Yves Rocher Provencal Lavandin Shower Gel
by supersonic75 As most readers familiar with my reviews will be aware I have a real penchant for the french beauty company Yves Rocher and place an order with them at least 4 times a year (more so if funds allow). I love the plant based products as they suit my skin and body perfectly which is why I've been a customer now all of my adult life and ... whilst some products can be expensive I often take advantage of their offers which they regularly run. One such offer I always 'stock up on' is the 2 for 1 which in the case of bath products works out very economical. I've tried most (well all..) of their bath products over the years but have found the Jardins Du Monde range to be my favourite and is the most compatible with my skin type. This review will discuss my experience on using their 'Provincial Lavender' shower gel and my thoughts on the product.. **Price, packaging & availability** The shower gel is available in one size only which is a reasonable sized 200ml bottle. The bottle itself is identical in design to all of the other shower gels in the Jardins du Monde range being upright standing with a slimiline appearance from the side view with a much wider look from the front (and back) giving it a deceiving appearance and making it look much larger like it holds more product than it actually does. The bottle is made from recyclable plastic and veers in slightly from the base upwards giving it a 'squeezed' rectangular shape which I presume is to make it easier to grip whilst showering. To access the gel there is a flip top lid perched directly on top which true to form with Yves Rocher's products is extremely difficult to open without breaking your nails and almost taking a layer of skin off. There never seems to be enough overlapping plastic material to make it easier to open and this seems to be such a common mistake with their shower gels that now once I've initially opened them I never quite fasten the lid down fully again as it's so difficult each time, especially if hands are already wet and slippery. The bottle is actually transparent but because of the delicate lavender hue of the gel it gives the impression that the packaging is also this colour which contrasts nicely against the much darker purple lid. Apart from a sketch of wild lavender growing and the logo in white the bottle remains quite plain but because of the lavender colouring it still comes across as bright and aesthetically pleasing and looks very attractive perched on the edge of my bath. The normal RRP for this product is £3.90 which is more expensive than I would normally pay but because I stock up when it's on offer I received 2 bottles for this price which I think is quite a good bargain for such a luxurious product. As per usual this or any other YR product can be bought via their secure website @www.yves-rocher.co.uk, by phoning 0870 049 22 22, in one of their stores that are dotted here and there, or by checking out ebay. My preferred method of ordering however is by mailing leaflets which I am sent approximately every 4 to 6 weeks and this way also offers a 3 month credit facility which I find very convenient as I can 'try before I buy' and often take advantage of. **What Yves Rocher have to say about this** "...transform your shower into a cocoon of softness, thanks to the scent of Provençal Lavandin. This fresh-textured gel transforms into a light lather and envelops you in its aromatic notes with summery accents. Yves Rocher has chosen a particular variety of Lavender that transports you to a beautiful summer morning when crickets begin to sing. This fresh-textured gel transforms into a light lather and envelops you in its aromatic notes with summery accents. Yves Rocher has chosen a particular variety of Lavender that transports you to a beautiful summer morning when crickets begin to sing. Its botanical cleansing base gently cleanses your skin and leaves it subtly scented.." This is a best selling product according to their website which I can well and truly believe, and here's why.. **My experience of using this shower gel** On opening the (difficult) lid I am instantly greeted with a beautiful lavender aroma. The lavender scent is fresh and invigorating as well as conveying it's natural soothing aroma at the same time which may sound as though it's being indecisive but to me it is a very versatile product that develops to my mood and the time of day it's used which I will now explain. The lavender shower gel smells (obviously) of lavender but there is a fresh herby 'zing' scent that accompanies it that I haven't come across in in similar products. On squeezing from the bottle the product is of a neutral consistency and is neither too thick nor too thin so a small squeeze and the gel flows with ease when the bottle is tipped. I have noticed from several uses of (several different) the bottle that the gel doesn't lather very well on impact with water. This has never caused a problem though as the shower gel seems to cleanse sufficiently despite it's lacking in bubbles and lather and feels velvety soft when rubbing over the skin. The beautiful lavender aroma really is superior to any other lavender products I've used before and even if you are not a lavender scent fan then this could be the product to change your mind. I've used this when having morning showers and found that the fresh herby aroma that accompanies the lavender has an almost menthol, invigorating essence to it, and instantly wakes up my skin making it tingle in the same manner that mint based products do. The gel is easy to use and a small amount seems to cleanse my entire body, despite the lack of lather this is still a very impressive shower gel. When I've used this product on an evening I've found the gel has worked in the opposite to it's actions when used on a morning and calms, soothes and relaxes. The lavender seems more prominent and it's calming properties seem to shine through more though this could be more of a placebo effect I don't know but what I do know is it seems less invigorating when used on an evening. **Recommended?