Waitrose Essentials Ginger Bath Creme
by Machair1 Recently I came across a bath product purely by chance. I occasionally have a delivery from Waitrose who now offer this service. Our local store is actually several miles away, is very popular, and is difficult to find a parking space at peak times, so home delivery is very convenient. In addition to this they deliver free now as long as ... you order more than £50 in value, which makes them very competitive over other online supermarket retailers. Many people still see Waitrose as a luxury supermarket, and in many ways it is. They carry ranges of foods which are beyond the budgets of many people, including myself. However the savvy shopper can peruse the offers, and take advantage of their "Essential" range, which is a recently launched collection of everyday items at brilliant prices. I find that if I am selective, even having everything delivered, I can on many occasions undercut the bill I would have had from all the major supermarkets. If you live in an area served by the delivery company Ocado, you can also purchase Waitrose items for home delivery, though you may have to pay for all except the most anti-social time slots. Within this "Essential" range are a collection of toiletries launched late last year. These are rivals for Tesco "Value" and other major supermarket budget buys. These include shampoos, shower gels, and soaps, as well as the bubble bath I am reviewing today. As I said earlier I came across this product by chance. An item I had requested on my on-line order was out of stock, which is a rare event I might add, and this ginger bath crème was substituted. I accepted the change and was delighted to try a product I was not familiar with, especially as the price was only 99p for 750mls. The bubble bath also has clementine in the title - the full description being Ginger Bath Crème with Clementine, and the bottle has an image of a clementine depicted on the front. The designs on the Essential ranges are simplistic and elegant, and do not reflect in any way their budget price tag. Indeed they look very pretty on my bathroom shelf, which is a great attribute in my opinion. So I added the bath foam to the water and was rewarded with lovely bubbles, copious in quantity, and with a gorgeous aroma of freshly grated ginger. It is a scent which I would say is probably the most unusual bath treat I have ever used, but it is so luxurious. You can't discern any clementine at all- it is simply like stepping into a bath of ginger, and as ginger is renowned for its warming properties I feel this is the perfect bath treat for a cold winter night. In a way the clementine addition, though not discernable, adds to the festive appeal of this product making it one to look out for next December. That said it is far too good to lock away until then, I love it and use it regularly now. I have a tendency to suffer with dry skin, especially if I use cheap products in the bath, and many of these will irritate. This doesn't - it leaves skin moisturised and fragrant and I have very little, if any, need to use body lotion afterwards. There is a matching bar soap in the ginger range too and many other Essential products are available including chamomile, sea kelp, olive and jojoba bubble baths, all of which have matching shower gels. I can't fault this product, it is simply packaged, yet elegant. It is has a beautiful intense fragrance, produces millions of sweet scented bubbles which last, and it leaves skin moisturised and soft. The cream is thick and you don't need much as a little goes a long way,so it lasts for ages. For 99p it is an absolute bargain, and it illustrates the point that you don't always have to go to The Poundshop in search of toiletries, there are unexpected bargains lurking in the most unlikely places! Waitrose Umi Gift Box
by OhLala-17 At Christmas I received this lovely Umi Gift Box. It is a brand I have never heard of before and it looks fantastic! When I opened the paper the tallish brown and pink box caught my eye, it has a brilliant appearance to it and looks like a designer brand! The brown is a nice brown and goes really well with the ... bright pink stripe through the middle. The front of the box has a medium sized label saying 'Pampering gift box to indulge the body and ease the mind.' On the back is another sticky label telling you what is inside the box and the ingredients used. As I took the lid off, the inside was full of bright pink and white tissue paper. I then pulled out 3 Umi products. - Bath Sock - Body Wash - Hand Cream The body wash is in a 400ml tall, slim, see through plastic bottle. It has a brown sticky label matching the gift box which tells you what the product is. The Palm Milk & Acacia Honey Bath Soak is a light yellow colour and looks fairly relaxing. When I used the bath soak I opened the twist