This is more of a definite recommendation rather than a full-on, in-depth review of what is essentially just a bar in the Australian outback.

Most people end up in Alice Springs as a stop over on their way to Uluru (or a stop over on their way back) and you wouldn't generally spend more than a couple of nights in the town. The biggest highlight has got to be Bojangles Saloon. If you want a proper Australian experience and you've seen the old Fosters adverts and seen the Crocodile Dundee films then you won't be disappointed with Bojangles.

Once you get past the life size replica of Ned Kelly, you enter through the swinging saloon doors and stumble into a HUGE bowl of monkey nuts that people help themselves too. The shells are then discarded and scattered around the whole bar, which makes a nice crunching sound every time someone moves! Photos, memorabilia and various artifacts line the walls and will give you plenty to look at if the wildlife doesn't do anything for you! The bar has a resident python and also the locals like to bring in some of their unusual pets such as lizards, snakes and other reptiles. You can meet all sorts of people in there as it is a place that attracts the tourists but is still very much a local's bar. We met a few miners who had come back to Alice for the weekend and they were showing off some gold that they had in their pockets.

If you need any more entertaining while you are in there, then there are the live bands that play and broadcasted live through the World Wide Web and via satellite.

Depending on the time of day you go in, it can be a little intimidating as the locals all turn round and check who has walked in! Embrace it, walk straight to the bar and order a schooner or two and you'll have a blast. Its recently been voted 'Best Bar' in the Northern Territory, via one of the backpackers free magazines.

It also does food and if you like meat then you will like the food here! Try camel, crocodile, kangaroo (recommended), emu and barramundi. It also does light snacks and vegetarian food so there is something for everyone.

Check out their website where you can see some pictures of it and find out more http://www.bossaloon.com.au/.

We ended up going there due to a recommendation from someone we met in the hostel we were staying in. So, I now try to pass that favour on by recommending this to anyone who goes to Australia. It is chance meetings like the one we had in the hostel that gives people experiences that they would otherwise miss out on.

If you are going to go to Australia then the chances are that you will go to Uluru (Ayres Rock). In which case it is almost inevitable that you will end up in Alice Springs. It is the most logical place to stop for the night due to the distances between places the lack of towns to actually stop in. Alice Springs is 440km east of Uluru which is about 5 and a half hours driving.

Summary: For a real Australian bar experience then this place is the best.
