Bars in PragueNewest Review: ... perspectives, or to just get drunk, is a frequently-indulged pastime post-conference. Naturally, Prague is world-famous for its beer, and rightly so. Some of my favourites are the Irish theme bars off Wenceslas Square (which isn't a square, but there you go). Good food (a rarity in Prague in my opinion - Czech grub is too stodgy for me, I can feel my arteries hardening within a square mile of it) is available there, and a sort of Guinness stout that may or may not be passable, according to taste. Beware the sex bars in that area though, and the East European girls openly selling sex on the right-hand side going up Wenceslas. The Czech ... more |

I usually go to academic conferences in Prague, which can be quite dry and sober affairs at the best of times. However academics, like many other sectors, like to unwind after a hard days arguing and posing, so repairing to the bar to discuss the latest theoretical perspectives, or to just get drunk, is a frequently-indulged pastime post-conference. Naturally, Prague is world-famous for its beer, and rightly so. Some of my favourites are the Irish theme bars off Wenceslas Square (which isn't a square, but there you go). Wenceslas Square has a really good sports bar at the top of the square off to the right hand side. It used to be a proper sports bar called Jagr's owned by the Czech Republic's famous Ice Hockey player but it is now an Irish bar (although it's more or less exactly the same inside and is still mainly a sports bar.) This is the best place to go if there are any international football matches on but get there early to get good seats! Drinks in this bar are also fairly expensive. There are some other bars on ... What a top bar!. After visiting many bars in Prague, all of which were very good, we stumbled upon this one. It is very much the authentic Czech bar. Grab a table in the courtyard at the back and you are immediately transported back to medieval Prague! Order a beer ( or Pivo) and you are only given one choice, which is the superb beer which has been brewed at the pubs own micro-brewery on site since the fifteenth century! After a few of these you will probably need some food to soak up the booze, so fortunately you can get that here to. We had the Goulash type stuff that you seem to get everywhere in Prague, but this one was cooked in, yes you've guessed it, U ... Read the complete review

Prague is definately heading to be Europe's next metrolpolitan. A country in central Europe, an old communist regime, but growing in attraction. The reason for its popularity, I guess, is the inexpensive lifestyle and the beauty of its architecture and greenary. All come with a back side. The tourists are always there to invade every traditional bar or club. The tourists carrying around their Travellers guide, the Lonely Planet or whatever, leading them all to the same place. After three days in Prague of absolute hell when discovering that the only culture I bumped in to was either English, American, French or German, I was fed up. I thew away my ...
