      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not for girls

I have always loved Imperial Leather and when I noticed they had started making shower gel and body wash I had to try it out; their soap was always a great hit. The bottle is a clear plastic with a blue lid, almost the same colour as the body wash. The top lifts up to reveal a hole that you squeeze the body wash out of. The wash itself id a deep blue colour and is quite thick.

I bought the Kick Start Energising Hair & body wash because it was on offer at £1 a bottle, not because of any claims it had on what amazing things it can do. It is made with ginseng & guarana, which I have no idea what they are, according to the label ginseng is fatigue fighting and energising while guarana is a powerful natural stimulant and toner. This will kick start your day with a body-boosting blend of energising Ginseng and Guarana. This hard working, time-saving gel comes alive with the humidity of your shower to clean up both hair and body. I can assure you that I was not taken in by these claims, after all how many women actually use a body wash to wash their hair with? I am guessing that this must appeal to men as they can do all their cleaning in one swoop! I wouldn't be able to wash my body with this then my hair and not condition it afterwards. This isn't going to save any time in my book. I have to admit the scent is very manly and after using it once, I have left it to the males in the household to continue its use as it is more of a man product that a female one. That said it lathers nicely and does clean and refresh you during use, I am not sure I felt any more refreshed than I do after a shower without this though.

I would buy this again but generally just for the boys, I need something more flowery.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good for what it does.

Packing to go away is a problem for me, as I have to take several extra things that many people can miss out. I have mobility problems and difficulty getting in a shower. Once in I also find it hard to keep my balance when showering. I won't go into boring details but I lose my balance with my eyes closed so usually wash my body then kneel by the edge of the bath and wash my hair separately. This entails taking shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and an extra towel to put on the floor when washing my hair. It may sound a bit of a palaver, but I travel more often to visit my family and have to carry a suitcase and that's hard with mobility problems.

Although you can buy small bottles of travel products, I find these heavy on my budget, so when I saw the Cusson's Kick start product I was quite pleased that it states it's hair and body wash. At just £1 I thought it worth a try as I could use this when swimming as well. I do use a lot of shower gel, as swimming is my main exercise so I used this first on a swimming trip. My local baths has a disabled shower with a rail though I still worry about getting my feet too soapy, so this was a great test for it.

The bottle itself is similar to most shower gels, though it doesn't have a hook for hanging it on the shower. It has a nice sturdy lid that doesn't spring open when turned upside down, so this was a plus for me. I lose an awful lot of gel that way and often soak my shower bag. There's also the problem of getting slippery feet, so this passed the test too. I often wondered why shower gel bottles were a curved shape. Is it aesthetic? No, it actually makes it easier to grip, though I have found better ones than this. The lid has an opening, which I can get my thumb in; this is a benefit for those with arthritic fingers. You might consider by now that there should be special bottles for disabled people, if so then please let me know.

I do have a big gripe on the labeling of the bottle. The product is a deep blue color and the bottle is blue with a pale blue label. Unfortunately it has a lot of writing that is white against the (very) pale blue background. Now I've just had new reading glasses and I still can't read part of the description. I could check online but that defeats the issue. All I can read is the parts lettered in pale gray. The only word that I can read easily is one word START! I had to read it in daylight to check the ingredients and it's still hard to read. I made out that it's: -
Mild enough for the whole family
      Dermatolocigally tested
      100% soap free
      Skin friendly PH.
Otherwise I couldn't see anything that would cause me any skin rashes so went on to testing the product.

On opening this has a faint medical smell, none of the ginseng and Guarana that is on the bottle. Now I know that ginseng is supposed to be good for giving you energy over a prolonged period of time but I did expect some nicely scented product as I was using this on my hair as well. Now some people might scoff, but women do like nice-smelling hair. Even my cheap and cheerful Tesco gel has various scented products.

