Crabby Jacks Restaurant (Guernsey)
Advantages: children are welcome
Crabby Jacks is a lovely family restaurant right opposite Vazon beach. Because of this it is always busy in the Summer. Many families go for lunch or an evening meal after spending a day in the sun with the children. It is a great way to end a family day out.
The food is always served quickly and you can either eat in with the restaurant or takeaway which has a different menu. The takeaways menu has a large variety, I have never had a takeaway from here, I always use the restaurant. Some things available to order are pasta dishes, steak and other meat dishes, stuffed mushroom, pizza, soup, burgers. Unfortunately on the takeaway menu there is no deserts, that's the best bit!
The restaurant serves starters, mains and deserts which includes steaks, pizzas, fish, garlic bread, chips, nachos, salads, curries, anything you could ever want. I usually have a Margarita pizza, which like all their dishes is homemade. It tastes delicious and I have never had any problems with their food.
My favorite part of the meal, the desert, includes brownies, ice cream, apple pie, fruit. I like the warm chocolate brownies best with runny chocolate sauce drizzled all over the top, yum yum.
Most of the dishes cost between £7 and £10 which is quite reasonable for what you get.
Crabby Jacks is another one of the few restaurants on the island that welcome children. The children's menu includes starters, mains and deserts like the rest of the menus. This is nice that children can have starters from their own menu as well. These include melon, tomato soup, bacon and cheese potato skin and prawn cocktail for £2.95 each. The mains are chicken bites, hot dog, bolognaise, fish and pizza (with a choice of toppings), these are £4.50 each. There is only one desert which is ice cream and a chocolate flake (£2.25) but they could always choose of the adult menu.
Indoors are plenty of seating for tables of two to ten but it can be busy during school holidays and the summer. Outside are some tables for anyone who likes to sit in the sun and watch the sea. Personally I prefer to eat indoors as I don't like the insects flying around when I am eating.
One thing I did used to like about the outdoors is the play area. As it is outdoors it can only be used in dry weather but it is still nice to have. It used to be a swing and a climbing frame but last year they knocked it down and started all over again. The space is now used a lot better so more fits into the area. The floor is made of a soft tarmac looking type floor and has a large crab picture (this is Crabby Jack). Not only does it look nice but it is a soft safe landing if children fell. There is a climbing frame for younger children with a slide, steps, a tunnel and some poles. This is lovely and brightly coloured in red, blue, green and yellow. The other climbing frame for older children has monkey bars and other bars everywhere for swinging off which children love to do (just like little monkeys!) Some smaller things outside are a dolphin shaped seesaw for one, a skateboard on springs for balancing and a pirate ship. I love how the sea theme fits in with the rest of the restaurant. This area is safely enclosed so children can be left alone in it and won't be able to escape.
Although this restaurant is right opposite the beach it is very clean and you hardly ever see sand inside as it is cleaned up. The toilets and tables are always hygenic which is just what you expect.
There are no stairs so it can be accessed by wheelchair users or push chairs and there is a large car park outside.
Crabby Jacks is open from 12 noon until late every day and is a great restaurant for everyone, whatever age.
Summary: great for families
