L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Shower Gel
Advantages: Gorgeous aroma
Disadvantages: None really
There are times when having a shower with an every day shower gel just won't do. Sometimes you want a little luxury whilst showering and whilst most shower gels do the job absolutely fine there are times when you want to use something a little more special. I have currently got quite a few L'Occitane shower gels which I have received either for my birthday this year or Christmas last year and I am now determined to work my way through my extensive collection to free up some space!
The shower gel I have just finished and by just I mean last night is the L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Shower Gel. I love the smell of peonies and I have quite a few items from their Pivoine range. L'Occitane use peony extract to get that 'real' aroma rather than a synthetic fragrance made up of a few fragrances, in fact they use an exclusive peony extract from Drôme. L'Occitane's Pivoine Flora Shower Gel is meant to be a gentle shower gel which will "respect the natural hydration of the epidermis".
I have a 75ml bottle (travel size) of the shower gel although the 250ml bottle is available on the website at the full price of £13.00 but regardless of the size of the bottle the packaging still remains the same. The travel size bottle is exactly the same as the other L'Occitane bottles it is made from clear plastic which is slim and cylindrical and features a silver flip top cap. The label features a lovely image of a pink peony together with the product name. On the back of the bottle there is a bit of information about the shower gel together with the list of ingredients - in English and French of course!
The shower gel itself is pink in colour and is translucent and has a decent thick consistency which is easily squeezed out of the bottle. Not too thick where you spend half an hour trying to bribe it to come out but not too thin where it is like water. It easily sticks to a sponge or shower puff making it ideal to use and not to waste. The aroma is beautiful, it is light and floral but very noticeable and of course it is not a cheap, synthetic fragrance either. This is one reason why I like L'Occitane products, they use natural extracts rather than cheaper alternatives.
As soon as the shower gel dilutes with water say on a sponge it lathers up easily into a rich white foam which is light to the touch and although not thick in consistency it carries the beautiful aroma with it. It is of course incredibly soft on the skin and you don't need to use too much to get a decent lather and scrub over your body. I think using too much of this would result in a waste as a little really does seem to go a long way and of course L'Occitane products are not cheap so why waste it? My 75ml bottle has lasted me 2 months which I think is pretty good (although I don't use it every day).
Does it look after your skin gently as it claims? Well yes it does. I do and can have sensitive dry skin and this hasn't caused any irritation whatsoever and I was a bit concerned given its aroma that it may aggravate but it hasn't at all. Instead my skin has been gently cleansed and not left dry at all. Although it isn't a moisturising shower gel it hasn't dried my skin out at all which is obviously a plus. Another good thing to note is that the lovely peony fragrance remains on your skin for a good few hours before disappearing which I really like - I also have the Pivoine Body Lotion which has exactly the same fragrance!
Overall, this is a lovely shower gel which has a touch of luxury to it but if you wanted it would make a good every day shower gel - it is just a shame about the price tag. Would I buy again? Yes and no. Although I love the fragrance and the fact that it doesn't dry my skin out it doesn't offer any moisturising properties which for me with dry skin is what I really need. I would however recommend it but can only award 4 stars.