** I really *really* love this shower gel and it has become a firm favourite with not just me but also my husband too. Normally he uses whatever is lying around but he has commented several times on how nice this gel is so that's says something as normally he never really notices. The gel isn't drying on the skin, though I wouldn't go as far as to say it hydrates it either but it certainly doesn't leave it feeling taut or dry after I've used it and I always apply a separate body lotion after bathing/ showering anyway so it wouldn't be a problem for me if it did dry my skin slightly but it's an obvious bonus that it doesn't. I like how this lavender shower gel gently cleanses whilst leaving a soft subtle aroma behind for quite a while and I've been known to layer the scent sometimes with a Lilac EDT I own which is very similar in fragrance (also an YR product) and it just brings out the beautiful aroma that little bit more, making it last. I really do recommend this product as a small amount is all that is needed so the bottle lasts for a few weeks even when used daily, and if bought on a 2 for 1 offer then it's a very economical purchase as well as being a little touch of luxury. The bottle looks charming and elegant when perched on my bathroom shelf, and apart from the tricky to open lid and slight lack of lather it's a fantastic shower gel that I always make sure I have in stock in my bathroom. Despite the poor lather (and dodgy lid) I'm still awarding this top marks as the pro's far outweigh the con's and I thoroughly recommend it. 5/5 Read the complete review |

Yves Rocher Provencal Lavandin Shower Gel
by anonymili I've been using Yves Rocher on and off now for a couple of decades. I tend to get mailing every other month from them with special offers and generally they have some good 2 for 1 offers or similar. I'm a bit of a sucker for Lavender scented products so was quite happy to try out the Lavandin version of their Jardins du Monde ... shower gel range. I bought a couple of these and will say right up front that I was not at all disappointed with the quality of this beautifully scented showed gel. The 200ml shower gel is presented in a lilac coloured translucent bottle. The colour of the bottle itself is very pleasing to look at and the Jardins du Monde name is branded across a picture of stalks of lavender. The shower gel itself lathers up very nicely, not overly foamy in itself but lathery enough to feel very clean and fresh at the end of your shower with a subtle scent of lavender emanating from your skin. It's definitely not an over-powering scent so this is suitable for both men and women. I would have to add here that showers generally don't relax me enough to feel sleepy, so I rarely have a shower just before going to bed, I find it much more effective and refreshing to have a shower in the morning but some days I feel I want a shower later in the day as well and even though lavender is supposed to be relaxing, having this in a shower gel does not mean you'll feel "relaxed" after using it. It's refreshing and cleansing as well as somewhat moisturising but I wouldn't recommend using this too close to bed-time! Jardins du Monde means "gardens of the world" and the range includes other varieties such as Polynesian Tiare flower, Florida orange, Vetiver from Haiti and Lime from Mexico. Full details of the Yves Rocher range of products can be found here: http://www.yves-rocher.co.uk At the time of writing this shower gel retails at just under £4 for 200ml, personally, I'd suggest you wait till there are 2-for-1 offers or similar. Ingredients include: ammonium lauryl sulphate, sodium chloride, sorbic acid, glycerin, sodium benzoate, alcohol, linalool, CI7200 and CI42090. Overall I'd give this pleasantly scented shower gel a decent 4 out of 5 stars. Read the complete review |

Yves Rocher Hamamelis Shower Gel
by supersonic75 **Introduction and reason for purchase** As most readers who are familiar with my reviews will no doubt be aware by now, I am a fan of the french beauty company Yves Rocher. I've been using their products for as long as I can remember as my mum used to order from them and I remember ordering from them myself with one of my first ... wages when I started working aged 17, so it's pretty safe to say that I've tried the majority of their products over the years. Whilst I love their beauty items, they are not exactly the cheapest out there, and so I only tend to stock up every few months or when funds will allow. Because I've been a 'loyal customer' (their words not mine) for so long whenever I do place an order I nearly always receive a small free gift enclosed within my parcel as a way of saying thank you for my custom, which sometimes may be in miniature trial size or sometimes if I'm lucky enough is in