“ Brand: Avon / Type: Body Wash / Suitable for: Body / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
I notice all the other reviews for this product are largely complimentary. Not this one though I'm afraid so I'm wondering if they have changed the formula recently.
What is it?
A 250ml bolttle of Avon Naturals Kids swirling strawberry body wash and bubble bath in a tear free formula.
The bottle is green plastic and the lid is bright yellow flip top. The bottle holds a generous 250ml.
We used this a couple of times before deciding it was too strong and smelled sickly. Definitely of strawberries but too much so. Even my husband commented on it one bath time with the kids that he didn't like it so it went to the recycled toiletries scheme we run at work for charity! Back to the actual use though... it actually functions well as a bath foam and gives generous bubbles when under running water. As a body wash it seems OK but I just can't get over that smell!
We received our bottle as a gift from the MIL and she runs AVON so we often get products at Christmas but she tends to gift the kiddy items through the year. Luckily I can be honest with her and tell her we don't like this one so she won't buy us any more. Our nearly-three year old is not that fussy and would probably be happy to carry on using this but obviously she needs supervising whilst in the bath so we have removed the item from the bathroom. I do worry about it being so strong smelling too on their skin, I know most toiletries have chemicals in them but this smells so strong it puts me off.
I know this costs around £3 normally but can often be purchased cheaper when it is on offer.
I think, perhaps it's just us but this product really makes me feel quite sickly, it smells so strong. I don't normally mind the smell of strawberries but this smells really sweet too. Not a repurchase for us!
We have enjoyed a number of products from Avons children range before, so when I came across this body wash in the brochure for just £1.50 I decided to give it a go. The packaging is bright and attractive mainly green with a fun strawberry on the front to represent the scent, and my children were more than happy to allow me to use this on them. It matches perfectly with apple shampoo and conditioner we use from the same range, and they actually look rather good sitting in the bathroom.
We use this as both a body wash and a bubble bath. I find with just a small amount of the gel mixed under running water it produces a great number of bubbles for little one to splash around in. The first thing you notice when dispensing the body wash is the sweet strawberry scent that is very strong from the start. It is a slightly artificial smell as you would expect, but it smells gorgeous and very sweet. It gets the thumps up from both my children and I in this area. The body wash is very easy to dispense from the bottle. While my children are toddlers so I still wash them while they are in the bath I do think it could be used by an older child who is a little more independent at bath time.
With a small amount of the product you are able to create a great lather that feels soft and luxurious on my hands. The sweet scent is even more evident when using it straight on to skin and it does last for a good while once my children are out of the bath. Not as long as other children's product from Loreal and such, but long enough for the price we paid. The body wash is surprisingly thick in consistency. The lather tends to feel a little heavy, so I guessed it may be difficult to wash off, but actually is comes away with no problem at all. While it leaves a slight residue in the bath after use I am pleased to say there is no trace of it on my children's skin at all once washed away.
My girls have very sensitive skin and this body wash has never caused any irritation. I do worry about changing anything that goes on their skins, as it can result in their eczema flaring up but just like the other products in the same range this has not been a problem. It can be used on both boys and girls while it is a sweet strawberry scent all of my children really like the smell. It also has a tear free formula which is essential with my children. Even if a tiny amount of water gets near their eyes they panic and it can be a struggle to get them to sit still. This has proved to be effective, and while they still jump around while I am washing away the body wash there have been no incidents of sore eyes from the shower gel itself.
I would highly recommend this body wash for children, and I have to admit I have used it on a number of occasions myself. It is kind to skin and works well and cleaning and making my children smell fresh. The simple packaging is perfect for children and I find they are more than happy to use this. It is perfect for making bath time a little more interesting, and my children still laugh at the silly strawberry on the front of the bottle. The 250ml bottle lasted really well even with four children using it. We have found that you only need a small amount which helps make it last that bit longer. To be honest I do not think I have ever paid full retail, as with all Avon products I tend to stock up while it is on offer.
We never have to purchase much bubble bath in our house as my nextdoor neighbour is an Avon rep, and she always makes up little gift packs for my children at birthdays and Christmas time with bottles of bubble bath in them.
Avon appear to have changed the packaging some time between my son's birthday last October and Christmas time as we were giving a swirling strawberry bottle of 2 in 1 body wash and bubble bath for Christmas.
Although I have never actually bought this myself, I see from the avon website that this is currently £1.50 for a 250ml bottle, though the normal RRP is £2.50. This is on par with the price of other branded bubble baths - I tend to spend somewhere round £1-2 when I pick some up while shopping.
