Advantages: Lovely floral scent, great lather, cleans and nourishes skin
Disadvantages: Slightly pricey
As most of the people around me will know, and as many of my reviews will demonstrate, I do love pampering products and therefore any smellies are always gratefully received. For Christmas last year my husband rather kindly gave me a number of different products with which to pamper myself and one such gift was a box set of five miniature bottles of L'Occitane shower gel. The bottles were rather beautifully presented in a pink box with shiny metallic decoration (anyone who has bought L'Occitane gift sets will understand that their packaging is second to none in my opinion) and inside lay the five different shower gel options one of which was this 'Piovine Flora'.
~Packaging and Product~
This shower gel is prettily presented in a translucent plastic bottle which has the L'Occitane logo imprinted into both the back and front topped with a shiny silver lid. A label wraps around the body of the bottle and is illustrated with a pink flower and an italic font stating that this shower gel is part of the Piovine Flora range. Around the back of the bottle is written a couple of paragraphs of blurb the top paragraph being in French (of course) and we are told that this shower gel "transforms into a light foam that gently cleanses the body while respecting the natural hydration of the epidermis". The presentation of this product is beautifully girly in my opinion and regardless of the fact that I only have the 75ml bottle and not the full size, I still feel that there has been enough attention to detail in the bottle design to relay that this is a quality product.
Inside the bottle the shower gel sits, a pale translucent pink which matches the overall pink colour scheme. Opening the bottle is a doddle, by simply flicking open the small silver cap on the top of the bottle and just by sniffing the lid can you get a really good taste of the shower gel inside. This shower gel is a flowery scented product that contains a peony extract. The results are quite fabulous and feminine in my opinion with the overriding smell being that of peony but the combination smelling rather like a beautiful garden on a summers day. The smell is really uplifting and natural and is one that I feel would suit a number of women from different age groups.
The shower gel is nether too runny nor too thick and comes easily out of the bottle when squeezed. This consistency means that the shower gel can easily be poured in a small blob onto my body brush and lathers easily when it comes into contact with water into a thick foam.
~Application and Use~
This shower gel should be applied to damp skin either by pouring it into the palm of your hand and rubbing it across the skin or (as in my case) applying it via a body brush or loofah. Once applied to the skin this shower gel turns into a thick white foam that spreads easily across my skin and this ability to foam means that a little can go quite a long way. Upon cleaning, it is then important to rinse the shower gel off leaving my skin feeling soft, hydrated and smelling fabulous. The smell of this shower gel makes my bath time really special and as a result I have only used this product as a treat on weekends rather than as an everyday product.
My skin feels nourished, soft and smelling incredibly summery, perfect for this time of year when just the hint of sun makes me want to put my flip flops on and say goodbye to the cold winter weather.
~Price and Availability~
Perhaps my only criticism of this shower gel is that it can be quite expensive. An expense that I would gladly spend as a gift for someone, and have done since receiving my bottle buying a set for my Grandmas Birthday, but would struggle to justify for myself if bought as an everyday item. A 250ml bottle of this shower gel will set you back £13 if bought through the L'Occitane website and therefore it is definitely worth shopping around for smaller gift sets, if just get a sample of this product in all its 75ml glory.
As my first L'Occitane shower gel, I have been very impressed with this product, something that my review must surely demonstrate. It has made my bath times a real treat and has left me with wonderful smelling skin and a scented bathroom to match after every wash. This shower gel does exactly what it says only more so in that the smell is so good. As a result of the above this product scores an excellent five stars from me and I would definitely recommend and use it again when I have a few extra pennies.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
