Cafe` Tortoni ... is the oldest and most elegant cafe in Buenos Aires, it prides itself on its history and in maintaining its standards. The cafe was built in 1858 and is set on the historic Avendida de Mayo, one of the most important streets in the country. When you see the outsides of the cafe, there is a doorman which is unlike any but the poshest hotels in the city, you enter and its like a parisian cafe in your mind, waiters dressed in full penguin suit with the aprons and a tray on one hand guide you to a table, thankfully the menus are in Spanish and English, you can visit for a full meal, enjoying steak, empanadas and the best of Argentine cuisine, have a nice glass of Malbe... XOKAWA The mission, and excuse the paraphrasing and/or poetic license of this translation, is to provid... Read the full review: A New Kind of Chocolate Bar by zoe_page_1 |

Cafe` Tortoni ... along the Avenida de Mayo ( May Avenue), you can find this lovely and typically argentinian cafe. It's the tango bar for excellence in Buenos Aires. Their walls are decorated with photographs of argentinians famous artists, and their avant guard pioneers, they used to joined in their basement to talk about art, book, politics and their favourite kind of music: tango. You can also take a photograph near Carlos Gardel statue, the most famous argentinian tango singer So if you go to Buenos Aires you must visit the Cafe Tortoni, and while you are there try the "picada" a combination of argentinian salami, ham, cheese, olives and some more surprises! ...
