On the left there is Matrix Internet Cafe, a place which is normally used by a steady mixture of traveller's, journalists and of course the mainstay of any Egyptian internet cafe.. young Egyptian men playing computer games! The coffee shop outside is indeed part of the famous "After Eight" pub/club/cafe, here you'll meet an array of characters and foreigners too. If you hang around for a while, you'll undoubtedly be asked probably by a guy called Sadani if you want to star in one of the many Egyptian movies.... more |

Checking internet is not really something you have to worry about in Cairo, there are an endless amount of Internet Cafe's, so many in fact that the problem can be which one to choose rather than actually looking for one. The area from Midan Tahrir square down Talaat Harb street to Talaat Harb square is littered with them. They vary in price and quality and unless you are in a real rush, I recommend walking just a little further. Take a left down Mahmoud Bassiouni street and opposite the Dahab hotel you will see a little passageway with a strong smell of sheesha and coffee comng from it. This is the place you want to be.
