Be good and Santa might just bring you some.

On the whole, i absolutely adore Aveda products, their scents are reliably gorgeous, classy and capable of really lifting my spirits.

The Caribbean Therapy Bath Soak is no exception!

It comes in the standard Aveda neutral-colourscheme bottle, which looks great in any bathroom...the only complaint i have with their packaging is that all the products look very similar, leading to several minutes of squinting at the small type when selecting treats in the department store!

Adding a few capfuls (4-6 is recommended) to running bathwater turns the water milky - this doesn't foam like many bath products do, but that's because it doesn't contain any of the chemicals needed to make bubbles, which can be harsh on your skin. Instead, the whole bath becomes like a silky nourishing treat for your skin.

Then, sit back and enjoy the delicious aroma. The Caribbean therapy range includes essential oils of lime, bay leaf, vetiver and amyris - a truly original and classy take on Caribbean scents, none of your tropical cliches (pineapple, mango etc) here. Bay leaf and Vetiver are amongst the less commonly used aromatherapy oils, but both have warming and reassuring qualities, helping you to relax and unwind. The overall scent is very much "premium spa" - it's subtle but very effective, and smells of expensive pampering in my opinion!

The soak also includes skin nourishing oils, and extracts of cocoa and mango butters, so you know it's doing your skin good even if you lay in the bath long enough to go wrinkly.

      ~ The results ~

Let's be realistic, the "relaxing" abilities of scent and warm water are considerable, but not miraculous. If you've had a tough day at work, are tired and just need some help winding down towards bed, this soak will work perfectly for you. If you're stressed to the max, have steam coming out of your ears, and have a quick dunk in the bath before rushing on to your next task, the only thing you'll be at the end is cleaner. So, i tend to reserve using this for the times when i know i'll get the most benefit from it.

In terms of the effects on my skin, the soak is gentle and not at all drying. As I have generally quite dry skin, i do still need to moisturise afterwards, and i'm taking one star off because of that; but to be fair, but i've never found any bath product where that isn't the case - apart from the true oil ones, which often leave me feeling sticky. And Aveda do helpfully provide a body lotion in the range too, if you can afford to continue the pampering!

Overall, i love this product, and i loved my brother and sis-in-law when they bought it for me for Christmas. The stuff IS expensive - about £20 RRP - so not something most people are going to buy as an everyday item; but it does make a fabulous gift if you're looking to spoil a loved one.
