Disadvantages: Staff can be grouchy.

I can't believe Dooyoo have this as a reviewable product! But I can understand why this will be the first review. If you've been - let everyone know what you think!

Karstadt is the largest department store and mail-order company in Europe, and opperates 90 department stores, and 32 sportswear stores (KarstadtSport) in Germany. It employs 32,000 staff and has controll of 38 per cent of the German department store business.

If you were to compare it to a British Store, I would say it is similar to John Lewis, albeit slightly lessed polished. Being a popular shopping destination for Germans and international visitors alike, many customers will also frequent the "Karstadt Cafeteria" which from my experience is usually on the top floor of the store. I have visited Karstadt department stores in Kiel, Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and Cologne.

I have found the quality of the cafeteria to vary depending on location. Like the Ikea restaurant, you are required to collect a tray and either collect cold plates and drinks from the refridgerated cabinets, or go to various kiosks for a broad range of hot German and international cuisine. Alcoholic drinks are also available. You then pay at the till at the end. From experience, the person at the checkout is usually pretty grumpy and sour-faced. You have been warned.

In Germany, the concept of takeaway coffee and places where you "Pay, drink and go" has not really taken off, so if you are shopping and want a quick drink, I would recommend this as most places are table service.

The prices are also pretty reasonable and the seating area is comfortable. In some locations you can sit outside and there are sunloungers for warmer weather. Indoors there is always regular seating and sometimes sofas and other comfy seating. In the KarstadtSport Cafeteria in Hamburg, they even have a tiered eating arena infront of a screen where you can watch live sporting events! Toilets are also available, but remember to tip the Klofrau if you are impressed with the cleanliness (usually spotless).

Summary: Worth popping by after a long day's shopping.
