“ Brand: Cussons / Type: Shower Gel / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Cleanses, „
I bought this Skin Bliss shower lotion in Savers for just over £1, choosing it as I wanted something that would double up as a moisturiser and hoped the added shea butter in this would be ideal.
First of all it features the famous Imperial Leather logo which to me signifies talcum powder and other toiletries more often found in an elderly persons bathroom. However, don't let this put you off as it definitely more suited for younger ages. It's in an upside down bottle, something very handy for getting the last bits of lotion out and looks quite modern which a curved shape on the front.
It advertises using a 'MoistureLock system' which 'helps skin seal in its natural moisture, leaving no greasy residue'. I found that the creamy formula really works leaving my skin noticeably more moisturised and softer than by using a normal shower gel. The shea butter also smells delicious!
My only complaint is that it didn't give me that clean, just washed feeling, although that's because it's supposed to be a 'rich moisture experience'.
Would definitely recommend for anybody looking for a shower lotion that primarily moisturises your skin.
I bought this recently only because it was on offer in my local Superdrug in the bargain bin section at 40p or something cheap like that, which I thought was a great bargain for a brand like Imperial Leather, so I thought I'd give it a try even though it wouldn't be something that I purposefully choose to buy.
It comes in a shapely curved bottle, with a flip dispenser on the bottom. It is designed to sit on a surface rather than with a hook to hang it up like some shower gels do. The colour of the packaging is a light creamy coffee brown colour (my bottle looks slightly different to the one pictured), it's not that attractive to me personally as it looks quite old-fashioned (I like some things old fashioned in style, but not my toiletries!), but overall the bottle doesn't look too bad with a nice feminine font and style.
It is actually called Shower Lotion rather than Shower Gel, which is quite accurate, because it is of a creamy consistency rather than a gel. I was worried this would mean that it's not foamy like a normal shower gel, but reading the description, this was not the case.
The fragrance I bought was called Glow, which doesn't really mean a lot, because it has no sparkle or shimmer to it, and if anything, the ingredients which it claims to have such as shea butter would give you moisture rather than a glow, surely?
The lotion is easy to dispense, and you can either squeeze it onto your hand or onto your shower puff, and once massaged, the lotion turns into a frothy lather which is great for washing your body with. It does feel creamy and makes your skin feel soft, but my biggest problem with this shower lotion is the smell! My mistake as I didn't smell it first before I bought it, but I don't know what it is, but I get a sort of aniseed smell from this lotion, and its not all that pleasant in my opinion. There must be plenty of other people who would enjoy it though! (although it being in the bargain bin doesn't make me think it's a sought after product, especially as it seems to be discontinued). There are some warmer smells in there too, which are a bit shea butter-like, but I find there is a stronger smell which overpowers it, and I'm not keen on the fragrance at all. I think I now know why this product was relegated to the bargain bin section, as its just not going to last as a regular item in the Imperial Leather range!
Luckily, the smell doesn't really linger too long, so once you have washed and dried yourself, you can't really smell it and anyhow, I normally put my own body lotion or oil on after showering. My skin did feel quite nice after using it, but not all that much nicer than using any other regular shower gels. Maybe other fragrances in the range would have been better for me to enjoy it more, but on the whole I wasn't impressed with this, and I am using it now, but hoping it runs out soon so I get a nicer one out!
Smell it before you buy, and only buy if you like the smell!
Cussons has been a well know family brand for maany many years, although for a longh while I associated names like Imperial Leather more with my Grandparents house than something I would use. I got a bottle of skin bliss given to me free in a promotion (always a good way to start using new brands!!!)
The smell is lightly fruity I think and you can smell the cocoa in it. Before being mixed with water I would say the texture actually feels quite like a suncream.
It does leave yours skin feeling very very soft and smooth, although I did find that on hot days when I may have been a little dehydrated that I wanted to us a moisturise as well.
When using it under the water I didn't find it particularly foamy, it was almost more like a gel face wash, with a light fluffy feeling!!! I also found its good to use in the bath (I had run out of bath cream), and despite being very diluted still has a substantial effect of smoothing and softening skin.
Who will like this product:
Those who are a sucker for a good shower product, that smells good and comes in attractive packaging.
How much does this product cost:
I got my version of this product for £1 in an Adsa promotion, however at full price this product costs approximatly £2.49, however shop around. Shops such as Savers may stock this product at a lower price.
What does this product look like:
It comes in a stylishly designed baby pink, upside down plastic bottle. The deish on the front consists of a darker pink flower and swirls. The classic Imperail Kleather logo is present, along with the slogan, 'Skin Bliss Unique Shower lotion,' as well as the claim that this product is a moisture lock.
