The range of night entertainment in Turkey is very huge. There are so many places from traditional birahanes(pubs) to techno and nightclubs. I can say, Turkey's nightlife is gaining recognition as one of the best in Europe.

Firstly, I want to introduce the traditional type of night entertainment in Turkey.

Meyhanes (Taverns)

An authentic Turkish experience can be combined with a night drinking at one of Turkey's meyhanes or tavernas(tavern). They serve raki, beer and wine, along with a wide selection of mezes (starters), kebabs and fruits of the season. The Turkish drink their raki aside melon, Anatolian feta cheese and tasty starters. I think the richest side of the Turkish food is starters.

The favourite meyhanes in Istanbul are located in the Cicek Pasaji in Taksim, Beyoglu. It is such a lovely place. My friends and I generally go there when I am in Turkey. Generally at day time, we drink our beers aside fried kalamar and mussel. At night, generally we prefer having raki aside starters and kebab. In Cicek Pasaji, many meyhanes are interspersed with flower, fish and vegetable stalls. Additionally I would like to suggest you to see the famous street named Nevizade Street, which is full of meyhanes. It is our second address. It is located just behind Cicek Pasaji. There are so many tables in open air all over the street, You will enjoy singing along with the street musicians.

There is also popularity of Anatolian folk music or Saz bars in Turkey.

The most downmarket bars are rock bars, where you can buy unbelievable cheap. In these places, decoration is minimal, and heavy metal and 70s rock is the order of the day. These bars are popular among students in Turkey. I can guarantee that the atmosphere is very lively. The dress code for these bars is strictly grunge, with body piercing, heavy metal t-shirts, and long hair. The oldest and most famous one of these bars is Kemanci (violist)
, also now known as Eski Kemanci (The old violist). It is located in Siraselviler Street, Taksim, Istanbul.

There are lots of rock bars offering live music. Generally bands performing covers of classics from Pink Flyod, The Who, Led Zepplin or U2. Prices in Istanbul are usually very cheap compared with other European cities.

In Istanbul, the favourite bars are Kemanci, Hayal Kavhesi and Mojo Blues Bar. Although I used to go to these places, now I don’t prefer them as now I am tired of rock bars. But Mojo is still good. You can also try Roxy. But ANDON still remains as my favourite one. In there, different types of music are played. You can read my opinion about Andon under the category of Bars in Istanbul.

Additionally, Kusadasi is famous for its Bar Street. Also, as most of you know, Bodrum is known all over Europe, especially in England. Halikarnas is the best club in Turkey and one of the best in Europe, You will be amazed when you see the club. You should absolutely see this place.
Alternative music is widely available and popular in Turkey and there are lots of clubs catering for fans of underground, hardcore and so on.

In Istanbul, the top discos have summer locations along the Bosphorus, where you can enjoy the beautiful view while partying until the early hours. Pasha is the best club in Istanbul. It is really amazing but very posh. You will see the jet-society there. At weekends, admission is not free. And the club is very expensive. Levent and Etiler are also other centres of nightlife.

I am going to write more about night clubs and alternative places.

I hope you found my opinion useful

Thanks for reading

Meyhanes are not the idyllic experience he suggests. Many are extremely dirty, the staff are rude, and women are not welcolmed. In the 'turistic' (sic) meyhanes, women are welcolmed, and they are reasonably clean, but the chances are you will be ripped of BIG TIME. Beware the endless supply of small plates - each one will be charged for even if not ordered or eaten. The ubiquitous 'kuver' charge can come as a shock, whereby you are charged heftily for the privilege of a having a chair. In fact, as a resident of Istanbul for 5 years, the only ones I would recommend are Pano and Victor Levi, bith by the British Consulate off Istiklal in Taksim. Cheap, excellent food, very busy and generally rip off free.
