“ Brand: Elle Macpherson / Cleanser / Type: Body Wash / Suitable for: Body / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, „
As you will see from previous reviews as a present I received an Elle Macpherson gift set containing various body scrubs, washes and moisturisers, another of the items included in the set is the Elle Macpherson The Body, Start The Day Body Wash, this is basically a shower gel type product designed as the name suggests for the mornings (although I use mine in the evening) and I have to admit I think this is my favourite part of the gift set.
The packaging that the Body Wash comes in is basically identical to that of the Elle Macpherson Body Scrub which was also included in the set (previous review) It comes in a cream coloured tube with a shiny dark brown/ black lid which simply screws on and off, there is a pale blue band and a black band going around the bottom part of it (near the lid) The name Elle Macpherson is written down the whole left hand side of the tube in thin black capitol letters, under this are the words The Body in the same style but smaller writing, the word Bare is written right at the top of the tube in a very pale blue writing. The actual name of the product "Start The Day Body Wash" is written in slightly bolder lettering towards the middle of the tube with a small sentence about the product directly beneath this, this states "refresh and revive with this luxurious shower wash scented with uplifting citrus oils", the volume of the tube is written just below this. The back of the tube contains various information about the body wash such as the ingredients, warnings and directions of use, all of this information is written in small black writing making it stand out against the cream background of the tube and easy to read. The tube has no actual label, all of the information is written straight onto the plastic. Overall the Elle Macpherson packaging is quite plain and simple, it seems to contain the bare minimum and only the information needed, there are no pictures or unnecessary writing.
The Body Wash is basically a shower gel, it is totally clear and has quite a runny consistency for a shower gel, speaking from experience do not squeeze the tube too much as you will end up with more body wash than you know what to do with, the gel comes out of quite a wide hole in the bottom of the tube, there is nothing to control the amount you use other than squeeze the tube carefully. With the other 2 Elle Macpherson products you will see in my reviews that I have not been overly keen on their initial fragrance due to it being quite strong and a little over powering, so I expected the same with the Body Wash. However I was pleasantly surprised, I squeezed a small amount out of the tube and was greeted by a lovely citrus fragrance, whilst there was still a hint of the fragrance I was expecting it had been toned down a lot by the citrus oils included in the product making this the more dominant smell. The wash lathered up nicely and I found that a little bit went a long way, there was no need to use loads at a time making it reasonably long lasting and economical. After I had used the Body Wash my skin really did feel clean and refreshed, I could still smell the light citrus fragrance on my skin afterwards, however this did fade quite quickly.
Directions For Use
Well we all know how to use a shower gel but as Elle Macpherson feels we need to be reminded, the back of the tube states that all you need to do is apply the "Zesty wash" (their words not mine) to wet skin with a sponge or loofah, rinse, towel dry and moisturise. Its that simple!!
These are pretty standard and very similar to that of the other Elle Macpherson products I have reviewed, but the main warning is to avoid contact with your eyes, if this does happen rinse well with water. Although not stated on the bottle should allergic reactions occur or persist seek medical advise.
Unfortunately I was unable to find the exact price of this product other than when it is sold in sets, the gift set I have cost £4.00 for a 50ml tube of Body wash, Body Scrub and a pot of Moisturiser, and I have also found a different gift set again from Boots containing various Elle Macpherson products including the Start The Day Body Wash, this was a slightly larger set and cost £7.00.
Overall I have been very impressed with my Elle Macpherson Start The Day Body Wash, it really did leave my skin feeling fresh, although I have only used it in the evenings I can see how the citrus fragrances could wake you up in the mornings, the fragrance of the Body Wash was a great improvement on the fragrance of the other 2 products in the gift set, it was not quite as strong or overpowering but rather than being a strong floral smell (which I could detect in the Body Wash slightly) the main fragrance was the citrus oils. Whilst I am not sure where to buy this product alone I would definitely recommend it, although buying a whole gift set for just one product in it does seem a bit extreme, other than that it was an all round good quality body wash which I would use again.
i got this item as part of an Elle macpherson set i got for christmas last year, and hadnt got round to using it until now
the packaging of this product is quite plain, its an off white coloured bottle with stripes around the bottom and varying styles of lettering telling you what it is. In the set i got, i only got the small 50ml bottles, but i know you can purchase this is bigger sizes. the bottle has a screw on lid at the bottom which it stands on, so all the little bits at the end get used so there is minimum wastage
this body wash works well, and its consistency is quite runny. its clear in colour, but smells gorgeous. i use this with an exfoliating mit, or with a sponge on the rough side and it works well with these
Elle Macpherson is an Austrailian model, who has done some very oustanding things in her life, the most recent is becoming the new host to britains next top model. She is an actress, model and buisnesswoman and has produced this line of products for the body named "the body"
this morning body wash smells fruity, and has a hint of citrus in there. you dont need to use much of this product to wash your body, (about 2 little dollops) and when using an exfoliating mit it can produce great results
in a morning, if your feeling groggy and tired and need to be woken up, this actually does that. the fragrances kick start the day, and washes your body. When i look at this against other brands, it does basically the same thing, only with this product you know it has been made by a Model, so this may hold some of the attraction i have to this rather than cheaper brands.
however, being a student, i cannot possibly afford to buy Elle Macpherson products to buy everyday, and when this ran out i didnt purchase any more, but maybe santa will be nice to me this year :)
Bare is one of the lines in the skincare range by Elle MacPherson. Start the day bodywash is a shower wash with citrus oils, and claims to 'refresh and revive'. I was given this as a gift for christmas, and whilst its perfectly fine to use, I wouldn't think of paying £5 for it, its just not that good.
