Carmen Miranda Lush soap
Advantages: Nice smell and looks good.
Disadvantages: Left me skin feeling dry.
Lush has to be one of my favorite places to shop and I could spend hours in there smelling all the lovely products and tend to leave with a large paper bag filled with the stuff. Having shopped there for some time now I have developed some firm favorites that I keep going back to time and time again but I also love to try out new products or simply ones that I have not tried yet. I was so happy to received some lovely Lush sets this year containing some of my favorites along with some I had not yet had the pleasure to try. Amongst my goodies was the Miranda soap. Whilst I was happy to receive the soap I was also a little apprehensive, I guess I am not much of a soap person, infact I think in all the years I have been a Lush customer I have only tried two or three of their soaps. Still, I was more than happy to give it a go, perhaps Miranda would convert me.
Firstly the soap looks absolutely lovely, it is very pretty and girlie. I was given a 100g "slice" of the soap, though I have seen it prestented as rectangular slabs in the past. The majority of the slice was light green in colour with chunks of different coloured fresh fruit throughout. Having examined the soap I think I have identified these peices of fruit as being Kiwis, cherries and Oranges, but I wouldnt be surprised if the fruit varied depending upon the batch, or the slice for that matter. As i mentioned before my Miranda soap was part of a gift set, it was mixed in with other products packaged in a lovely box of eco flo potato starch peices. The soap itself was not packaged and as far as I know this is the norm for Lush soaps. This is brilliant for the enviroment, as nothing needs to be thrown away or even recycled thus reducing your carbon footprint. Of course this also means there is nothing to store the soap in when it is sitting in your bathroom, although a simple soap dish easily solves this problem.
As with all Lush products, Miranda soap has not been tested on animals. It is also suitable for vegans. All Lushs solid soaps are used made using A palm oil free base.
"Miranda" soap is named after the Brazilian samba singer Carmen Miranda, who famously performed her songs whilst wearing hats and turbans covered in multitudes of fruit during the 40's and 50's. It stands to reason then that this soap should contain plenty of fruit. The soap contains whole fresh Kiwis, exotic fruit and essential oils such as ylang ylang, juniperberry and bergamot. Kiwis are packed full of vitamins, minerals which Lush claim are benefital to the skin. Whilst the essential oils are added for their fragrance and give a calming and uplifting experience.
I have used my Miranda soap in the shower a few times now. Each time I broke a chunk of the soap off and rubbed it into my shower puff. I was happy to discover that it created lots of lovely bubbles and washed my body well. It has a fruity fragrance with a floral hint, but if I am completly honest I couldn't single out any particlar fruit. It has a nice fresh, clean smell which didn't seem artificial to me, that being said I wasn't completly wowed by it and found it rather mediocre. The soap was easily applied and rinsed off. Just after using the soap my skin began to feel tight, dry, uncomfortable and generally just not very nice. Although my skin did feel super clean it wasn't soft or moisturised, nor was the fragrance noticeable on my skin. Each time I used the soap it took a couple of applications of one of my favorite thick body butters to replenish my skin. I wonder if this soap would be more suited to those prone to oily skin rather than my "normal/dry" skin.
Overall I was fairly disappointed with the Miranda soap and have not been converted to Lush's soaps. It left my skin feeling dry and whilst it did smell nice I felt it was rather mediocre and just didn't last long on the skin. For the past few days the Miranda soap has been sitting in its dish at the side of my sink and I have been fairly happy using it as a general hand wash but this is more down to the fact that I simply do not like wasting any products, particularly expensive ones. I wouldn't buy this soap again and therefore cannot really recommend it. I award it a rather generous two stars for smelling good, looking nice and for its lack of unnecessary packaging.
The Miranda soap is available in most Lush stores and online (online delivery charges may apply).