On to the testing. I squeezed out about a 50p coin worth of gel and started to soap my body first, I wasn't chancing it being too soapy underfoot. It lathered reasonably well and didn't slide down my body in large amounts of bubbles. I swilled off a bit and then applied some to my hair, bracing my back against the shower rail. It didn't lather very well on my hair despite the fact that my hair is short. I didn't want to use a second amount but my hair still smelled of chlorine so I had to apply some more. By now I was feeling a bit shaky. I do feel tired after a swim anyway, but this is one reason I bought the product, to use only one type of product. This time it soaped well though I did have to rinse really well to get rid of the soapy lather around my feet. My skin felt clean but my hair felt as if it needed conditioner.

I did try this product at home, expecting it to be easier in my own bath (I don't have a separate shower). It was a little easier as I do have a plastic bath seat, however, I can't carry this around with me so overall the product didn't really suit my own particular needs. For somebody else I'd say it's a reasonable product and lives up to some of its claims. It didn't kick-start my day, but I didn't expect it to. At £1 it's worth a try, but I'll keep on using my normal products.

      Thanks for reading.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Cheap, Quality Shower Gel

The range of products under the Imperial Leather banner, from soaps to shower gels to body washes, are renowned for being cheap and quality products, ideal in these times of recession when people are looking to cut back on spending costs of essential items. I would strongly recommend this product for these purposes.

I first came across this when it was on offer in a local discount store for 99p. I don't tend to stick to one brand of shower gel and usually buy whatever I see first or whatever is on offer. That was until I came across this and now I always look for this first and only seek elsewhere if imperial leather isn't in stock in the store I am in.

First of this is a Shower Gel product suitable for both genders and suitable also for both the hair and body. For your 99p you get 500ml and its good value as it works well in small amounts so depending on shower habits it can last a while and certainly is longer lasting than most other brands.

It's a blue coloured liquid intended to provide a fresh Ginseng and Guarana aroma and freshness to the user. It certainly has a very strong scent of freshness which last long after drying.

Its far from being the greasy mess other cheaper brands tend to be. Its not too thick and nor is it too running so the consistency is just right. It lathers up a treat once used and provides a cleansing fresh feel to the body and hair. It leaves a clean feeling all over.

However, one thing I don't agree with is the apparent "energising" quality of this product. The aroma is rather relaxing in my view and therefore tends to make me feel more relaxed as opposed to energised. It also doesn't really energise the skin and one downside I found at times was the skin could feel dry on occasions but this wasn't too much of a problem.

The scent is strong though and lasting, and it does a good clean job hence the reason for the four start rating. Certainly doesnt give the "kick start" it advertises though.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        see review

I'm trying to be economical as far as my spending goes, and in particular I'm trying to curtail my obsessive buying of beauty products and toiletries in general.

Whilst I still use a different brand of shampoo and conditioner on my hair to what my family uses, I wanted to try get the most out of my money by buying something that has multi uses; which brings me nicely onto this review..

        I saw this - Kick Start Energising (Guarana & Ginseng) by Imperial Leather -in the supermarket recently and bought it for 2 reasons;

1)It's a body wash that doubles up as a hair shampoo and is family friendly
        and,
        2)It was only £1.

The hair & body wash, as it shall now be referred to as, comes in the signature 'wavy' designed bottle that most Imperial Leather products seem to come in these days.
The plastic bottle is transparent and the hair & body wash - which is a rich, royal blue in colour - can be clearly seen.

The bottle is upright standing, and the access to the product is via the flip open lid which is placed directly on top of the bottle.

This was priced at just £1 (in Morrisons) which for a 500ml bottle was very good value, however whether this was just an offer price I don't know as it didn't state so may have a different RRP depending on where you shop.

I knew from previous experiences with Imperial Leather products I would probably be fairly satisfied with the results from this. I decided to at least try this out as a shampoo myself, though would no doubt designate it to just a shower gel.

On opening the flip open lid I was met with a 'zingy' fragrance which certainly made my nostrils sit up and take note! Though this contains both Ginseng and Guarana the first thing I noticed was very strong Ginseng scent.
The guarana was faint but noticeable and together this was certainly an awakening aroma.

On squeezing out a good 50p sized blob onto the palm of my hands, I noticed how runny the consistency was. It had a bizarre texture as it could almost be described as greasy and I did think twice about applying to my hair in case it left a film like some shampoos (*cough* Fructis - I'm talking about you!) have in the past.

