Advantages: Quiet and friendly

Disadvantages: In East Village rather than central Manhattan

If you want a quieter drink in New York then this is the place to go. It is an Irish bar, actually run by a real Irish man, in East Village.

The bar is like any O'Neills you have even been to in England. Spit and sawdust with lots of wood. There are smoking and non-smoking sections and it is fairly large inside.

The menu is very basic and cheap but the portions are huge and the food is good value. We ate a mixyure of chicken wings, fries, burgers, steaks and sandwiches and they were all great quality.

If you buy bottled beer or imported beer (like Heineken or Stella Artois) then expect to be charged a fortune. Cheap beer comes in pitchers at $7 per 4 pints. It is usually Miller and because of the preservatioves used in Miller is likely to give you an incredible hang over.

There are also tables and benches outside O'Ryans and in the evening it is great to sit outside and watch the people go by.

Nice, safe atmosphere in here. A great bar for a quieter night or for the less adventurous of us.