off lid and had a sniff. The scent this bath soak has is gorgeous! It's very hard to describe how it smells, it has a sort of light perfume smell to it. The scent reminds me of the brand Palmolive, the Naturals Honey & Moisturising Milk shower cream they make. It really does smell gorgeous and has to be one of the best smelling bath soaks I have used yet. As I ran my bath I poured a little bit of the product under the hot water tap. The substance of the soak looked soft and delicate if that makes sense and bubbles started to appear straight away. The bubbles looked lovely although a little bit thin, unlike other bubbles baths I have used which produce thick bubbles. When the bath was full the bubbles spread out well, and my bath was very relaxing! The bubbles lasted about 10-15 minutes and then started to go. When I had finished my bath after about 30 minutes the bubbles had left a slight bubbly film across the top of the water. I love this bubble bath and it does say on the directions to be generous when pouring it into the bath, which is probably why I don't get thick bubbles. There are quite a few ingredients which I don't feel need to be added into this review but there are some allergens. ALLERGENS CONTAINS: Cinnamal & Hexyl Cinnamal. Over All Bath Soak- 9/10! The Body Wash has to be my favourite product from the box. It is also in a 300ml tall, slim bottle, but the bottle is a pump action bottle. The label says Peach Kernel & Vanilla Exfoliating Body Wash. It is a light brown colour which doesn't look to brilliant with darker bits in which sort of look like glitter. When I first used the product it took a few pumps for the body wash to come out, now it is fine and I have no problem with the pump, it's very easy to use even with wet hands. The substance looks a bit thick and oily, when I pumped some onto my hand it did not feel how it looked! It's quite a runny substance and not at all oily. Again the body wash has a gorgeous fragrance just like the bath soak. It smells of vanilla, not strong but just right! The Peach Kernel is the exfoliant, when I rubbed the substance in my hands a bit I could barley feel it and thought that it wouldn't exfoliate my skin at all! I continued to use it and as I rubbed some into my arm it started to foam up. When I was rubbing the substance into my arm I could then feel the exfoliants working, but not as much as other exfoliating products I have used. When I had finished my bath I felt very clean, refreshed and relaxed. As I was drying my skin I noticed dead skin coming off, I then realised that the exfoliants had worked! As I've said this is my favourite product from the box! It not only foams up well and makes you feel lovely and clean it exfoliates very well too. I find not alot of the product is needed and a small amount about 2 pumps is enough for my stomach. There are also allergens in this product aswell. ALLERGENS CONTAINS: Butylmethylproplanol, Coumarin, Limonen & Linalool. Overall- 10 / 10!! The last product is the Hand Cream. The Hand Cream is in a 100ml silver, squeeze tube with a flip lid. Pomegranate & Acacia Honey Hand Cream For Soft & Strong Nails. The substance is white and runny. As I squeezed the tube I was surprise how runny the cream was. It doesn't bother me to much as only a very small amount is actually needed, so when the cream is squeezed into the palm of a hand it shouldn't run off. This hand cream doesn't fail when it comes to the fragrance. It has quite a strong smell which lasts on the hands well. Again the scent is quite hard to describe and as I have never smelt Pomegranate properly I can't compare it. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the smell, but once it was rubbed in fully on my hands the smell grew on me and now I love it. After application my hands feel very soft and smell great without any stickiness. I don't really use hand cream alot and currently have a very large bottle of Soap & Glory's hand food on the go so at the moment this Umi hand cream is taking a back seat. I can't comment fully if my nails have become stronger, but after I have used the cream they look healthier and feel good. The hand cream is a perfect size to put into a handbag though, and so this will be popped in my bag soon! There is no allergy advice on the tube. Overall 8/10! - Other Info - ___________ Umi make their products with natural ingredients and you are advised to keep the product out of direct sun light. Their products are also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Once opened both the bath soak & body wash can be used for 24 months and the hand cream 12 months. Also on the bath soak & body wash the bottle and caps are both recyclable! - Where To Get It & Price - _____________________ I searched endlessly for this product online! Whenever I typed Umi into google it came up with shoes. I first