Quality shower product from David Beckham, just not the bottle

I'll point out at the outset that I would never have glanced twice at a david beckham fragrance set, and that this was a gift given to me at Christmas by my brother-in-law, who probably has this entire range. You see, I usually go with what I know, and it actually takes someone else to suggest something or for me to be away from home and having to try someone else's product for me to consider something new. Still, the Beckham range has been praised and you do usually associate the word 'quality' with the man, so I thought why not...

I got this in a gift set along with the aftershave/eau de toilette, and I actually really like the fragrance. There's a subtley to it that slowly permeates your nose as you're using it, and at times during the day, I notice the occasional waft of it as well, so it has deeper elements to it that remain with your skin. This may have caused me some alarm, as I can occasionally develop bad skin through eczema and I don't usually entertain this sort of product. However, using it throughout the winter when we use the heating more and the eczema usually flares up a bit more, this was surprisingly gentle on my skin.

Applying it is easy enough, although it really doesn't lather much and I found myself needing to use slightly more at times than I potentially would have done with other products. The scent as I have mentioned is lovely, and while I wouldn't dream of being able to place them all without checking, a quick look states the following: grapefruit, mandarin leaf, cardamom seeds and patchouli. There's definitely a hint of spice in there, and this is perhaps what lingers the most. The grapefruit is not instantly noticeable but there is certainly something that takes the edge off the spice and this may be what it is. It doesn't have the traditional scent of something such as Old Spice, nor would I like it if it did, but the spice element is subtle and somewhat effective.

It has lasted me the best part of 6 months, and while I don't solely use this product it has been permanently in my shower. I do however have one gripe and that is the container itself. The screw top has a flat base and this stands very nicely as a result, but what bugs me is in not having a third hand to be able to successfully get some product out and then screw the top back on to place it back down again to use the product. There's no hook to hang it on, no easy way of screwing the lid back on and no clip mechanism that you can use to squeeze it back together. You have to somehow manage to use both hands and keep the product in you hand while screwing the lid back on and it just isn't easy, especially if you enter the shower bleary eyed in the morning like I do, needing to just wash without having to contemplate the logistics of a shower gel bottle. A tad annoying, and I'm sure many a millilitre has dribbled off the edge of my finger as I've tried to use the others to screw it back on; or has found its way out of the bottle and into the lid to be rinsed away or sit and congeal.

This is the only gripe I have, but it's a practical one and it does somewhat place a sour note on what is essentially a very good shower product. A change of packaging would have me contemplating buying this for myself, and would certainly have me asking my dearest for it as a gift at the important times of the year. As it stands though, it has me pausing and considering other products. It's sad that my shower time is over thought like this, but it just bugs me. Great product, awkward to use.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good shower gel.

      **Introduction**

I have been very impressed with the David Beckham range of Men's Toiletry products, Not only have they produced some decent scents that last well they also offer a decent quality for much less than the more premium products in the sector. I have now owned most of the David Beckham fragrance range and that includes a few tubes of the shower gels too. The subject for my latest review is the "Instinct" shower gel which is available alongside a deodorant and eau de toilette version of the fragrance. So enough about the range and now onto the actual shower gel of the range. Over the past few years the brand has become one of the biggest growing around.

      **Instinct Shower Gel**

Like most of the David Beckham range, The Instinct shower gel comes in a well presented tube which looks more up market than many shower gels of a similar price. At or under £5 this shower gel represents decent value and is longer lasting than pretty much all the other similarly priced popular shower gels. The Instinct scent is a light refreshing fragrance which would suit the younger male. It contains scents of grapefruit, mandarin leaf, cardamom seeds and patchouli. It goes well with the accompanying deodorant and eau de toilette products in the range and will leave your skin feeling fresh and smelling nice. The shower gel is available in 100ml tubes.

      **Overall**

I really like the way the shower gel blends with other Beckham products to give a very nice and subtle fragrance which will appeal to many. It's light but has a slight kick with the patchouli. Overall it is a very good product which represents value in the market. It won't be as outstanding a product as the more expensive shower gels but you wouldn't really expect that at around a fiver. You can pick up some fine deals on David Beckham products and will undoubtedly be able to find this shower gel and the others with an eau de toilette for around £10. This is a bargain considering the quality of the fragrance and the shower gel. It's not perfect but is a strong performing product for the money that will leave you smelling nice and also leave your skin feeling good. Definitely worth a try.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Essentially a gift item (Given the price).