On using on my hair however I was pleased this lathered up nicely, creating lots of bubbles that seemed to cleanse my hair and scalp whilst giving off an 'energising' aroma.
Once rinsed my hair felt quite nice (though I did apply some Aussie conditioner after!) and the results were a lot better than I had anticipated if I'm honest.

As a body wash this is faultless. As mentioned it lathered up immediately and turned almost creamy when rubbed into my skin. The aroma was very zesty and reminded me of Original Source products as it had that awakening effect when used.

The body wash left my skin feeling clean and tingly though on the downside slightly dry. This could be just me though as I do tend to have dry skin as my husband used this several times and said his skin (and hair ) felt fine.

Although this is family friendly I chose not to use on my two sons as they were not impressed with the scent at all and I had to agree that for a 5 and 6 year old this was a bit overpowering.

        Overall~
I was very impressed with this, as I thought I would be. This is probably more suited for taking away on holiday as it's an ideal 2 in 1 product. I will definitely buy this again for use as a body wash for myself, and for my husband as a shampoo and body wash as he was very pleased with the results. I think I'll avoid using on my boys though as it's too strong a fragrance for young children, but apart from that it gets the thumbs up from me.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A nice affordable gel, but not dissimilar enough to much cheaper brands

I just tried this shower gel and I got the strange sense that I had used it before. The problem there was that it seemed remarkably like Sainsbury's Basics shower gel which, if you have used it, you will know that the often ironically apologetic remarks they write on the bottles are wholly justified.

This shower gel, though it smells nice and seems top-quality, does not lather very well (in my water) and is insufficiently viscous - you have to use quite a lot of it to get a decent wash. I must say that my skin feels pretty good now I have used it, and I like the fragrance, but it is all too similar in texture and consistency to Basics shower gel. It literally falls out of the bottle!

You may approve of the alternative shower gel I have named, but it is nonetheless an inferior product and this one should be of demonstrably better quality. This shower gel did not last long at all, not only because it doesn't lather well, but also because it literally falls out of the bottle when you tip it up, so you may end up inadvertently pouring a load of it down the plug. The lid is also rather large, which can disguise its otherwise meager volume and seems a little unnecessary in general.

I expected a little better from a genuinely respectable brand, but I suppose it was pretty affordable. All I can say is if you want no compromise on quality or satisfaction, delve a LITTLE deeper into your pocket.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Great shower gel

I have been using the Kick Start 'flavour' of Imperial Leather for a while now because it does give you a bit of a reinvigoration. The scent that you get from it is really nice and fresh indeed Imperial Leather have called it 'energising'. The smell of the ginseng in particular is really pleasant in the morning and gives you that extra little boost to tackle the day ahead!

I really like the image of the bottle, the deep blue makes it a very stand alone fixture in my shower and I really like the look of it. With regards to the dispensation of the shower gel it comes from the head of the bottle and squirts out easily just by squeezing the sides.

I have seen this product in a few different sized bottles however I rather the 250ml bottles because they are perfect to store and maneouvre easily. At Asda they are currently £1 a bottle (250ml) and you can even get 4 for £3 which is very good!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Hair & Body wash in 1 bottle

Tescos were offering of 4 for £3 on Imperial Leather Shower Gel, as this was outstanding value for money I just had to buy some. The only problem was selecting 4 out of so many, they all sounded great.

Being woken up at 5am by my lovely puppy often means that I am not starting the day energised. I decided to give Kick Start energising ginseng & guarana hair and body wash a go.

Ginseng is a fatigue fighting and energising and guarana is a powerful natural stimulant and toner. Perhaps I should be drinking this!!

It comes in an attractively shaped 250ml clear plastic bottle with a flip lid on top. The lid opens easily but snaps firmly shut when you are finished leaving no mess. The label on the back is a disgrace. The label is a pale blue in colour and the writing is either silver or white. I can just about read the silver but it is exceptionally difficult to read what is written in white. This definitely needs redesigned.

