Cussons Imperial Leather
by jmurray01
Hello again!
Today I'll be reviewing what is in my opinion the best soap money can buy!
Yes, Imperial Leather.
I'm sure everybody has heard that famous name from somewhere; be it a television advert, seeing the soap in a shop or going to somebody's house who has a bar in their bathroom and if you've ever ... used it - you'll know it is truly divine.
I've been using Imperial Leather bars of soap for years and love everything about them. From the cardboard box each bar comes in to the colour and silky texture to the traditional sticker on the top.
These days the most common variation of Imperial Leather is slightly larger than the (now branded) "Classic" bars and each bar comes in a clear film wrapping instead of a cardboard box but nevertheless, whatever style you go for - the quality is there 110%.
I used to buy the "modern" bars from Lidl at about £2 (or so I recall) for 6 but recently discovered that my local Pound Shop sells the "Classic" ones in a pack of 4 for, well, £1!
I grabbed them and am very pleased but that has no influence on the review since the soap is the same whatever "style" you buy.
Imperial Leather comes in a rectangular bar with rigid corners and is a nice traditional and classy shape.
The colour is a creamy white and has a gold and red sticker on the top (stating "Cussons Imperial Leather") and an embossed "Imperial Leather" logo on the bottom.
Having the rigid edges I find it is very easy to grip with wet hands and stop it from sliding out of your hands and into the water which is terribly inconvenient as you can never find it again beneath all the bubbles.
The soap has a lovely fresh smell to it which I always associate with cleanliness and it has a great lather to it.
I find a bar of soap lasts around 2 weeks which takes into account two people having about 4-5 baths a week (not together I hasten to add!) which makes for a very long lasting soap.
Back in the 50s and 60s Imperial Leather was one of those soap bars which was at the higher end of the price range (and rightly so too), but these days with all the competition the price has reduced to match the competitors so there really is no reason not to indulge yourself in a little leather at bath time!
As much as I like my Yardley soap nothing will take Imperial Leather's place at the bottom of my bath tub.
Until next time - goodbye! Read the complete review |

Imperial Leather Bewitching Shower Cream
by xxfoxyredxx
Whilst preparing to go to my mums for Christmas I felt the need to stock up on a few new toiletries. My mum and stepdads house has a shower which I don't in my home so I grabbed a couple of bottles of showers gels and shower creams and the likes, spotted this one in my local Poundland store costing of course just a pound and I liked the ... look of the bottle and what it is was called and that's basically why I bought it!
The packaging of this is rather nice and looks really good quality. The bottle is see through plastic and slightly curvy indesign though stands up well and it has a dark purple flip top lid to the top of it then on the front of it we are told that it is Imperial Leather 'Limited Editions', Bewitching 'Blackberry Blossom & Wild Fig' Shower creme and there is a metallic silver coloured pattern on it too then on the back of the bottle other information listed includes being told a bit about the product, the ingredients and size is stated (which is 250ml) and contact details for the manufacturer are listed. I like being able to see the shimmery dark purple gel like shower creme though the bottle as well so I know when I need to buy another bottle...whether it be this or something else of course.
Using It:
The shimmery, transparent liquid is very gel like, not a thin one but not too thick and a little of this goes a very long way indeed. The fragrance of this is a real winner for me, totally feminine and unusual and I have to admit...I love it! Its sort of fruity and really well blended with the fig and blackberry smell but soft as well with a gentle but natural sweetness and not overly or in your face fruit fragranced due to a light floral sort of fragrance to it as well. Although shimmery as well this doesn't seem to contain glitter which personally I'm thankful for. Who wants that on their skin or all over the shower anyway! I can shave my bits and bobs in the shower with this with ease as well! Its all round great this one!
It lathers up into a really great, thick white lather, feels smooth on my skin in use and leaves me feeling really clean and very gently but not overly so moisturised. The scent lingers on my skin all day long as well.