Normally I try and stay away from products that have a celebrity's name attached to them (as normally they are not very good). However, having received this as a christmas present from some friends, I decided to give this one a go.

        Value for money

With a cheapest price of £5.45 (I have no idea how much my friends paid), David Beckham Hair and Body Wash is, in my opinion quite expensive (Radox Shower Gel and Shampoo for men is priced at 99p from boots, and has a greater volume of 250ml). Whilst it may be the case that perhaps you are paying more for the celebrity attachment (this may or may not be so, I don't know), the quality of the product is in my opinion suprisingly good. Over the years I have tried shower gels and soaps that leave you feeling as if your skin has been shredded (dry skin etc), but David Beckham Instinct Hair and Body Wash doesn't seem to be as harsh (leaves you feeling clean, but no dryness).

        Other Points

In my opinion, David Beckham Instinct Hair and Body Wash has quite a manly smell (imagine a mix between a pinecone and aftershave), which is perfect, as it is aimed for men. Similarly, I am very impressed with the presentation of the product (silver lettering on black - stylish) which I feel lends itself to those adverts that you see for mens' aftershave and probably wouldn't look out of place in a barber's.

In conclusion, I would recommend this product to a friend, but only as an indulgence (bought less often, given the price - ideal as a gift etc). David Beckham Instinct Hair and Body Wash is, in my opinion, something that would be well received by most men (given the fact that it is presented in a manly way and has a manly smell), thereby, again lending itself as a gift item. Also, the quality of the product itself is, in my opinion, very good (leaves you feeling refreshed). In all, a perfect gift item.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A nice body wash from the Beckams....again!

My boyfriend is one of the most fussy people that I know in every way. He loves the David Beckham products and so whenever I treat him to anything it's a safe bet to buy him something from the range cos I just can't go wrong!

I purchased this actually for him from Amazon when I spotted it and had a few quid spare and popped it in my bathroom to use when he was visiting here and not using it before he was really pleased with it!

        The Packaging:

The dark blue plastic tube is the squeezy kind with a flip-top lid to the bottom of it concealing a small hole. On the front of the tube and in silver metallic writing we are told that it is David Beckham (with D and V entwined above it) and we are told that it is hair & body wash (Gel douche corps et cheveux) and the size is stated which is 200ml, 6.7 fl.oz. On the back of the tube other information listed includes being given the website for the brand (www.Beckham-fragrances.com), we are told that once it is opened you should use it up within 30 months and contact details for Coty (the manufacturer of the product) are given. It's a really simple and easy to handle tube this one and I like the simple look to this.

        The Hair & Body Wash:

This gel is relatively thick and smooth and transparent. It has a gorgeous aqua fresh to me and really fresh and masculine and is a blend of orange, mandarin and bergamot, cardamom, pimento & star anise, vetiver, white amber & patchouli which really is well blended. The orange, mandarin and bergamot are the most apparent part of the fragrance with the heart of this being patchouli. It's simply a fresh scent.

My man reckons this is lightly hydrating on his skin and his skin certainly feels soft to me after he's had a shower in this. He showers with this and the scent lasts hours of his skin and he simply loves it, as do I!

Now we have a long distant relationship and like I stated at the top of this review this lives in my bathroom for when he visits. When I have missed him badly I have used this before bed on one or two occasions to remind me of him! Ok its sad but only I smell of it and I go to bed anyway lol! Once again, like on him this really is skin softening and although on him it smells masculine, on me it simply smells like a sea fresh smell! It makes my skin clean and soft, lathers up brilliantly though again, like my boyfriend I wouldn't use this on my hair as I prefer to use a shampoo and conditioner! The scent lingers on my skin for hours and all in all I love this body & hair wash and I won't hesitate in purchasing more for him in the future. You don't need very much of it per application at all and so it lasts ages! Lovely, great quality wash this is!

I paid £5.15 for my boyfriends tube on Amazon.
