Body Shop Vineyard Peach Shower Gel
Advantages: Lovely aroma - Feels refreshing to use - Kind to sensitive skin..
Disadvantages: I'd like the scent to be stronger..
Everyone has a weakness, and in fact I have several, one of which is undoubtedly purchasing skin care and body care products from The Body Shop. I don't recall ever browsing in store in my local branch and leaving empty-handed, such is my love of their beautiful products, and this love affair is very much indulged when The Body Shop have their sale items displayed - which happens every couple of months, in my experience.
It was during one such recent sale that I purchased several skin care items at a reduced price, taking advantage of the discounts that were available. This review will outline my experiences of using "The Body Shop Vineyard Peach Shower Gel" which cost me only £2 for the generously-sized 250ml bottle. I believe the normal purchase price is £4, and you can purchase in store, or online at the company's website at www.thebodyshop.co.uk, where postage costs apply. (Info correct as @ January 2013).
The packaging is fairly simplistic, I must admit, comprising of a circular bottle made of clear plastic, with the usual 'flip up' cap on top. There is an attractive image of a peach on front of the bottle which offers a little eye-catching detail. I don't recall ever experiencing any difficulties with using the product as a result of the packaging being difficult to use, even though I suffer with limited mobility and weakness in my hands.
The Vineyard Peach shower gel is a pale orange colour and the liquid can be seen quite clearly through the plastic bottle, of course. I find that the liquid is not overly runny, which I find quite agreeable as it means there is no mess or annoying 'dripping' experienced during use. I tend to take more baths than I do showers, and for this reason I like my showier gel products to be versatile enough to cope with use both in the bathtub AND in the shower.
Firstly, I find that the fragrance of the Vineyard Peach Shower Gel is quite delicious, being softly fragrant in its fruity essence. That is to say that I find the fragrance is much less 'robust' than most other fruit-scented bath and shower gel products that I have used from The Body Shop before. This is even more obvious when the product is used in the bath tub, as I find the scent becomes rather easily 'diluted' which is a bit of a shame as the fragrance is so pleasant. I do find that when the product is used in the bath under a running tap, it becomes rather faint and so I have stopped using the gel this way as I felt it was something of a waste. I do find that the gel's gorgeous aroma is much more obvious when it is used in the shower however, so it would appear that this particular shower gel is much more suited to being used via this method. I don't feel it is fair to deduct any marks from the product rating score based on the product's scent being too faint when used in the bath however, as it is marketed purely as a shower gel product and so I do feel this would be unfair of me. It's a shame the product is not as versatile as other shower gel products that I use on a regular basis, but I can't deny it is still a gorgeous product.
When used in the shower, I find that a little really goes a long way with the product, which means that the bottle is lasting well, making the purchase price seem very reasonable indeed. A small 'blob' of the pale orange-coloured gel on a wet flannel is really more than ample to cleanse myself thoroughly, and I find the soft, foamy lather that is created feels quietly refreshing on my tired, dry skin. It is at this point that I find the product's gorgeous aroma really comes into 'bloom' and I find the beautiful scent of fresh peaches envelops me in a subtle, fragrant cloud which is completely delicious. It IS true to say that even when used in the shower, I do still find the scent is rather subtle, but this is an observation rather than a criticism, as there is nothing about the gorgeous, fruity fragrance that I can complain about. I find too there is something of an 'uplifting' quality to be found from using fruit-scent bath and skin care products at times, and this is more obvious to me during the cold, dark winter months. The Body Shop's Vineyard Peach Shower Gel has not disappointed in this respect, providing a warm, softly fragrant scent to enjoy when showering that has felt very welcome to me in recent times.
The fragrance is entirely reminiscent of fresh peach, with a delicate sweetness running through its core that gives the scent a pleasant refreshing edge. This could easily feel overly sweet or sickly even, but this is not the case, with the fresh and fruity scent of peach feeling perfectly balanced as a result. After use, my skin feels thoroughly cleansed and rather refreshed.
I find that the scent doesn't last particularly long on my skin, and it is easily 'swamped' by using other, more 'robustly-scented' products on my skin, such as deodorant sprays and body creams. This is a shame, but it is entirely what I had expected given the more subtle aroma that this shower gel carries.
As with all products from The Body Shop that I have tried out before, the Vineyard Peach Shower Gel has caused nothing in the way of sensitivity or aggravation to my troublesome skin, with no unpleasant dryness or 'tingling' being experienced during or after use. This is evidence to me that the product does carry a rather mild and gentle formulation, and I would definitely recommend it for those consumers who - like me - suffer from either dry or sensitive skin, or both. In addition, I have not experienced any unpleasant 'flare ups' to the troublesome eczema that affects my skin.
In summary, I would definitely recommend The Body Shop Vineyard Peach Shower Gel and I thought it was a very pleasant shower gel to use, mainly due to its gorgeous fruity scent. I do have to admit that I would probably not purchase the gel again in the future, but this is only because there are other Body Shop Shower Gel products that I prefer slightly, as their fragrances are more robust. This is of course down to personal choice, but for me, I like something with a little more 'oomph' than I found from this Peach Scented offering, but I DO still feel it deserves full marks in the Dooyoo product rating score, and I DO still recommend it, on this basis.
Summary: I would recommend it, but there are other gels I prefer..!
