Advantages: Nice romantic place close to the centre

Disadvantages: Bit quiet

Winokracja is a small wine bar/cafe located just off the centre of Warsaw in the Muranow region. Located close to several important Jewish monuments, it is mostly in a residential area and does not really get frequented by the passing tourist trade.

Originally just a wine shop that was a bit too hidden and didn't have enough power to compete with nearby 24hr alcohol shops serving cheap plonk or a good enough location (i.e. a shopping mall) to get enough customers, it has evolved.

It still sells wine but it has also set out a few tables generally in pairs of two with candles and other nice touches to make it look romantic. During hot days there are also tables outside where you can drink wine before choosing a bottle to buy or just simply to have some there and then. The place also serves ice cream and a range of tea and coffee, it makes a nice change but is often very quiet and therefore may well be a bit lacking in atmosphere, although they do play quiet songs inside - usually jazz.

The address of Winokracja is Ul. Karmelicka 19 and it is easily reached by taking trams 16, 17, 19 and 33 from Dworzec Centralny (Central Station) in the direction of Zoliborz until the tram stop Anieliwicza, then walking a few meters to the left until you reach the Anieliwicza/Karmelicka crossing, alternatively you can take 18, 19, 35, 36 from anywhere in the centre in the direction of Huta and get off at Muranow. Then walk up Ul. Anieliwicza until you get to the aforementioned cross roads.

Prices aren't particularly cheap for wine but there a bit better than you'll get in non-wine designated pubs and bars.

Summary: One of many options!