We have had opportunity now to use this as both body wash and shower gel. Firstly, my children really like using the avon branded washes. I find that although my youngest son does have skin that is prone to dryness and becoming scaly due to him having mild eczema, this bran does not affect his sensitive skin in a negative way.
The smell on this one is an artificial strawberry scent. I am not personally overly keen on it, but the kids both seem to like it, and prefer it to the blueberry version we have used as well. The scent is strong when the liquid is neat, but when you add water to it the scent soon disappears.
As a bubble bath, this is not the best. The bubbles are initially ok, but within ten minutes of my boys getting in the bath to play, they have all disappeared. If they then use a bit more to wash, some more appear off their bath puffs and they can continue playing.
As a body wash, I feel this performs much better. The product foams well on the puff, and it provides enough foam for them to wash themselves and get clean. Their skin is left clean and soft, and in the case of my youngest son, without dry patches. It washes off easily.
I really like the bottle and the product for my children to use. It has a nice steady base, yet still looks really child friendly. My youngest son really likes the legs which make it look more like a character. My eldest son likes that he can manage to open up the flip top lid and pour this out himself, so he is gaining independence. At 6 and a half, he is starting to get to the age where he wants to take care of his own personal hygiene without parental help, so he can do that easily with this product.
If I were wanting to buy a decent bubble bath, this is not that kind of bubble bath due to the length of time the bubbles last, but for a mid week bath when I want the boys to hurry up and then be in bed on time to go to school the next day, this is perfect for limiting how long they want to linger in the bath. On a weekend I would choose another bubble bath for them. This would be great to pack for a holiday to save taking two products with us.
~ Avon Naturals Kids Swirling Strawberry Body Wash ~
Having an Avon rep down the street from me I always end up with a book through the door and I always end up getting something from it, whether I really need it or not!
So a few brochures back I saw that Avon had the kids bath items on offer, 2 for £3 or something like that and I thought that I may as well get somethings for the kids. I chose a watermelon scented shampoo and this Swirling Strawberry Body Wash.
If you are not aware Avon recently updated the packaging of the kids products and I think they now look a lot more funkier than before.
This comes in a lime green coloured plastic bottle with what looks like two feet at the bottom, the lid is yellow and is a flip top type which conceals a small pouring hole. The sticker on the front is bright and colourful with a pinky coloured swirling strawberry in the middle of it. Under this is states that this is a body wash.
I like that the chunky squat bottle has been made with kids in mind as it is those who will be using the product. It certainly appeals to my children anyway.
As we have a shower I like to get body washes and the such as I find the boys will use these with very little persuation unlike soap! My 5yr old loves this stuff and uses it with glee, he rubs it all over and stands out of the water sniffing away saying 'mmmm' until I tell him he needs to be under the water!
Opening the lid you will smell a very sweet strawberry scent not unlike the stawberry bubble bath Avon sell. It's a more sweetie like scent than the actual fruit and it does smell lovely. The liquid inside the bottle is quite thick but also runny enough for you to not have to really squeeze the bottle much to get it out. Pouring a blob into my sons hand I saw that it was very pink in colour and it looked as good as it smelt.
My son started to rub it over his body and I poured another little blob onto my hand to wash his back. It lathers up very well and managed to get my son all nice and clean.
Another thing that my son likes about these is that they have a tear free formula, he often has a right old moan about soap in his eyes, yet as soon as I mention the no tears thing he thinks it's fine and doesn't complain at all. He will happily wash his face with no fuss at all using this.
The same goes for the shampoos.
The scent, although quite strong when first poured out does fade when using and after the shower my son didn't smell of strawberries but did smell clean.
My older two boys have also used this in the shower and they both quite liked it, more so my 8yr old as my 11yr old said he would rather use Lynx! My 8yr old has always had eczema, since he was a baby and while it is now no where near as bad as it once was he does still have it mildly, so I do watch what he uses but he wanted to use this body wash as he liked the smell, so I let him use a little and it hasn't harmed him at all, it didn't dry his skin out in any way so I am happy for him to carry on using it.
I am quite happy with this product and will have no problems in buying it in the future.
The only negative thing about this product is the fact that it is not as widely available as some others, however if you don't have an Avon rep local to you, you can buy it online at www.avonshop.co.uk.
The usual price for this is £2.50 for a 250ml bottle, however is is currently on offer at £1.50.
