Advantages: nice atmosphere, friendly local types, delicious cocktails at good prices, volume is about right.

Disadvantages: stuffy, unpleasant decor, plays the same contemporary tracks, filthy toilets.

German for Strawberry, "Erdbeer" is a relatively popular Berlin Electro-bar at Linienstraße 223 10119 Mitte, Berlin, Germany. Quiet and refined during the day, Erdbeer offers a wide range of exotic drinks and delicious cocktails all the time at the reasonable price of 8 Euros a pop, despite not being the best price in the area, it's perfectly adequate and not to be sniffed at.

Its a pretty small place with no Biergarten or upstairs area, so the thick atmosphere is pretty fixed - kitsch furniture, sticky floor, stuffy and with horribly unclean, purely functional small toilets. Nonetheless, its a nice place to go for one or two drinks or just to start off your night, although the camp red leather couches coupled with the grimy sticky floor and wood panelling just make it seem a little scruffy overall.

The unique cocktail menus are all handwritten which is a pretty nice touch, and makes the place seem friendly. The people there are always very nice (although often don't speak English) and are always willing to help out if you put the effort in with the Lingo.

The dance floor is relatively small but pretty crowded. You'll meet some nice, if a little overdressed natives here with a genuine interest in the music. Like I say, its a good place to start an evening, mainly because its more than loud enough to rock out in, but not too loud that you can't talk to people.

The main problem I had was that the bloke DJing, a 50-something tired old Electro queen, seemed to play the same old contemporary tracks over and over again; Digitalism, MGMT, The Rapture, Hadouken, IMS and Soul Sonic Force etc; when it would have been much nicer to see some more classic stuff, I'm talking Kraftwerk, Human League, Hypnosis amd Newcleus.

Its a great location, all thing considered, with just a 5 minute coach journey to the visceral Berlin electro clubs you really want to be.

Summary: A non-touristy low-key electro bar with plenty of cool characters. Start your night off here!
