Cowshed Wild Cow Invigorating Shower gel
I am a member of a number of beauty trial sites and on one site we have a forum that allows us to notify each other of freebies and bargains. This 30ml sample bottle was part of a mystery lot I bought from a site selling natural toiletries and beauty products. I paid a small amount and received six samples which were a surprise until they arrived.
I have tried Cowshed products before and have not been greatly impressed. The last one was free with a magazine and I have since tested a few of their things in Boots and none has been worthy of the huge price tag in my view.
COWSHED AND THEIR ETHICS
On further research I have discovered that these products are paraben, petrochemical artificial colour and sulphate free which is a major plus and if they can do it I don't understand why Lush are not doing it considering they claim to be all natural too. Their products are suitable for vegetarians and only contain certified organic ingredients and no artificial fragrances or colours. All that is very positive and I applaud their philosophy and would even pay a little more for their stuff because of this. What is even better is that they are a British company and they stuff is made in Britain.
About the Cowshed:
I love the tagline for this brand 2 Feel udderley gorgeous with Cowshed' which I think is cute and clever. Their brand name is quirky to say the least and I'm not convinced that it makes it great for present giving. You would have to choose your recipient carefully as I'm not sure how I'd feel receiving a shower gel for a 'knackered cow', 'horny cow'. 'lazy cow' or in fact any gel with the name cow in it but I might be unusual here.
The company not only make shower and bath stuff but also do a living range of clothes, travel stuff like bags, baby clothes and a range of toiletries for men branded 'Bollocks' which again is a questionable name for gift giving! If you are interested in seeing the range or finding out more about the company the website is http://www.cowshedonline.com/. If nothing else you can have a chuckle over the names on their products.
MY COW PRODUCT
As I said this is a tiny 30ml bottle with black and white graphics on the label. This one has a silhouette of fern leaves and the name of the product 'wild cow' in a green, under the name is written 'invigorating: bath and shower gel ' le and in a much smaller font ' with essential oils of lemongrass, ginger and rosemary'.
The product description says :"An invigorating greenery body wash. Formulated with essential oil of lemongrass to cleanse & refresh skin .Blended with essential oil of ginger & rosemary to awaken senses & sharpen mind. Leaves body skin clean & energized.
On the back is information written in a pale grey in very small font so that you need 20/20 vision and a very 'clarified mind' to be able to get any of the information. I did just manage to make out that you had to avoid getting it in your eyes.
Previously I had tried 'knackered cow' so I was hoping that 'wild cow' would prove to be an improvement on that which was average to say the least. I so wanted to be able to say something good about English company making natural products in our country.
As I had their invigorating and uplifting shower gel I thought maybe a bedtime bath was not the place to first try this. I decided to wait till my morning bath and was hoping to feel uplifted and awakened after using this.
I opened the tiny plastic bottle and took a deep sniff. Now all the essential oils in this are quite strong smelling and indeed on first sniff I could clearly smell the ginger and lemongrass freshness it smelled like honey in there too but the rosemary must have blended in and just backed the other scents up. It reminded me a bit of the 'Naked' ginger shower gel I had some while back and reviewed on here too.
I poured some of the almost clear gel into my hands and lathered them up a little. I took another deep sniff and the same ginger hit me with a citrus lemony blend and yes I could smell a bit of the rosemary strength too.
The gel is clear and slightly thick, a bit like washing up liquid. It has a faint yellowish tinge but as there are no added colours it is pretty colourless which I don't mind at all.
The smell is not knock you out but is quite obvious and really natural not synthetic at all. It does lather up quite well but considering it doesn't have the surfactants I wasn't expecting a huge amount of lather and that also didn't bother me. I felt clean after using this but not that moisturized and I certainly wasn't feeling overly invigorated after using this.
I looked on Amazon and found this selling for anything from £8.99 for 100ml to £19.35 for 300 ml and I know it is expensive in Boots as well. While I understand that natural products cost more to create and that these are made in England I feel certain we are paying over the odds as Naked products are also natural and cost a lot less. I think part of the money s the brand and the quirky packaging which I am sorry but I am not tempted to pay that much for.
So sorry Cowshed this is a lot better than the previous product of your I tried but still too much money for what it is and there is no way I would buy any more of your products at their full RRP. I applaud your philosophy and use of natural products that are paraben, petro chemical and sulphate free but I think you need to refine your recipes so that the main ingredients of a product are at least evident to the user. The packaging is unusual and the names quirky and original it is just that the contents are not worth that sort of money.
I'll give it three stars for being relatively natural but I think the products are greatly over priced
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other websites under my same user name.
