Verbena shower gel by L'occitaine.
Who are L'occitaine?
This is a French company set up in 1976 in humble settings by a 23 year old guy who harvested wild rosemary and lavender extracting its oils and selling it initially in local markets in the L'occitaine region of Provence France. The guy then opened a shop 2 years later then finally buying a disused soap factory where he started making soap using traditional methods and adding the oils he extracted from plants. The company expanded and is now a worldwide company selling its products all over the world. The company sells beauty products the natural oils of which have been obtained from local sources across the Provence region of France and other environmentally friendly small businesses from around the world supporting small businesses. The Verbena product range includes soaps, oils, perfumes, after shaves for both men and women even candles and room sprays.
This shower gel is quite a pleasant fresh smelling shower gel for use by men and women. It is a little on the expensive side and is available in 250ml; at £13 or 500ml at £19.50. It works out cheaper buying it directly from their web site or from one of their shops.
The gel comes in a clear plastic bottle with a unique silver cap that you flip open. The label is an olive yellow colour with the name of the product printed on it. The gel is a yellow colour and is fairly thick when pouring from the bottle. This shower gel was voted as the best bathing product in the 2011 beauty awards. This shower gel has the following essential oils which give it a lovely smell nice that is fresh including from the following oils, Verbena, Orange, geranium and lemon tree.
I liked the smell of the shower gel but found that it did not really lather up very well. I like to smother myself in shower gels and get a good lather going and although it lathered up slightly it does not lather up copiously. What it does do though is leave your skin smelling nice, fresh and has a zesty pleasant smell to it. I felt quite clean after using this product and would recommend it and certainly very useful to wake you in the morning.
It is also available as a perfume which I guess would help you maintain the smell for some time after you have applied it by enhancing the aroma of the shower gel. It is also available as a shampoo, a bath sachet, Eau de toilette, body lotion, hand lotion, soap, a room spray, and a scented candle.
Would I recommend it?
Yes I would as it does make you feel clean after using it refreshing an waking you up to take on the day plus you are left with a lovely smelling skin. I would advise buying it from the shop as opposed to buying it off Amazon as you will find it cheaper to buy from the company in most cases. Although it is quite expensive I would rather smell nice than like something that should be used to clean the loo. Go for it treat yourself if you want to pamper yourself a bit. I am knocking one star off due to the lack of bubbles.
l'Occitane Citrus Verbena Shower Gel - 250ml £13 on the l'Occitane website
I received this as part of a gift set for Christmas - and after using the soap I gladly jumped into using the shower gels... The bottle was a 75 ml size - and lasted about a week with regular usage...
I received the gift set in a wonderful bright box covered on flowers and amazing foiled gold sections. Each item within the box was held in place in a cardboard 'frame' with thick a plastic cover under the lid. The soap itself was in a nice waxy brown paper with details of the contents printed on it. For the gift set itself is potentially a little over packaged but it was a gift and I suppose kind of to be expected...
The shower gel is in a rectangular bottle with a small silver top on the top of it... It has the smallest looking flip top on it - however the aperture for the gel to come out of is about the same size as others in my bathroom... On each side of he bottle there is a little leaf embossed on it, which is in my mind a lovely touch. The labels looked at first to be a kind of brown paper which I did think would wear off in the wet of the bathroom, however they haven't been at all damaged as they are well plasticized...
The gel is a wonderful lemony color that may have the slightest hint of green to it. The gel is more translucent than some other gels. On first removal from the packaging you will be met by a wonderful citrus scent. The bottle does look really nice on the window sill, and adds a ouch of grown up sophistication to may bathroom (possibly not hard as I'm a fan of bright pink plastic)...
The product is a nice consistency - maybe a little more oily than I am used to... However it still feels nice and 'clean' not too greasy... The smell is lovely and fresh, all citrusy (not at all like fairy)... It lathers well on a shower pouffe, and leaves my skin feeling clean and not at all tacky...
For a shower gel it does have a little hint of luxury to it.
**Thoughts / Feelings**
I have to admit it was a wonderful present that has been used (unlike may others)... The scent when you use the product is great. It kind of helps to clear the nostrils. It's a great way to wake yourself up in the morning, however it is possibly the most expensive shower gel that I have used. It does feel luxurious, but as with the soap from the same range the scent doesn't linger long.
