Lynx Dark Temptation Shower Gel
by paulshorse
BACKGROUND TO USING THE PRODUCT:-
I do like Lynx products - some people like Yankee Candles... I like Lynx (OK, I admit that I do like Yankee Candles too). I don't know what it is about Yankee Candles, but I go into a store that sells them and I have to pick them up and smell them. I can't say that I have the urge to do the ... same thing when I go into a store selling Lynx products, but I do like the different fragrances. With that in mind, when Wilkinsons were selling Lynx shampoo at 99p a bottle last year, I succumbed to temptation and bought a load of them (well shower gel always gets used).
DESIGN AND PACKAGING:-
The one that I am currently using is Dark Temptation. All the shower gels come in a 250ml size (although you can get some in a larger 400ml bottle). The containers are all tall and rectangular shaped with a grey plastic button on the top that you depress to enable you to squeeze the gel out. The Dark Temptation bottle is black with brown swirls on the front with the Lynx brand name in gold and white lettering and has ridges on the side to enable a firm grip of the bottle when you're in the shower. On the reverse of the bottle is the usual list of ingredients together with contact details for Unilever who make the brand. You are also told that this shower gel will 'provoke irresistible attraction' and that it has 'a seductive and magnetic scent'. It urges you to 'indulge your fantasies' and by way of illustration shows an image of a man showering with the gel and an arrow pointing to a further image of him with three women, underneath which it says 'unlimited female attention'. I cannot claim that this shower gel is effective in that respect and, to be honest, I find such marketing to be dubious to say the least.
MY EXPERIENCE USING THE PRODUCT:-
So, given the fact that I'm unlikely to attract hoards of women by just showering with this gel, what do I think of it? Well, firstly it does produce a nice lather. It's easy to squeeze out of the bottle - the gel is reasonably thick but don't squeeze too hard because it does come out quite quickly, especially when the bottle's new. It foams nicely, you don't need a lot for good body coverage and it rinses off easily. It does leave me feeling clean all over and my skin quite soft, although I wouldn't say that it's any softer than with other brands of shower gel. In keeping with the brown coloured swirls on the front of the bottle, the gel is a light brown in colour. The best thing for me though is the fragrance. The list of ingredients shows that it contains, amongst other things, caramel. I can definitely say that after showering, my body does smell of a kind of caramel/chocolate fragrance. It's not a sickly sweet smell though - mixed in is a spicy undertone, almost peppery. And the smell lasts a long time - I showered an hour and a half ago and the fragrance is still quite strong.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY:-
Lynx shower gels can be bought in most supermarkets, pharmacies and some budget stores such as Wilkinsons. The price is usually around £2.40 for the 250ml size (in the region of £3 for the larger 400ml bottle) but often you can find it on offer. Sainsburys are currently selling the 250ml bottle for £1.20 and the larger one for £2.00, so at that price it's definitely worth stocking up.
CONCLUSION:-
I love this shower gel - mainly because of the fragrance and the fact that it leaves me feeling fresh and clean (which, after all, is the purpose of shower gel). The caramel/chocolate perfume may not be to everyone's taste, but it certainly is different and long lasting. Whether this would help you to fulfill your fantasies is debatable, but nevertheless it gets a 5 star rating from me. Read the complete review |