tried the Boots website as they stock a good range of professional brands but they didn't have it. It was only when I read the whole of the label on the back I saw it was from Waitrose / John Lewis. Waitrose supermarket was the last place I would have thought about buying a present from as it doesn't really spring to mind for that sort of thing. I then looked online and found out the gift box only cost a bargain of £5.00!!! Unfortunately I don't think it can be purchased all year round, only the christmas months of early november - late december. BUT, while looking online on the Waitrose website Umi do make single products. Face Wipes, Bar Soap and other bath soaks and body wash's. Prices ranging from £1.95 - around the £3 mark. - Overall - ________ I love this gift box and I am very happy with it! I think it's a fantastic presents for anybody and especially good if your on a tight budget as it looks like it costs more than £5. When I first opened it I thought it would be about £10/ £12 or more. All the products are lovely and do what they say on the bottle! 10/10 Product!! 5*'s - Highly Recommend! January 2010. Waitrose Lemon Blossom and Amber Bath Foam
by Machair1 I recently chose a bottle of Waitrose bubble bath to try for a change. I normally use either Badedas, or little pieces of Lush bubble slices, but for a change I thought that a more citrus based product would be good to try. Waitrose Lemon and Amber bubble bath is currently retailing for 98p for a large bottle if you purchase ... from the online retailer Ocado, who sell some Waitrose products at slighter cheaper prices that you may find in their high street stores. Having said that it is only 1p more at Waitrose, as this is part of their "Essential" range of products designed to keep shopping costs down. The bottle itself has a simple screw top and has a rather plain, but very tasteful, design on the front. This design has a lovely white close up image of a lemon blossom flower. For such a cheap product this is indeed a good attribute. To use the product you simple pour into running water. I was very impressed by the foaming aspect of this; it did indeed create a mountain of bubbles which were scented with a delicate citrus aroma. My husband and I have been doing some massive tidy up jobs over the last few weeks as we have tackled some of the debris from 2 girls at or recently finished university. This situation (using our house like a storage facility) has caused an avalanche of items which have no real home. This exhausting work has really made me love the bath even more, so I have been able to use all this bottle up quickly with no problem at all! I like this product, I don't love it. It is certainly very pleasant to use and it has a lovely lemon fragrance, but you can certainly feel the difference on your skin compared to the way it feels if you use more expensive products. With repeated uses over a short space of time, by that I mean daily, I have found my skin in much greater need of moisturiser after I have dried. I think these kinds of bath products are actually fine to use once in a while, and probably brilliant if your skin does not veer towards the dry side. For me though I think they lack nourishment when used too frequently. On the plus side I didn't suffer any reaction to this as sometimes I can be allergic to bath products, especially those made with cheaper ingredients. I liked the way my skin was perfumed afterwards, it was lovely and clean and fresh, and I think I would favour this product after say a gardening afternoon where I wanted to remove all traces of dirt, but for a treat I would not buy this as it is not a premium product in any way mis-labelled as a cheap one! It does leave a delightful fresh scent in the bathroom though, and the bath is easy to clean afterwards. I found it lasted a long time as it pours at a sensible rate being quite gloopy. I had 14 baths from this bottle, so it represents excellent value for money. Waitrose also make a hand wash and a shower gel in the same collection, which I am planning to purchase as certainly I think these have a lovely fresh appeal to them. They are both currently under the £1 mark too. Many people think of Waitrose and think one word -expensive, however the store has recently changed and is catering for all aspects of the market beautifully now. You don't have to spend a fortune to shop there, and some products I have recently discovered are working out to be better value than those found in The Poundshop! Conclusion ------------- This is a low cost budget product which performs up to expectations. Don't expect it will be moisturising, but it certainly leaves you feeling fresh and clean. I love the bottle and it reminds me of spring days to come, it has cheerful image to see in your bathroom on a miserable dark November day. Read the complete review |
