As part of a gift set of L'Occitane products that I received recently, one of the bottles I received was this Almond Shower Oil. Now, although I like the flavour of almonds I had never used any on my skin and therefore reading that this product was good for cleansing and softening skin I was keen to give it a go. As I was away on holiday last week, I figured that this 50ml size bottle would be perfect for my limited Easy Jet luggage allowance and therefore took it away with me. Plus, I thought with the amount of sun my skin would probably be getting a nourishing oil would probably be just what the doctor ordered for my sun baked skin.
The bottle is simplistically but classically designed in my opinion being translucent plastic in construction with a silver screw top lid. On the front of the bottle is a green and brown logo sticker which states that this is a gel which contains almond oil and is both cleansing and softening to the skin. Imprinted onto the front of the bottle the words "Amande" and "L'Occitane" add a quality feel to the product I think.
Opening the lid of the bottle, the smell of almonds hits me instantly and this is both a warm and sweet fragrance. The shower oil is a soft yellow in colour and looks sunny against the otherwise plain packaging. This shower gel runs easily out of the bottle being quite runny in consistency and therefore in trying to make my bottle last 6 days whilst I was away I had to be careful not to tip the bottle over too quickly when pouring a dollop out.
To use this shower gel, I simply apply a blob onto wet skin and rub in with my hands before rinsing. Although L'Occitane state that this shower gel transforms into a lavishing foam, I didn't find this to be the case although I can imagine that had I applied it with a water lily the results may have been different. In my experience, when applying this product with my hands I didn't find that it went such a long way unlike other L'Occitane products however the small 50ml bottle just about covered 6 days use. Having rinsed this shower gel off my skin I found that my skin felt slightly more supple and nourished which was a nice feeling when I was away as I spent a good deal of time in a chlorinated pool. This shower gel left my skin smelling soft and sweet but not in a natural way rather than being highly fragranced.
All in all I enjoyed using this product, however as a generally prefer more floral scented products it probably won't be something that I will buy again. Although my bottle came in a 50ml size this product does come in two standard sizes of 250ml and 500ml with the smaller costing around £17.50 from most websites. This is a fair price to pay in my opinion for a product which was, in my opinion, pretty average. I would recommend this shower gel for people who enjoy the smell of almonds and have slightly dry skin and for the facts I have mentioned above this product scores a good 3 stars from me.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
I first tried L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil in part of a kit from QVC, I had previously looked at it but the price really had put me off. I am so happy I got to try it though, because this changed my mind straight away.
To use this oil you need to massage it straight onto your skin, I use it on damp skin, not when standing directly under the water. There are no massive bubbles, just a very slight foam. You only need to use a few drops, unlike some other body products where you need to use loads just to feel the effect. Once you apply the oil onto damp skin, it really spreads so you can get a lot of use out of a few drops. The feeling really is like silk, you can continue to massage into the skin and it will leave your body so soft. Because of the very slight foam it is perfect for shaving with also.
The smell is hard to describe, it is not overpowering but during the day I do smell it, I do still wear perfume and it does not get in the way of this. The smell is really soft and true to life rather than a sickly smell. To me the smell is really warm and comforting. I love to use a body moisturiser but some days just can not be bothered, with Almond Oil the skin is so soft that a moisturiser is not needed.
Price and Availability

- QVC - It is available within kits which may save you money if you are looking for other items too
I know this price is so expensive and because of that, this is not the shower oil which I use all the time, I generally receive it as a gift or an odd treat for myself (received a bottle for Christmas). A bottle will last me months but this is because I do not use it every day, I see it more as a treat and will use it before big night out, hard day or after a long day.
If you get the chance to try this oil I think you will love it. It is my extra luxury/ treat when I feel it is needed.
I went to a Christmas event at my local L'Occitane store one evening earlier this week. I paid £10 for the ticket to this event and the reason I decided to go was because for the £10 you get a goody bag containing various products worth about £40 to £50 in total, so now I have quite a few new items from L'Occitane to try out. If you do want to buy stuff from L'Occitane for Christmas presents etc these events are also quite worth it as they give an extra 20% off on the evening. The one I went to was advertised in Marie Claire so keep a look out for ones being advertised if you are interested!
L'Occitane is a popular French company that makes natural beauty products. I don't buy their products too often but I do tend to receive a few as gifts and I do like this company.
I was really pleased to receive this almond shower oil in my goodie bag, as almond is a scent which I tend to really love and I do regularly use a few almond products but had never tried any of the ones from L'Occitane. Shower oil was something new for me as I use normal shower gels and creams. I was quite interested to see how the oil would be, as oils are known for being great at moisturising and softening the skin, but I was afraid it might be too greasy.
When I first used it I squeezed a few drops onto my shower puff and it created a small amount of lather when under the water of the shower. However it was quite hard to transfer the lather from the puff onto my body and there was not enough of it. I was a bit disappointed with that. However, the problem was that I was doing it wrong! You really shouldn't use a shower puff with this, as I discovered. On the bottle it tells you to massage it into your skin and it will lather up on contact with water. This is really the better way to do it. I tried again with a few drops of the oil straight on to an area of skin, then rubbed it in and found that it felt so nice, soft and silky, and did foam up a bit. This can then be repeated on all areas until you're finished. Even though I was applying more drops to each area as I went, the total amount used was still quite small as just a drop or two goes quite a long way as it is very fluid and can be rubbed out over a larger area.
The scent of this is lovely, really sweet, nutty and comforting. It is a true almond scent and does not really smell fake or plasticky. The scent lingers on the skin after showering and can be detected even hours later, but it is subtle so it is not something people will notice from afar.
Using this feels quite indulgent and I definitely would not see it as an every day shower product, but more of a treat. It would definitely be a good one to use to wind down after a long day. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and moisturised. You don't really need to use a body lotion with this if you dont have time, as it really does such a good job of moisturising on its own.
This costs £16.50 for the full size 250 ml, which I do think is quite expensive. The full size bottle will last for ages and would make a lovely treat but I would not make it a regular purchase at that price, personally. For now I will enjoy using the one I got in my bargain goodie bag.
I was given this oil as a double pack with the milk veil, and having just run out of the oil am going to put it on my Christmas list for this year!
The packaging looks great on the shelf, with a sort of vintage feel to the bottle and label and the bottle has a flip top lid which is good- As the product is very runny so minimises wastage.
It smells beautifully of almonds, and the aroma lasts long after you get out of the shower! As mentioned, it is quite runny but a little goes a long way. I only ever used it with a shower puff, so not sure what it is like without, but it doesn't lather an awful lot (enough to wash everywhere without needing to reapply to the puff though).
This is one of the most moisturising shower products I have ever used, and when I saw that I was running low on it saved it for special occasions as I just didn't want to finish it! My skin just felt lovely and smooth!
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, and the double pack with the milk veil makes a wonderful gift.
