Advantages: Good range of live sport, comfortable, reasonable prices, great fry-up

Disadvantages: little bit out of the centre

Billy's Bones just around the corner from the Schottenring U-Bahn and Tram stops (on the D line, Schlickgasse is an even closer stop) and is another typical Irish bar. There is a big screen which shows a lot of live sport, and passions can get quite heated, especially when it comes to soccer. There is also a smaller screen and often if there is football on one screen they'll put rugby on the smaller screen. There is a fair amount of seating space, and a good selection of newspapers makes Billy's Bones quite a good pub to go to to chill over a drink and a read of the newspaper.

Outside the terrace which is open in the summer is fairly quiet, and open until 11pm and it is a quiet and comfortable place to sit. The beer is reasonably priced, although as with everywhere their is premium on Guinness, and the food is reasonable, from Chicken Salads to plates of chips (big thick cut ones just like in Britain!). Another very popular culinary choice are Worcestershire Sauce crisps, imported from Britain, and there are not many bars in Vienna that can claim to offer them.

The barstaff are all pretty friendly and the place is very comfortable, although at the end of the day it is just another Irish Bar, and Vienna has got some in slightly more central locations.

UPDATE 17/12/00

I have just been in for an Irish Fry-up - heavily recommendable, as for a mere ATS80 (Ģ3.70) you get a plate of sausages, black pudding, white pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, toast, and bacon. It really hits the spot for me as an expat who is misses his fry-up.

For details of their football on Sky, check out the website. They have a great deal on, and it is easy to spend a long cold afternoon/evening there!

steveymacca - you been to this pub or what? Well I think itīs a good op anyway sweetheart, and I plan on going next weekend seeing as I live in Vienna and all.... and havenīt been to this bar but have friends that do, and they all agree with you. I find all the Irish pubs a nice change as one can feel a little homesick sometimes! *sniff!* Shebeens is good for an English fry up too but it is not that easy to find - in the 7th somewhere I think.....somewhere near Zieglergasse...
Ahhh worcester sauce flavour crisps........

Just a tip which I find useful...To hlp you get to your 10 premier opinions, how about choosing a subject which you know a lot about, such as a favourite computer game or TV show, and put a lot of effort into it. This often works for me! Ok, just a thought...