Thanks for reading :o) x
Many readers who read my reviews regularly will be aware by now that I work as an Avon representative from time to time, when my poor health allows. This means that I have great access to many new products and ranges from the Avon company and I often get to try out new products before they appear in the brochures and become available to the general public.
In a recent flyer from the company, I noticed that their 'Kids' range was having a bit of a re-brand, with most of their existing product ranges being replaced by alternatives. Casting my eye over the range, I was pleased to notice a "Body wash and Bubble bath" product with an attractive-sounding "Swirling Strawberry" scent/fragrance. As I am a huge fan of fruit-flavoured shower and bath products, I decided on the spot to give the product a trial.
I paid only around £1 for the 250ml bottle of body wash, a price that I thought offered affordable value. It should be noted however, that this price was exclusive to Avon representatives only, and the normal brochure price of the product will be £2.50. As an introductory offer, Avon are promoting the product with a lower price of £1.50, but this is a temporary price available for a limited time.
I was impressed immediately with the product's packaging; consisting of a lime-green coloured plastic bottle, there is a bright yellow 'cap' on top, and there is a very chunky and 'robust' look to the product overall which makes it perfectly suited for it's purpose which is, of course, to be used by children. The best part about the bottle in my opinion however, is the addition of two moulded 'feet' which are located on the bottom and make up part of the actual bottle. This design is unique as far as I know, certainly I have never seen a similarly-packaged product on the supermarket shelves, and I did like the fact that it was so obviously created with children in mind. There is a cute image of a laughing strawberry, who does indeed appear to be 'swirling' in a mass of bubbles, and this appears on the front of the bottle.
The product itself is a pretty red/deep pink shade of see-through gel, which has a surprisingly thick consistency. I have used children's shower/bath products before and have found that they can be a bit runny and tend to spill all over the place. In the case of the Avon Body Wash however, this is not the case and I was able to dispense the product with ease. As soon as it escaped from the bottle, I could smell the gorgeous aroma of sweet strawberries and the fragrance was surprisingly strong.
I have used the product both in the shower as a body wash, and in the bath as a sort of 'bubble bath' with the product being poured under a running tap. I have found there are some differences in the product depending on which way it has been used, so I will give my findings individually.
When used as a bubble bath, I find that there is a generous amount of frothy bubbles present in the bathtub with only a spoonful or so of the product being used. Whilst said bubbles could never be described as being the most luxurious or abundant that I have ever come across, I found that a sufficient amount were present to allow for an enjoyable and relaxing bath time experience. The scent of the product was evident whilst I was in the bath tub, with the strawberry scent taking on a sort of sweet, 'sherbet-like' quality that I found quite pleasant and not over-powering. The aroma of the product didn't last on my skin after I had bathed in it, but this is not something that would necessarily deter me from repurchasing a product. All in all, I thought the product performed well as a bubble bath.
When I used the product in the shower however, I found the pleasant 'sherbet-like' sweetness in the fragrance that I had come to expect was nowhere to be found, with the product instead smelling only of (very sweet) strawberries. The aroma is not unpleasant by any manner of means, but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that it didn't seem to be as fruity or rich as when used in the bathtub. Aside from this little niggle, I thought that the product worked well when used as a shower gel, and I felt spotlessly clean and quite refreshed when it had been used this way. In terms of the scent lasting on my skin after use, the results were about the same as with the bathtub test and the fragrance diminished very soon after it had been used.
As the product is aimed at children, it does of course have a "Tear Free Formula" which is reassuring for me if I chose the product at bath time when my young nephew is staying over. According to Avon, the product is "Mild & Gentle", which I would agree with to a certain degree as I have suffered from no aggravation or sensitivity to my sensitive skin or eczema, which does flare up quite easily if overly-harsh or highly-perfumed products have been used. I wouldn't hesitate to use the product on youngsters as a result of my own experiences with it.
I haven't found that the product is particularly moisturising, so I do still need to use my usual body cream products after bathing or showering, but this is something that could be said of many or most of the other shower gel and bathing products that I use regularly, so I won't be deducting any marks in the product rating for this.
All in all, I really liked using the Avon Kids Swirling Strawberry Body Wash and it is a product that I would repurchase in the future. I liked it's versatility - being suitable for use in both the bath and the shower, and thought that the mild formula suited my sensitive skin down to a tee. The interesting and clever packaging makes it extremely attractive to youngsters and this has been proven with my young nephew pointing out the 'green alien' that sits on the side of his auntie's bath!
You can purchase the Swirling Strawberry Body wash directly at www.avonshop.co.uk or from your local Avon representative. The price for the bottle as @ May 2012 is £1.50.
