The Body Shop Dewberry Bath and Shower Gel
by MrsD76
~~~~~~~
BS classics
~~~~~~~
I discovered this for half price in the Body Shop recently and picked up a bottle for purely nostalgic reasons! In my teens I used to drown myself in Dewberry perfume from the Body Shop, and having a smell of this took me back to those days - and my poor family choking on the smell as I used to ... apply it very liberally!
I believe the Body Shop stopped making this for years but brought it back along with some other classic products from the 80s, and you can find these online on the Body Shop website in a section called "Anita's favourites" named after the Body Shop's late founder Anita Roddick. Anyone else remember Ice Blue Shampoo and Fuzzy Peach??? There is also a dewberry body lotion available.

Fruity fragrance
~~~~~~~~~~~
This particular product comes in a 250ml bottle and retails at £4 - although currently it's on sale on the website for £3 (and I bought it for £2). It's in classic BS packaging - a very simple plastic bottle with a green label. It's unmistakeably a BS product. Inside you can see the purple coloured shower gel.
The scent of this will be familiar to anyone who was also a dewberry fan back in the day! It is very fruity but has a slight grassiness to it I think - it is quite a sweet fragrance and really won't be to everyone's taste. It is similar, I think, to Body Shop passionfruit products so if you are fan of those then this will be a good choice for you!
Lovely lather
~~~~~~~~~
As a shower gel this is really good. I apply it using a shower puff and a little squirt goes a long way! It lathers up really nicely and the scent is quite strong but without being overpowering. After use, skin feels really clean, and the scent lingers very slightly too.

Why three stars?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do, however, have two problems with this product. This first is that I think £4 is way too much for a bottle of shower gel - I can go to any supermarket and spend about a quid on a perfectly decent shower product so I don't think the full price of this can really be justified.
Secondly, time has obviously changed my taste in scents as I must admit I am not as mad on this fragrance as I used to be! Although it is quite nice, it is definitely not up there with my favourite fruity scents - there is something about this one that I just don't really like, and beyond the nostalgic effect I have to say I am not crazy about it. So this isn't one I'll be buying again. Read the complete review |
Soap & Glory Mini Flake Away Spa Body Polish
by sammy00
One of my staple beauty products is the Soap and Glory Flake Away. I have found it helps my bumpy dry skin on my legs and arms and really does work wonders. When I was stocking up on essentials for my holiday I came across the Mini Tub in Boots. I can't believe I had never seen this before and had even been contemplating buying a small ... tub just to be able to take some Flake Away with me. The Full size tub is a whacking 300 ml so there's no chance of that getting in my case!
The Mini Flake Away costs around £2.50 from Boots and for this you get a cut little 50ml pot. The packaging is in the signature Soap and Glory pink and simply states Flake Away on the side and the Soap and Glory logo on the lid. The mini tub is quite sturdy plastic with a screw on lid. Despite the tub only holding 50 ml it's filled to the brim of the lovely scrub. The Soap and Glory Flake Away, claims to be "a Superhero strength skin smoothing body polish...(that will) transform your scaly legs from reptilian to radiant'! It contains Sea Salt and Sugar to polish your skin but adds in some Shea Butter and Almond Oil.
To use you are told to apply a handful to damp skin and massage in circular motions until the majority of grains have dissolved. You do need to use a good handful as I found you need a good amount to really scrub the legs. The body polish it very thick and grainy and can feel a little too rough when you're applying it, but the result is well worth it. It maintains its consistency while you are scrubbing and then starts to dissolve slowly.
I do love the Flake Away and have found it to work wonders on my bumpy and dry skin. If you combine it with a nice moisturiser your scaly legs will be transformed before you can blink! I love the travel size pot as it means I can take my favourite product with me on holiday and it won't take up any rooms in my case. I have found that the Flake Away is a good way to exfoliate your skin while you tan making the tan look more even and last longer. For £2.50 you do get a great deal in the small 50 ml tub and this will easily last you your two weeks holiday even if used every day. The strength of the tub also means that you could refill it next year from your standard sized pot making it even more of a bargain!
If you love the Soap and Glory Flake Away - be sure to get a mini tub for your holidays this year! Read the complete review |
Forever Living Aloe Liquid Soap
by MsTricia
Whenever I get stressed my eczema tends to flare up spontaneously, often on different parts of my body. Not too long ago I had a rash on my hands and was looking for a handwash to sit in my bathroom that wouldn't irritate my skin as much and would not make me want to itch more and also not cause my rash to flare up worse. My mum ... recommended this aloe liquid soap, although I have to say she is slightly biased as she has a friend who works for the brand as a distributor and so is always going to say good things about it.
It comes in a white pump with a green banner across the bottom containing about 473ml of liquid. When dispensed it is a clear, thick liquid almost with a silky silverish complexion. I only use a small amount to my wet palms and lather as necessary and I find it leaves my hand with a nice fragrant smell, and not dry at all. It definitely has a soft and gentle formula and I was impressed to find it didn't irritate my eczema at all! It's description is a hand and face soap, however I must admit I didn't use it on my face at all (as I am VERY fussy about what I use on my face) so I can't comment on it as a face wash. It does say no tears formula, but I can't vouch for whether this is true or not but it definitely didn't appear to have any harsh chemicals which would irritate my face.
The pump costs around £10 from a forever living distributor which is annoying as not many people are actually aware of this brand as they seem to rely on a word of mouth type of advertising which obviously cuts costs. To be honest, £10 is extremely steep for a hand wash! My mum gave me this one for free, and it did last quite a while - probably around 6 months - but I would presume if one used it as a face wash too it wouldn't last as long. In fairness, it is cheaper than some other premium brands out there (cough cough Molton Brown) and has a lot better qualities in terms of being a good handwash and suitable for those of us with sensitive skin, however for £10 I haven't re-purchased and would probably take a lot of persuading to do so! My eczema is cleared at the moment, so if in the event it returned it would definitely be an option though. Read the complete review |
