Advantages: Alternative music, a good crowd, great booze

Disadvantages: Does get a bit packed and closes early in the week

Orange Bar in Riga is a mainstay of the nightlife for young Latvians, exchange students and occasionally visitors to the Youth Hostels. The thing I love about Riga is that all of the pubs and clubs are generally within walking distance of each other. Orange Bar is indeed a very bright orange colour inside, which makes you feel like you've been tangoed! It can be found through a little alleyway and you may need to ask a local where it is.

Too many of Riga's clubs cater to the thump thump Scooter stiletto brigade and Orange Bar is a place that is more geared to the alternative scene, they usually play a mixture of alternative and dance on the weekends and more likely than not rock during the week. There's always fun to be had in this place and the dance floor is normally packed, I've been there numerous times and can still never remember where the toilet is, clearly the proof of a good time!

Drink and food prices have gone up considerably over the last 2 years in Latvia so you may expect to pay as much as 2 lats (2.10) for a beer. Definitely worth having will be the Riga Black Balsams, very tasty indeed! Most of the exchange students seem to be Spanish for some reason and they are normally heaps of fun.

The place gets easily crowded and people regularly drink just oustside the club because of this.

You won't need to get public transport there, it's bang in the old city.
