This is a review of Avon's Skin So Soft Signature Silk Creamy Body Wash which I have been using on and off for a few years now. I have seen the packaging change and updated several times too so I guess you can say I am a faithful follower. I don't actually buy Avon myself but always have plenty of the SSS range in as my MIL buys it for me for Christmas (she is a rep herself). I always rave about most of the range as it is a very nice line from Avon.
What is it?
The creamy body wash is a shower gel but a creamy version. You can use it with a puff or directly on the skin and it lathers up beautifully.
At the moment the bottle is a creamy white and it sits on its lid if you know what I mean. This ensures that the product is always ready to squeeze out. The packaging is really simple with the pink SSS logo on the middle and the shape of the bottle is slightly hourglass which makes it easy to grip.
Price and availability
The bottles I have had of this product are all 250ml which last a few weeks with regular use. As I didn't buy it myself I had to look up the price on the Avon website and to my shock it is no longer available (sob!). The good news is that there is still a good stock available on ebay at the moment so it is possible to still get hold of this.
I find this a really lovely product to use in the shower. It is creamy and feels like it leaves skin soft and moisturised after use. I have used it many times and never had a bad reaction. I find a small amount goes a long way and lathers up well, particularly if you use it with a puff. The fragrance is like all of the SSS range, soft and feminine and not too strong. This was always a favourite to take on holiday as I felt the smell was clean and fresh on an evening and I used it in conjunction with the dry oil in the spray which was supposed to deter biting insects like mozzies.
I am a bit gutted that this is not available any more but am hoping it's going to reappear soon under another guise in the Avon SSS range. Although shower gels are easy to buy and it is relatively easy to find one that appeals to you, I enjoyed using this one and felt the fragrance lasted a while after the shower.
In the past I've found Avon products to deliver mixed results, some good, some not so good and some really bad, so it was with great anticipation that found myself trying yet another Avon body product. The skin so soft range offers a wide range of body products including body washes, body moisturisers, hand lotions, bath and body oils etc. all with one thing in common. Moisturisation, to varying degrees but I assume with different fragrances. The signature silk option is said to boost your skin with intense moisturisation and elements of real silk. I chose Signature Silk Creamy Body Wash for no particular reason, it was just a random choice.
It comes in a pink plastic bottle with a flip top lid, which is always useful in the shower. You stand the bottle on the lid which helps to easily dispense the body wash. The wash itself, as the name would suggest is very creamy in texture and has a lovely floral smell. While the fragrance is quite strong it is not overpowering but strong enough to linger on the skin after washing. As this is a cream a small amount produces lots of silky smooth lather when used with a sponge or scrunchy and actually feels quite luxurious for a product in this price range. After use the skin is subtly fragranced and feels really soft and smooth and slightly moisturised. I have normal to dry skin that is sometimes irritated by shower/body products but I have not had any problems with this one. In fact my skin feels slightly less dry and looks quite luminous and healthy
The normal price for this is £3.00 for 250mls but is often on offer at half price or on a mix and match multi buy promotion which I think is good value. Avon products can be purchased through a local representative with free delivery or online via the Avon website with delivery charges of £3.50 for standard delivery or £5.50 for express delivery
Overall I would say this is a good value body wash given the fact that it has a reasonable price point and good hydration properties. However, although I myself like the fragrance it could be a little less pleasurable for some.
After using so many of the other Avon Skin So Soft products, I decided to give their Signature Silk scented body wash a go while it was on special (around £1.50).
It isn't inspiring, its just a plain cream coloured curvy bottle (think female hourglass shape) with the Skin So Soft logo branded on the front, the name of the product (Skin So Soft Signature Silk Creamy Body Wash) and the amount in the bottle (250ml). On the back is a peelable label which gives the description, directions in multiple languages, as well as ingredients. The bottle has no grip whatsoever, and is very slippery if you take it in the bath with you, plus the cap is very stiff and difficult to open if you have wet hands. One other design flaw, is that you can't leave it standing the way it's mean to be - cap down - as the cream body wash will ooze out a bit and cake all around the opening.
Description/Directions for Use/Warnings
With essence of silk. Instantly transforms skin, leaving it softer and smoother. Skin is dramatically irresistible to touch and sensually soft. Dermatologically tested. To Use: use washcloth or sponge to massage over body.
The smell of this body wash is exactly the same as a Barbie perfume I had as a child - I've even compared it since I'm sentimental and kept a teeny bit of the perfume! Basically it is very very sweet and both floral and fruity. Its very feminine, but does have a slightly chemically after-scent (rather than taste) which brings my rating down a bit, as I prefer natural scents.
Best described as much like liquid sun cream, its even white like sun cream, the wash is very runny and will dribble out of the bottle on its own with no squeezing required. This means that if you squeeze though, it will shoot out and go everywhere so try and use sparingly.
The Wash and Results
The wash has a nice smooth texture, and both feel creamy despite its runniness. It lathers up an average amount, after rubbing it together in your hands, and smells quite nice in the bath with other girly-type bath essentials such as bombs or bubble-bath. It applies and washes off easily, and cleans well too in those areas that need cleaning properly. It hasn't given me any skin irritation or redness at all despite its perfume content. Here's the best bit, it actually does what it says it will! After simply having washed with it (i.e. not left the wash lathered on my skin for long) it instantly makes your skin feel softer! If you leave the wash on for longer and scrub a bit with it, it will also leave it a bit smoother too. Both these effects last after you exit the bath (or shower) and will continue for a good few hours afterwards. My skin felt just like they said: silky, soft and smooth. But, and this is the negative side, if you want proper moisturisation which lasts for a couple of days rather than an evening I would suggest topping up with either oil or cream after using the wash and drying off, because then it really locks the moisture you've gained from the wash.
Overall I would say that this is an excellent body wash, which really does what it says, and is great for a quick moisture fix. But if you're looking for long term moisture, think about topping up with oils and creams afterwards, to extend the silky smooth feeling.
