Lush Soap 13 Unlucky for Dirt

Just recently I had a tip off about a number of Lush products that were going to be discontinued and this was one so of course I just had to go and get a chunk before it disappeared for ever. It was quite an expensive visit as a few of my favourites are going to be gone after Christmas so I am gradually stocking up before then.

LUSH SOAPS
These are not sold wrapped in paper or plastic but are presented in huge truckles a bit like cheese but in all sorts of great scents and colours. The staff cut you off a chunk, then weigh it and wrap it in recyclable paper with a sticky label to remind you of what you have bought. They do look rather splendid in the shop and very tempting as you can pick up chunks to sniff and you can even try them in the shop if you would like.

WHAT IS 13?
The soap is of a dark red colour and seems to glow a little. At Lush they have really big pieces of soap and cut off a usually square-shaped chunk for you. Some a pre-cut and wrapped so you just have to pick them up.

The soap is supposed to be anti-bacterial and so is a good one to have in the kitchen or downstairs loo as this is the place I wash my hands when coming in from the garden.

HOW MUCH?

A 100g piece of this soap costs £3.79, which I think is okay but nor the cheapest soap around I know. This is however a soap that smells good and is naturally antiseptic.

USING THIS

The smell is really quite special, not as sweet as some Lush products although it does contain Manuka honey from New Zealand which is naturally antibiotic and antiseptic, it also has oregano a great herb and then the wonderful scent of roses. This unusual combination creates a clean smelling yet slightly floral soap.It sort of reminds me of cough sweets as they are fruity yet have the herby sort of smell.

It isn't as soft and creamy feeling as some of Lush's soaps. This is a little more like the glycerin soaps you can buy elsewhere like Bomb Cosmetics but Lush don't do a glycerine transparent soap.

After using this I do feel really clean but also rather dry so it isn't a soap I really like for my whole body. I tend to use this a a hand washing soap. That is not to say that it isn't a body soap as my husband likes using this and it is quite a manly fresh uplifting scent. It will certainly remove any dirt and that includes muddy hands after being in the garden, it also leaves them smelling fresh and really clean smelling which I like as sometimes when I wash my hands after being in the garden my hands look clean but still smell of garden.

I think this would also be a good soap to use for someone with greasy skin. So if you suffer from a greasy back then get someone to give you a back scrub using this and I am convinced the ingredients will work to help that problem.

I also find it is great soap for a shower when you are hot if we ever get really hot weather as it leaves you smelling fresh and free from any residual sweaty smells. I also love using this on my feet when they are hot and sweaty and tired after a long day on my feet. This refreshes them and leaves them clean and fresh smelling and the oregano seems to make them feel cooler too as well as leaving a fresh slightly herbal scent

I really love the unusual scent in the soap and find it great for the purposes I have outlined about but I would say if you have very sensitive skin or very dry skin then it might not be a good one to buy. I would certainly avoid using it on your body if you have dry skin. For hands and feet it is really great though so don't discount it altogether.

The soap doesn't lather very much and certainly doesn't have that lovely soft luxurious feel that some of Lush's soaps have but it does clean well and leaves my hands smelling fresh and free of any lingering nasty cooking or gardening smells.

I find this is quite a solid soap and not one that dissolves when left and so it does last pretty well for me. My husband uses this and I also use it for my hands and feet and 100g will give us a month to six weeks of use and we bath twice daily and wash our hands many more times but not always at the sink where this is of course.

INGREDIENTS

The ingredients

Oregano and Rose Petal Infusion ,Propylene Glycol, Rapeseed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil ,Water ,Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Honey ,Perfume, Sodium Hydroxide, Manuka Honey, Sodium Stearate, Oregano Oil, Rose Absolute, Geranium Oil, Sodium Chloride, Geraniol, Limonene, D&C Red No. 33, FD&C Red No. 4.

The two types of honey provide the natural anti bacterial properties, the coconut and other oils give the moisturizing elements of this soap. The scent comes from the rose and oregano, rose absolute and of course honey also provides its scent too.

It dies however have the less nice ingredient of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and heaven knows what the colouring is, it is probably fine but I would suggest a check if you have any allergies.

IN SUMMARY

I love the smell of this soap it is ne of those unisex smells that suits both sexes and it is also great for it natural anti bacterial properties and it not only is ant bacterial but also smells really clean. It kills all those nasty kitchen smells like onion and raw meat when you have been cooking. It is also great for washing hands after working in the garden or even doing house cleaning as it really gets rid of nasty odours and leaves your skin smelling fresh and clean. I do really recommend this as a thorough cleansing soap but you may need a hand cream or body lotion after using it as I find it a touch drying.

I am really sad that Lush are going to discontinue selling this in their shops as it does a great job of cleaning as I have described in my review with those limitations I mentioned.

Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
