“ Brand: Dove / Type: Soap / Texture: Cream / Exfoliator / What it does: Exfoliates, „
I had read a good review for this quite a while ago and bought a pack to try a few months back. With my poor memory, it went in a cupboard with other health and beauty supplies and spares, so I only started using it recently. I'm starting to wish I had opened it sooner!
Dove is a very popular brand that I trust to make effective products that are gentle on skin; with years of experience and an ever-increasing range, I was looking forward to giving this a try. This particular soap stands out from the crowd because it's not simply for cleaning and cleansing, it's also for 'Soft peeling, gentle exfoliating'. It's designed as a product that's kind enough to skin to be used on a daily basis, though I wouldn't necessarily say this is a replacement for 'normal' soap.
These come in a primarily white wrapper with blue detail and the Dove logo is clearly visible. It's sold as a twin pack, of the ones I have come across at least, so you get two bars. Each bar is white and a regular soap size, rounded for a good solid feel in your hand to make it easier to hold and use, and chunky enough that it should last a while. You can see the blue-ish specs in the bar, which are the exfoliants.
The product claims to aid in stimulating 'the skin's natural surface renewal process to reveal healthier, smoother skin'. How does it do this? By the 'ultra fine exfoliants' that remove the dead skin cells and dull skin. Next, the moisturising qualities, including Vitamin E, 'replenish' skin to leave it smooth and soft. There are many face scrubs and body scrubs out there that claim to remove dead skin cells and leave skin smooth, but in my opinion this is different in that it's more gentle and also has moisturising properties.
Due to its gentle formulation, it does suggest this can be used on both face and body on a daily basis. I tend to just use it 'as and when', which could be every other day and it's mostly for my face as I keep it by the sink rather than in the shower as soaps always tend to get very messy and fall apart in there!
After using this I must admit that I notice an instant difference in how my face feels. It's like I've had a good exfoliation and cleanse because it feels clean and like the dull exterior has been melted away to leave smoother skin. I can have somewhat sensitive skin at times and although this doesn't irritate me at all, it does dry my skin a bit (as do most if not all soaps/cleansers) so I pop on a bit of moisturiser afterwards. My face looks that bit cleaner, less oily or tired almost, because it appears clean and fresh. The biggest bonus is probably the smoothness of my skin afterwards, so it does make me think that the soap works to both cleanse and nourish.
Overall I would definitely recommend giving this a go if you want something kind to skin but that is still effective in exfoliating to reveal cleansed and soft skin.

I must admit I never really buy soap as I often find them to be rather drying so when washing my face I always prefer to use a make-up remover wipe or pad followed by a gentle facial cleansing wash or a scrub. When washing my body I tend to go for a shower cream or a gel rather than soap. On Christmas gone I received a gift bag from my mam as I do every year which contained lots of bath and body products and amongst this bag was a dove gentle exfoliating soap. I put the contents of this bag in my drawer to use as emergency supplies and a few weeks ago during a sort out I came across this soap again and decided to use it for a week or so for reviewing purposes.
The soap comes in a nice sky blue and white cardboard box that can be opened easily at the side. The box contains a 100g bar of exfoliating soap. The soap is curved shaped and white with a picture of a dove dinted into the top. If you look closely you can see very faint grains of sky blue through the soap.
This soap uses ultra fine exfoliants to remove dull lifeless skin whilst the ¼ moisturising cream replenishes and soften the skin to ensure it doesn't dry out. To be perfectly honest the exfoliating grains are so small you can't feel a thing when washing. It certainly doesn't feel like you are having a nice scrub it just feels like you are using a normal soap to wash.
I tried this soap on my face originally and I decided not to use my make-up wipes prior to use and I must admit this did remove all traces of make-up including the waterproof mascara that can be sometimes very difficult to shift. After using my face felt incredibly clean and also very soft. I think this soap creates a lovely base for moisturiser and I was quite impressed with it. I also decided to have a go of this soap in the bath and even when extremely wet you still couldn't feel the exfoliants.
I must admit I am quite impressed with this it is the total opposite of general soaps and does not dry out the skin at all, it does however give the skin a lovely clean and moisturises as it goes and even though you cant feel the exfoliants they must be there considering a can be prone to dry skin around my eyebrows which seems to have now tamed right down and nearly disappeared since I have been using this soap.
Although I will be sticking to my shower creams for my body I think I may have been converted to this soap for my face. I have saved a small penny on make-up remover pads and wipes and my face feels and looks a lot better and moisturised and I also feel that the soap provides extra moisture on top of my moisturiser.
Overall I would definitely recommend this gentle exfoliating soap which you can pick up as a pack of two for £1.50
After being disappointed with the shower therapy exfoliating shower gel that I reviewed, I purchased Dove exfoliating bar. I wanted to exfoliate my skin but not with anything too abrasive as I didn't want to irritate it. I have used both Dove's moisturising bar and exfoliating bar in the past and am really happy with both.
The product comes packaged in a small box. The product itself is a white oval shaped bar of soap which is arched in the middle. The Dove name is printed on top of the bar. There are small blue grains throughout the bar which is what exfoliates your skin. The bar is also made with ¼ moisturiser which helps your skin to remain soft. You can a twinpack with 2 x 100g bars for £1.47.
I think this is a really great product. The blue exfoliating beads are just on the right side of abrasion - not too harsh but not too gentle. Abrasive enough, that you feel your skin is being given a good scrubbing. The moisturising element of the bar makes this product even better as, whilst you are exfoliating you are also moisturising. This means your skin is not being adversely affected by the scrubbing.
As with all Dove products the soap has a really nice fragrance to it which remains on your skin long after washing. The bar is really creamy so it is fine to use on its own, it takes a few washes for the exfoliating beads to come to the surface of the soap and really give your body a good scrubbing. I wouldn't suggest using a shower puff with this soap as the beads would just get caught up in the mesh. It's much better just to rub the soap on you.