The hair & body wash is:
          · Mild enough for the whole family
          · Dermatologically tested
          · 100% soap free
          · Skin friendly pH

The hair & body wash is a blue in colour and is clear. It is almost like a gel in consistency, runny enough to come out of the bottle though. On the back of the bottle Imperial Leather describe this product as follows "Kick start your day with a body boosting blend of energising ginseng & guarana. This hardworking, time saving gel comes alive with the humidity of your shower to clean up both hair and body"

So does it live up to its claim?

The smell definetly gets stronger once you are using it but its not too overpowering. My hair spent the rest of the day smelling like a mans deoderant which I did't really like but the smell didn't seem to stick to my body. I very much doubt that there is any real effect from the guarana but then again I'm no expert.

I propably won't buy this one again as I really do think it is maybe more of a mans fragrance than a womans.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A great value product that could quite easily make it into my regular rotation

*The best smelling, cheapest shower gel I could find! (Apologies to Martin Lewis)*

For anyone who posts over on the MoneySavingExpert forums {HISSSSSSSS - STEALING OUR REVIEW PENNIES!}, I've been cutting back on my non essential expenses in a concerted push to pay off student debt that's been plaguing me for many years. My most recent ploy has been halving the amount that I spend on my monthly Boots shop and this has led to a lot of bargain purchases.

Imperial Leather Kick Start Energising shower gel is one such purchase and I'm very pleased to report that it's a somewhat more stylish bargain than some of the odd versions of products that one picks up when cost is the main concern.

*Availability, cost and value for money*

The Kick Start range is widely available in supermarkets and high street stores that stock toiletries and personal care products. It appears to be a relatively new range as it is being marketed quite heavily and is deep discounted in a lot of the usual outlets. For example, Boots is currently selling it for £0.77 (£0.74 for the 'girls' version) and Superdrug has a similar offer on. Realistically, this is about as cheap as it's possible to buy a standard 250ml bottle of shower gel without resorting to supermarket own brands or strange concoctions from Lidl with Germanic names and a heady whiff of coconut!

It's great value for money, as a bottle will almost last me for a month showering once a day and I'd like to think that in future good value for essentials such as this may become the rule, rather than the exception, on the UK high street. Ah well - I can dream.

*Smells great, but can a shower gel really help you start the day?*

This shower gel contains ginseng and guarana, two natural ingredients that are highly regarded for providing humans with an energy boost. In fact, the last time I mentioned either of these ingredients it was in one of the many reviews for energy drinks that I've written during my time on Dooyoo! The scent is great - full of cinnamon and spicy floral notes that keep the shower gel very much in 'man country'.

In a piece of cunning marketing, the manufacturer has implied that the ingredients mentioned will help wake you up and has mentioned both of them, but never explicitly states that they will help turn you from a slobbering morning caveman into a dashing city gent. It's not strictly dishonest, but I'm not convinced that putting ginseng or guarana on your skin achieves much.

As well as this, the shower gel promises to be PH neutral, free of soap and soft on the skin.

*I'm not sure of the science, but it certainly brought a smile to my face*

Bar my concerns in the last section, this is a product that I will happily recommend to other readers. It smells fantastic, lathers incredibly well and rinses away to leave the skin feeling thoroughly cleaned and soft. In addition, the aroma stuck around for a good while, which is quite unusual for a cheaper shower gel. By contrast, the only bottle of Molton Brown I've ever used left me smelling good all day.

*Attractive packaging that doesn't try to baby you*

The shower gel comes in an attractive dark blue bottle with a ripple effect that makes it look for all the world like a little wave. The flip top cap is easy to use and suits me better than the shower gel containers which are designed to sit upside down for ease of use. Thanks, but I think I can get a liquid out of a squeezy bottle without too much effort!

The logos etc. are eye catching and fairly funky and the bottle isn't too cluttered up with text. Ingredients, marketing claims and contact details for the manufacturer are all provided and the only section of the bottle which is difficult to read (oddly enough) is the bit where they extol their environmentally friendly credentials. The bottle is made of PET and is commonly recycled throughout the UK.

All in all, this is a great value product that could quite easily make it into my regular rotation.
