Advantages: Cheap and filling baguettes

Disadvantages: Terrace is next to a massive main road, Can be difficult to find a table

Café Blau Stern is located just on the corner by Nußdorfer Straße Underground station (U6) and on the 37/38 tram routes (they run into the University area and out to Grinzing - a great place for going for an afternoon out of town). Being in a studenty part of town it is very busy during term time, and it can be hard to get a table at about 1pm. Its proximity to Vienna's Wirtschaftsuniversität (WU), whose students are traditionally regarded as very snooty and pretentious, although with plenty of money, makes Blaustern a place to be seen for some, although in summer it can be very pleasant for a change of scene, before heading off for a spot of shopping in the Millennium City shopping complex.

The menu is varied, from very reasonable pasta dishes (the tagliatelle with salmon and mushrooms is a mere 77ATS (GBP 3.75) and there is a selection of hot and cold snacks, with the baguettes being both reasonable in terms of price, and filling. There is a wide selection of salads as well and there is a good selection for vegetarians, something that is not always the norm in Vienna.

The coffee is fairly reasonably priced and they do a wide range of reasonably priced alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. service is usually very good, and the waiting staff are all very helpful and cheerful.

There is a terrace outside, although I would not recommend it, as it is bang smack on the edge of Vienna's Gürtel - an arterial road, which is invariably busy, and with large numbers of lorries zooming past the air pollution is pretty bad, so if you want to sit outside, bear this in mind.

The place is fairly throbbing, with a mixture of students and young to young at heart people and the music is not too intrusive, which always helps. A light lunch for two including coffee and drinks is usually about GBP 12.50 or ATS 260 and the menu is so varied that you will have difficulty ever getting through the entire card.