As such I can't really recommend it, and for less you can find the same level of luxury with a scent that lingers longer...
Only 3*'s from me and one of those is for the little leaves on the bottle (I'm easily amused)...
L'Occitane Verbena Shower Gel 250ml retailing at about £13 I believe is available on line, L'Occitane stores and some department stores.
I was given this as a birthday present along with the daily use conditioner. I was delighted as they are not the sort of thing I usually buy myself and they look quite stylish on the side in my bathroom.
The clear plastic bottles embossed with the L'Occitane logo of a leaf (not sure what type) is strong and feels nice in the hand. It is easy to grip when in the shower. The shower gel and conditioner i have stand nicely together and the dark olive green label looks quite smart. The plastic flip top silver lid is easy to use, does not break over the time it took me to use the product and pours well. Having said this the style of bottle would not be my preferred style for a shower gel as you cannot stand it upside down and when you are down to the last dregs makes it tricky to get out when you are standing in the shower wet!
The gel itself is of a nice suitably runny consistency of a light green colour and with a strong lemony smell which is really refreshing and awakening in the morning. It lathers well and does the job well I would say. With daily use the 250ml bottle has lasted me 5 weeks which I guess is quite good.
My overall feeling about this product would be that it is a good shower gel in a nice bottle for display purposes more than use purposes. I would be happy to have it as a gift again but would not spend that amount of money on myself when many cheaper shower gels do just as good a job.
This shower gel was a present from my mum this Christmas and it has proved an invaluable aid in waking me up these cold dark mornings before work when all I want to do is snuggle under the duvet.
For those of you unfamiliar with this brand L'Occitane is a French company with its roots in the Province region. They try to use natural ingredients within their products and try where possible to also use organic products if possible. They try to keep to a minimum artificial preservatives and silicones within their goods. If you want to know more about them they have a very good website http://uk.loccitane.com. Within the UK they sell their goods either over the internet, in a few L'Occitane boutiques up and down the country and some of their goods are available via QVC.
What is it?
The shower gel comes in a clear plastic embossed bottle with a flip top lid that is easy to use and dispenses a nice amount with a gentle squeeze. The bottle has no hanging hook for the shower but this doesn't bother me as it just stands on the shelf by the bath and shower in our bathroom. The gel itself contains organic verbena which is from Corsica, an invigorating lemon oil from Sicily and a bracing grapefruit extract from Italy. This blend is designed to gently cleanse your body and the fresh fruity fragrance is to wake you up. Verbena if you are unfamiliar with it as a scent is a lemon fragrance that is said to energise and stimulates the senses to banish tiredness and stress.
The first thing you notice about this gel is the fragrance it just bursts out of the bottle when you flip the top open. The fragrance that hits me is a lemony burst however this is a gentle lemon that is totally natural and reminds me of freshly squeezed lemons or homemade lemonade rather than a synthetic lemon like washing up liquid or other cleaners. The other scent that comes through afterwards is a sharp grapefruit smell. I find the scent very invigorating which is great in the morning at waking me up.
The liquid is a wonderful yellow colour but this doesn't translate into the foam it produces which is a soft white bubbly mass. A small amount on a scrunchie in the shower produces enough lather to go all over the body so a little does go a long way. The lather it produces is lovely rich foam that is nice and gentle on my skin and has caused no reactions to my skin which is a bit more sensitive at the moment due to my pregnancy. The foam washes off nice and easily but leaves a glorious summery scent on my body that to me is reminiscent of Mediterranean lemon and grapefruit groves. The scent last at least all morning so it is great for keeping me feeling all bright and summery in these dark dismal winter days. The scent reminds me of summer so keeps me nice and awake during the day and leaves my skin feeling soft and fresh smelling after use.
As you need only a small amount I still have a good half of the bottle still left after a full month of use so I am hoping this bottle will last me a few months.
This is a great luxury shower gel and if I had the money I would buy it a lot more of this shower gel due to its glorious scent that wakes me up in the morning and lingers all day on my body. The shower gel produces nice foam that cleans and moistures the body that leaves it feeling nice and soft and clean. However at £13 for 250ml bottle it is definitely a treat item but one that I was more than happy to get as a gift this year.
