“ Brand: Boots / Type: Body Scrub / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Smoothes, Exfoliates, „
I read an interesting article about using body scrubs the other day and decided to haul this off my bathroom shelf and start using it. I've had the tub for many months but tend not to use it very often as I rarely seem to have time in the shower for scrubbing!
The article I read, however, reminded me how good it is for the skin and circulation to use a body scrub. The article suggested washing as normal, then turning the shower off and spending four to five minutes (yes, really!!) applying the scrub, starting at the ankle and working your way all the way up using small, circular motions. It suggests doing this twice a week.
So this is exactly what I did, using the Mango and Babassu scrub. The scrub itself comes in a massive plastic tub with a screw top. The scrub is a pale orangey colour, it's very thick and very 'scrubby' - I like my scrubs to be a bit rough so this was ideal. It isn't at all runny so I found I could scoop out a small handful and get to work. It is quite an oily product but I personally don't mind this - I feel this helps give skin a good moisture boost. Doing the five minute massage was wonderful - it really wakes the skin up first thing in the morning and my skin felt really smooth afterwards. And because the product is slightly oily I found I didn't have to moisturise after my shower, which is virtually unheard of for me! My only complaint is that the scent didn't linger enough.
As this is such a big tub I'm sure it will last a very long time, and I have vowed to keep up my new scrubbing regime at least once a week!
* I have looked at the Boots website and this product seems to have changed - they now sell Mango Sugar Scrub, which I imagine is a very similar product. But I hope you still enjoy my review - and maybe you can try the scrubbing regime with a different scrubber!
While out shopping again in Boots ( I do go to other shops honest!) I again spotted another great buy, this time it is their Amazon Forest Mango & Babassu body scrub.I love body scrubs where you plonk it onto your body and rub it all over with the gritty bits exfoilating your skin. I also love any of Boots Mango products so I didn't have to think twice about purchasing this beauty.
Coming in a large round tub which is clear so you can see straight away that it is a lovely peachy colour with the tiny atoms of salt like particles in. On unscrewing the large green lid you will see a rather soft very slighlty runny butter looking substance. Now putting your fingers in you will feel that it is exactly like a really soft butter, as you rub it into your skin as it is very greasy and the scratchy bits rub away any dead skin that you may have ( I'm not sure but I think that the scratchy bits are made from Walnut shell powder and Apricot seed powder maybe?). This has a lovely soft mango smell and once applied to damp skin you can massage all over your skin, once this is done you can now go on to shower off making sure that you remove every bit of the body scrub.
Now you are ready to use your Mango body wash, feeling soft skin as you apply the gel, this just makes sure that you have rinsed every bit off and you can feel that it did a good job yet again.
This body scrub consists mainly of Mango Butter and Babassu Oil, this oil comes from the seeds of the Babassu Palm which are grown in Brazil. The oil is a clear yellow vegetable oil and is fastly becoming the new replacement for coconut oil. This oil is known for it's moisturising of the skin without leaving your feeling all greasy.
So next time you feel like giving your skin a nice good scrub and removing all the dead skin I would strongly reccommend this twosome as they work really well together and leave you feeling all silky.
I was lucky enough to buy this large 400ml pot for only a £1.00 in the Boots sale ( it usually retails for around £7.50!) I really wished I had grabbed a couple more now, but never mind I've got this one to get on with!.
I love the mango and babassu scrub. It applies well and can be used comfortably on both face and body. It rinses off easy and leaves the skin feeling smooth and cleansed, although, it doesnt moistureize much. It also has a very pleasant scent. However, the other Boots Amazon Forest scrub, green, sugary, very greasy and hard to wash off is what needs some reworking from Boots. Karen Levy, Kingston Jamaica.
~~~What's a body scrub?~~~
A body scrub is a bath or shower product that has exfoliating properties, such as a grain or sugar type substance in it. It's a good idea to use a body scrub to get rid of any excess dead skin on the surface of your body. It prevents ingrown hairs if you do it before you shave, and it makes skin soft, smooth and less prone to blemishes.
Boots Mango and Babassu Sugar Scrub is part of the Amazon Forest range which contains a variety of products such as Brazil Nut and Vanilla Body Butter and Mango and Babassu Body Wash. All the products have a similar look, with green plastic lids, and it is possible to buy a variety of Amazon Forest gift sets. The range is very similar to Boots' Mediterranean range, but the Mediterranean products have brown lids to distinguish them, and different flavours/scents.
The body scrub comes in a large 400 ml plastic pot. It is clear so you can see the bright yellow scrub inside. It has a simple screw top lid which is easy to undo even with wet hands. The top of the lid has a large picture of a mango on.
~~What does it promise?~~~
The scrub is described on the side of the tub as containing 'softening mango butter, moisturising babassu oil and exfoliating sugar to help leave the skin looking incredibly bright and feeling smooth'.
The scrub is to be used in a similar way to most body scrubs: rub it onto damp skin, then rinse it away with warm water.
I was excited to use this scrub. It smells divine, like fresh mangoes, and it has a lovely vibrant colour. It feels satisfyingly grainy in my hand as well. However when I rubbed it into my skin I realised how incredibly oily it is. It leaves a thick greasy layer on the skin that is impossible to wash off. The only way I could get rid of it was to scrape it off with my fingernails! I thought that perhaps then this was meant to stay on your skin and moisturise it, but it didn't do a good enough job to prevent me having to use a separate moisturiser, and when my normal body lotion met the greasy layer left over from the scrub, the two curdled together and became a sticky mess. I also found the oiliness of the scrub stopped the scrub from exfoliating very well.
I wouldn't recommend this scrub as it is too greasy, doesn't do its job properly and leaves a horrible feeling on the skin afterwards.
~~~How do I get it?~~~
The scrub was bought from Boots for around £7 if my memory serves me correctly, however whilst checking on the Boots UK website to find the exact price, I discovered that they no longer seem to be selling it and that it is only available on the US website. So if you fancy some you will have to order online or have a look on Ebay.
This exotic body scrub with softening mango butter, moisturizing babassu oil and natural exfoliant will remove dead skin cells leaving you with soft, smooth and revitalized skin /