Intrigued to see what actually makes this product as unique as it claims i noticed that it contains exotic monoi oil, extracted from the Tahitian Tiare Flower, which is renound for its beautifying and smoothing properties. This product does smell exotic with is gorgeous once applied all over the body in a hot shower. This product claims it has unique, breakthrough Moisture Lock system that gently cleanses the skin without stripping away its precious natural iols and helps skin to seal its natural moisture. It also claims that you will notice softer skin in just 5 days. I did feel that this product left my skin very soft to thhe touch and smelling wonderful all day long. Im not sure how 'unque; this moisture lock technology is however i did notice a differnce in the way my skin felt to the way it does with some othershower products, and it left skin soft, smooth and without reidue.
** About Imperial Leather **
Imperial Leather is a well known health and beauty brand which is part of the worldwide PZ Cussons group. (Who also make famous brands like Charles Worthington, The sanctuary spa range, Carex and original source). What they have been doing recently is making a huge effort to rebrand old names and aim them at a fresh, new contemporary market. Imperial Leather is one of these brands that have had a magic overhaul.
I will be honest, I have always seen imperial Leather as a bit old fashioned and boring. Being a brand that makes bath products, I remember the plain white simple soap when I was a child and the plain white simple talcum powder both in the same prestige looking red packaging. As I have got older and dare I say more conscious as to what I use on my body, Imperial Leather has never come to mind when out shopping for my personal bits. However when I came across this 'Skin Bliss' Glow shower lotion.... I was quietly impressed and sneaked one into my basket. Here is what I thought!
** What does Skin bliss Glow claim to do? What is it? **
Skin Bliss is a new product made by Imperial Leather which claims to contain 'moisture-lock' technology. This means that when you wash with the product, instead of it drying out your skin and washing away your natural moisture along with the dirt, it actually replenishes your skin with natural oils. The lotions ingredients apparently increase hydration and skin elasticity. After 5 days of use your skin should be silky smooth and radiant. So they claim! Quite a statement for a brand that is not in its comfort zone.
** So what is it like to use? **
The lotion itself is very smooth and creamy. It is a light gold, beige colour and looks a bit like runny coca butter but more flashy! You don't need much of it as it lathers up really well and instantly makes your skin feel smooth and soft. The lotion itself was not to runny so it did not fall straight off my shower puff into the water like other body washes I have tried. I am not sure how other people do things but just because it says shower lotion, doesn't mean you have to use it in the shower. As long as whatever body part you are scrubbing is out of the water then it works perfectly well! The wash itself is suitable for sensitive skin and can also be used on the face, this is great for me as from time to time my skin revolts against a new product and although I may like it, my skin doesn't. Thankfully my skin and Skin Bliss were very good friends! As soon as I used this product my skin was noticeably smoother, almost as though I had exfoliated and I found my skin was not so red and blotchy when I came out of the bath, this must be down to the moisture it gave my skin without it being greasy or sticky. I thought I would also mention that I think the Shea butter is a great bonus in this shower lotion, not only is Shea butter a natural moisturiser but it also effective at fading scars, stretch marks and blemishes as well as being a natural defense against wrinkles.
** Selling point? **
The main selling point that the company are using is the moisture it gives to the body and this in turn is meant to make your skin look healthy and renewed. I think it does this and I agree with the statement it makes although in this product I think this could mainly be down to the added Shea butter. But I think it has another great selling point.......... THE SMELL!!!!!
The smell is absolutely gorgeous! The Glow Skin Bliss is made with Shea butter which smells a lovely mix of vanilla, coca butter and even a hint of deep chocolate. It smells good enough to eat.... But I advise against eating this! The smell lasted on my skin for about an hour or so once I had come out of the bath, which isn't bad as it is not a perfume! But have since bought Shea butter cream so I can smell eatable all day long.
Price and packaging
The 250ml bottle I am reviewing is £2.29 at the present time from boots and Superdrug's, which I feel is a little pricy compared to others. Although I am sure you can look around for a bargain or offers. Nevertheless imperial Leather has really marketed this as a premium range in magazines such as Elle and Vogue so the price is to be expected.
The bottle itself is a light mix in colour between bronze and cream. With a silky touch to the packaging. It also has a small curved groove running through the bottle so it won't slip out of your wet hands. The flip lid is easy to open and close so no need to use your teeth like a bottle opener. It is rather an exclusive design, something you would be proud to have in your bathroom and it stands up so easy to store away. A thumbs up for imperial leather because the packaging is recyclable!
I really do love this product. Once I have used a shower gel or scrub I usually forget about it and buy what is on offer, but this one? This one is special and I have purposely gone out to buy a replacement once my I had finished my bottle.