It comes in an off-white tube, with coloured stripes near the bottom and black lettering on the tube. The product itself is a clear gel, and smells quite nice, it has quite a zesty, citrusy scent.
I apply it with a body buff, you don't need a lot to work up a good lather, two 50p sized amounts should be enough for the whole body if you use a body buff or exfoliating gloves. The scent is quite uplifting in the morning, it's really nice. However, the scents of lots of 99p shower gels are uplifting as well!
It doesn't really make any difference to how soft my skin is, it's not good or bad in that respect, it just gets me clean. In fact, there's nothing special about it, and that's why I wouldn't really recommend it. Around £5 being its regular price, its quite a bit more expensive than regular shower gels, and I can't see any reason for this except for the fact it has EMP's name on it. Its fine to spend more on a shower gel if it feels luxurious and better than ones that are cheaper, but this doesn't. It smells quite distinctive, but I think I prefer the smell of my cheaper cirtus shower gel!
Overall, if you want to spend money on buying a really nice and luxurious shower gel, I'd advise looking elsewhere, as this just isn't worth it. I hope this was helpful, thanks for reading.
I am still slowly getting through the bath stuff I got for Christmas and I realised I still had a little tube of this sitting all by itself on my bathroom shelf. I thought for a moment... had I used it yet? I definitely remember getting it and being excited. I mean its Elle Macpherson. I expected big things! She is a worldwide supermodel after all and if her name is against then I expect something relatively special. So I gave it another try and instantly remembered why it was sitting all alone in the jungle that is my bathroom.
* Elle Macpherson The Body *
If you don't already know, then Elle Macpherson is a stunning supermodel who has still managed to keep her amazing figure and looks throughout the years. Even after having children and almost reaching 50 years in age, Elle Macpherson is a goddess in her own right and has somehow managed to keep her in the modelling business for over 25 years. Hence her industry nickname of 'The Body'. It makes sense! So she has taken that name and created her bath and body collection labelling the range 'The Body'.
Her range is divided into three separate collections. Bare, Glow and Self. They are described as being bath and beauty merchandise that let you choose a product that fits your mood. I understand this to some degree as when I want time to relax I choose a soothing bubble bath that has calming influences such as lavender. I don't think this is a relatively unique idea at all as most bath and beauty ranges have products to fit your mood.
All of her range is exclusive to Boots although I am sure if you look around you will pick them up in other places.
* Bare - Start The Day Body Wash *
The 'Bare' range from Elle Macpherson The Body catalogue is aimed at being your everyday essentials with a citrus hit. I have a 50ml squeezy tub which came in a gift set but you can buy the full size 200ml from Boots for £4.95. I think this is expensive for s body wash but as it is classes as a premium range you are definitely paying for the name rather then the product.
The tube itself is cream in colour with a minimal and sophisticated look about it. Apparently Elle Macpherson has a holistic approach to life and wanted the packaging of her products to reflect this. Hence the natural creams and earthy tones. At the bottom of the tube is a band of warm grey, silver, black and clay blue which not only represent colours of the natural world but also of Elle Macpherson's own signature wristband and bracelet range. I suppose if she can advertise two ranges in one then why not!?
The front of the bottle describes exactly what this wash is for. It aims to refresh and revive with a luxurious wash scented with uplifting citrus oils. It sounds great for waking yourself up in the morning and I have visions of a soft, creamy luxurious wash that really makes me feel fresh, clean and awake. High hopes.
* What Was It Like To Use? *
I do prefer body washes that stand upside down with the lid at the bottom. It makes it easier to use the wash when your hands are wet as well as making sure you get as much out as possible. I screwed of the lid and squeezed a small amount out. The wash itself is a rather thick, clear gel. It looks rather posh and as it was so thick I just squeezed out a small amount.
Instantly I have to say the scent hit me. It was sharp, zingy lemon and it almost made my eyes water. Usually I love citrus scents but this almost made me heave! Really. It had the similar fragrance to that of a cheap bathroom cleaner. It really was far from pleasant. I scrubbed the wash into my arm not wanting to spread it to far just incase the smell stayed and I was still disappointed. There were no smooth, silky bubbles. It hardly frothed up at all. The smell stayed strong and it completely over took the bathroom. I rinsed off the wash refusing to use it anywhere else. Now I completely remember why this was still sitting on my shelf!
The only benefit of this body wash was that it left the skin (on the one arm that I used it on) feeling extremely soft and clean. I guess the strength of the scent stripped my skin of any dirt! It really is a shame that the scent is so overpowering and bleach like. It definitely will wake you up in the morning with the strong whiff but I just don't fancy spending the whole day at work smelling like toilet cleaner.
* Recommendation *
I have to say that overall I was disappointed with this shower wash and there is no way I would spend almost £5 on a bottle. It had an awful smell and felt far from the luxury I expected. On the plus side if you want to be woken up and have soft skin as an after thought then give this a go. Just make sure you moisturise with a nice smelling cream to get rid of the toilet bleach smell.
It definitely looks nice on the shelf and the entire wash reminds me of something you would find in a hotel. Cheap and tacky but packaged to look deluxe. If you want some supermodel glamour in your life then I don't think this will help at all. I bet even Elle herself puts it at the back of the bathroom shelf!