it's regular sized packaging. Included in my most recent order was this - a full sized bottle of 'Hamamelis Shower Gel' - which surprisingly I don't think I've ever tried before. Once my current shower gel was starting to run dry I decided to put this to the test and see what I'd been apparently missing over the years.. **What Yves Rocher have to say** "...Yves Rocher brings you the softening power of witch hazel to give you incredibly soft skin..." *Tested on sensitive skin under dermatological supervision *PH balanced *Allergen free *No animal ingredients nor tested on animals *Colourant free *Key botanicals: Witch Hazel, Vegetable Glycerine. **Price, packaging & availability** The shower gel is available in various sizes and formats but the one I have and am reviewing is the 300ml version which currently costs £3.75. I'm not sure whether I would have paid that myself but a freebie is a freebie and I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. The packaging is quite basic and sedate which is unusual for YR products, with the (recyclable) plastic bottle being predominantly white in colour with a green flip top lid and just the slightest green on the design in the form of the logo and a picture of some leaves. Simplistic in design but it does give the product a very 'natural' look which is what it's trying to promote I suppose. As with all YR products they can be ordered in the following ways: *Via their secure website @ www.yves-rocher.co.uk *In store, which are sporadically dotted about *By phoning their customer services/ order line on 0870 049 22 22 *Order using their mailing leaflet (which also offers a 3 month credit facility subject to status) *Ebay usually offer a wide range of their products so if looking for something in particular it's worth browsing. **My experience of using this** For some unknown reason I've never actually tried this shower gel before despite it being around for many years. I think the rather boring packaging combined with the fact that this is a witch hazel based shower gel did little to lure me into trying it so have tended to avoid purchasing it myself. As this was a nice convenient size bottle containing 300ml then I thought it would be ideal to pop in the bathroom for all of the family to use. I personally prefer more 'exciting' shower gels but my two young sons and husband obviously aren't very fussy and tend to use whatever is in reach. Having decided to use this for myself before anyone else tried it I was quite surprised at what pleasant scent the gel had - that was after I'd almost broken every nail on my fingers trying to get the lid open (YR products seem to have extremely difficult lids to open for some reason). The fragrance is soft and gentle with a slight floral sweetness to it but overall it just smells incredibly fresh and clean. On dispensing I found the gel to be fairly thick in consistency though it was still quite runny when squeezed from the bottle and it's transparent appearance again does little to excite. Though this is a shower gel, so as long as it cleanses at the end of the day then I'm happy. The gel itself is a clear liquid as just mentioned, though as soon as it is mixed with water and rubbed against the skin it becomes a mass of creamy white bubbles. The fragrance is really quite pleasant, though very subtle, and not what I would normally opt for if choosing for myself but nevertheless it's noticeable even if soft. **Results and recommendations** Cleansing wise I would say this was quite mediocre I'm afraid as no sooner had the gel turned into a riotous lather than it had disappeared just as quickly. The creamy essence offered at first seemed to disperse far too quickly and didn't leave enough time to fully cleanse my skin with unfortunately. That's not to say that it left me 'mucky' but I felt the lack of lather just didn't feel as though it was cleansing properly despite it's initial intentions. Despite the lather dying down too quickly it did actually leave my skin feeling wonderfully soft to touch and afterwards it felt fully hydrated. I have skin that can border on the dry side and need to apply some kind of moisturiser after each shower or bath but felt that after using this I could skip that ritual (though to be on the safe side I still applied a body gel). The scent of the shower gel has caused mixed emotions in our household with myself and one of my sons quite liking it's unique fragrance and my younger son and my husband thinking it to be bland, 'dull and extremely boring' (quote!). I have just finished using this shower gel although I will admit I've not used it consistently as it has been alternated with different brands and fragrances though overall it has been 'okay'. It's not the most exciting product I've ever used but it did the job it was designed for and left my (sometimes) delicate skin feeling in tip top condition. It smells incredibly fresh and the plant extracts used are very apparent though it still isn't s product I feel I would actively seek out and buy of my own free will. As a freebie this was fantastic, though given it's usual RRP I would say it's generally expensive for what it is. There are a plethora of Hamamelis products available so if interested it's worth checking out the website though unless this was in a less than half price sale I think I'll stick to the more fragranced shower gels Yves Rocher have to offer. Just above average shower gel. 3/5 Read the complete review |