My skin was softer and did look very clean and smooth. There are plenty of products out there that do the same so the 'moisture lock' technology they advertise is nothing out of the ordinary, but for me it is the indulgent smell that I rate as 5 stars. It feels as though you are covering yourself in chocolate silk. Scrummy! They have defiantly given imperial Leather a 21st Century makeover for the better.
Just to mention that this range has two other varieties... cocoon and renew. I have yet to try these but I have high hopes for them when I do.
Thank you for reading.
I don't know about you lot but I ain't half getting through all my toiletries in this heat. Like most of you I did own a whole host of shower gels etc but with showering and bathing so much more in this weather I've found myself having to stock up big time. Normally I buy stuff I deem to be excellent but of course that costs and that's ok but with showering twice a day I just want something that isn't going to upset my sensitive skin and is just going to freshen me. I still don't want to use rubbish but I just want to pay a bit less without hurting my skin and then use my extra special stuff for special occasions.
I'm not really familiar with Imperial Leather to be honest but like I was saying I just wanted to stock up on a few shower gels that took my fancy and this stuff out stuck out to me firstly because I liked the price(£1.24 in Wilkinson's) secondly because I liked the shape and colour of the bottle and thirdly because when I smelt it I really did think it smelt gorgeous!
250ml light bronze bottle with flip top opening at the bottom. On the front I'm told it's Cussons Imperial Leather, Skin Bliss Unique Shower Lotion, Glow With Shea Butter and there is like a symbol that tells me it's Moisture Locking. There's a sort of picture on the front but I can't tell you what it is as I don't know¬ On the back again I'm told it's Skin Bliss and then I'm told all about the product, how to use it, ingredients, there's a few symbols on there telling me different things i.e the packaging is recyclable, contact details for PZ Cussons (the manufacturer of Imperial Leather) and there's a bar code on it. It really is a nice, sophisticated bottle and it really stuck out to me in the shelf as something a bit special.
About The Product...
Cleanse your skin in a whole new way with skinbliss. The unique, breakthrough ultra mild moisturelock system gently cleanses without stripping away your precious natural oils and helps skin seal in its natural moisture leaving no greasy residue.
The result is that your skin is noticeably, and touchably soft after just 5 days. Not bad for just a few minutes everyday in the shower.
Glow for a rich moisture experience, containing shea butter, one of nature's best beauty enhancers used for generations for skin radiance and nourishment.
Mild enough for the most sensitive skin.
Scientifically proven moisturelock technology.
Let the shower's heat & humidity warm your skin, then squeeze skinbliss into your hand or onto a puff and smooth on. Work into a creamy lather and rinse clean.
Well I've been using this now for over a week so it can't be bad lol. I find a little of the creamy, bronze coloured liquid goes a long way and it applies on silky and turns creamy quickly. It's lovely. It feels nice and the best way I've found of using it and the most economically effective is to use a puff. It goes into nice thick bubbles that don't dry the skin out and that's a problem I usually suffer with as I do have sensitive skin.
Because it's so rich in lather and doesn't dry out the skin it makes shaving bits and bobs really easy!
The smell is that of shea butter and I'm sure I can smell a hint of vanilla and a good dollop of cocoa within it too. It's highly fragranced and best suited to those of us who really do like deep, rich fragrances rather than pink girly girls or sporty type women! lol However the only slight disappointment I have with this is that, that very deep layered fragrance once washed off (this is easy to do) alot of the smell is gone and the fragrance only delicately fragrances the skin and that is only for about an hour and then smell is completely gone.
Now me, I like to be fragranced up to the hilt so this is only my opinion and it's great if you don't want to be smelling of shower products and want to choose your own fragrances. This product certainly wont interfere with your choices.
Skin wise, yes it makes skin feel soft. Not as much as I'd like but as much as I was expecting from a cheaper product. This doesn't create miracles. If you get into the shower with fish scale skin then I'm sorry it wont cure that. It softens my skin a little but not overly so and not not touchably so as Imperial Leather reckons but it certainly doesn't harm my skin and works in this respect a little and more than alot of cheaper shower gels do. This may be reasonably priced but I wouldn't call it cheap.
I do like it as an everyday shower gel. I wish the smell would hang around a little bit more and that's my only quibble really. The most important aspect of this is that it doesn't upset sensitive skin and it really doesn't. It cleans me enough but it your overly stinky then there's better out there. This is just a rather delicate shower shower gel after-all!
The product is called glow? Not sure why as I don't glow after using this!
Recommended if watching the pennies! can be found all over the place at prices I mentioned earlier but price as I'm aware of will be going up to at least £2.29 a bottle soon.