This does everything I wanted to and more as its really kind to my skin and so this gets a huge thumbs up from me. Even my mum tried this one out when she had a shower and commented on how nice it was to use and she loved the smell so yep one I shall certainly buy in the future whether I find it on offer or not or have to pay its usual £2.00 (ish) price tag in places like Boots and all other good supermarkets and chemists! Imperial Leather Sublime Pomegranate Shower Cream
by PerfectPeaches
Having a shower at both the beginning and end of the day is something I am quite religious about. I love the feeling of being clean and therefore I tend to shower twice a day. However, on my evening, just before bed shower (I don't always have the time for a relaxing soak in the bath!) I don't want a shower gel that is going to ... revitalise my senses, instead I want one that is warming and relaxing enabling me to drift off to the land of nod.
Fortunately there are plenty of brands out there which create gorgeous shower gels/creams and one of my favourite brands is Imperial Leather. Generally their products are on offer so I tend to stock up with a few varieties. One of my recent additions is the Imperial Leather Sublime shower cream which is a limited edition but having a hunt around it is no longer available or at least being produced by Imperial Leather. However, I bought mine from B&M so I guess discount stores would be the best place to buy it.
== Sublime ==
Imperial Leather Sublime Shower Cream is as said above a limited edition product and has been specifically formulated to be richly moisturising. The main three ingredients used are star flower which is known for its moisturising properties and pomegrantate which is well known for helping to keep the skin soft and supple and lastly jojoba is of course well known for it's moisturising properties.
According to Imperial Leather:
"Prepare for a truly pampering experience. Sublime, combines beautiful fragrances, with our sumptuously smooth moisturising shower cream for the ultimate luxurious experience. Our rich and decadent formulation will leave your skin feeling radiant with a renewed sense of wellbeing."
== Packaging ==
The shower cream comes in the standard Imperial Leather slightly curved plastic bottle only difference being the colour of the shower cream. On the front is the Imperial Leather logo together with the product name and key ingredients. On the back of the bottle there is information about the product together with the usual information such as the extensive ingredients list and contact information.
== In Use ==
The shower cream itself is a gorgeous red colour which has a slight pink hue to it. Whatever the exact shade it is gorgeous and quite festive for this time of year! If you look closely you can see tiny little black seeds which I'm guess are from the star flower which add a nice exfoliating touch to the shower cream and ideal for me as someone who can suffer with dry skin in the winter.
The one thing I noticed straight away when using this in the shower was the gorgeous fragrance. It definitely has notes of pomegranates which almost gives it a slight sharp aroma but at the same time it also has an incredibly warming fragrance. It is quite unusual but at the same time quite irresistible! The shower cream has a lovely consistency which is of course a gorgeous colour with a metallic hue to it, quite luxurious!
The shower cream lathers up easily and evolves into a rich white lather which is incredibly soft to the touch but what I did notice was that the little black seeds which you can see in the bottle have completely disappeared when the shower cream lathers up and you definitely can't feel them when washing which is a bit of a shame although not a major problem for me.
The shower cream's gorgeous fragrance does remain whilst showering which is great and although it is very noticeable it isn't overpowering. After showering my skin doesn't exactly feel moisturised and it does require a body lotion but the same divine scent is still very noticeable which is of course nice. I have been using this shower cream for a few weeks now and although my skin isn't showing signs of being completely moisturised it does look healthy but considering it has three well known ingredients for moisturisation it doesn't really do them justice.
== Overall ==
This is a decent shower cream, it manages to envelope you in a rich, warming yet quite sharp fragrance which for me is ideal for a night time shower as it is incredibly relaxing. As for the moisturising side of things, it hasn't done wonders but my skin hasn't been irritated by such a perfumed product simply because it has a skin friendly pH.
Would I recommend it for moisturising properties? Well no, not really as it hasn't done much for my skin. However, for its gorgeous relaxing fragrance then this is gorgeous and a perfectly usable shower cream just doesn't quite live up to it's description so I can only give it 4 stars.
