Advantages: Moisturising, helps firm thighs incredibly, exfoliates well
Disadvantages: Has a slightly medicinal smell
I am all for using natural products, and that's when I discovered Lush. The natural cosmetics shop, specialising in selling bath and body cosmetics using all good things natural without the need of animal testing.
Before I had gotten completely addicted, I had heard a lot about the Buffy body butter. Specifically for use after a shower, to exfoliate, moisturise and firm thighs, backsides and other places where cellulite or stretch marks can attack.
I had been putting on weight in a short amount of time and felt the crinkles on my thighs and thought 'oh god, no.' However when I heard of this little beauty, I knew I must try it.
They come wrapped neatly in the trademark Lush paper, and come in sizes of 90g for £3.75, and 200g (Buffy The Big Backside Slayer) for £8.75. I opted for the 90g bar.
Upon opening the packet which it is wrapped in, i can smell the fragrance of almonds and a slightly medicinal smell. Some may find this unpleasant, some may enjoy it greatly. I am indifferent to it, but it is not what i would have preffered it to smell like.
Reading the ingredients list it contains: Cocoa butter, shea butter, ground almonds, ground rice, ground aduki beans, lavendar oil, lemon oil, citral, limonene, perfume and linalool.
One thing to note about this product is that since it does contain butters and oils, it is advisable to keep this in a cool place as it is designed to melt at body temperature. I once left mine on the bathroom windowsill in the summer and it turned to liquid! So be very careful.
When using the Buffy body butter, it is also advised to use it after cleaning with soap, as this is not a soap, but an exfoliator and moisturiser.
After I had finished washing I switched the shower off and rubbedthis into my thighs, backside and arms, as they can get very dry sometimes. The first thing I noticed was how quickly the butters melt onto your skin, so it might be an idea to cut up your Buffy bar into say 4 smaller cubes, in case you are worried of any wastage.
I rubbed the ground almonds, rice, aduki beans and butters into my skin and it felt like the best moisturiser/exfoliator you could ever imagine! As i washed it off under the shower, the water was beading off my skin, it was that moisturised! (but not to the point of being greasy mind you)
After drying off, my skin felt extremely smoothe and clean. And the exfoliating properties of the Buffy could definitely be felt!
Out of the body butters range at Lush, this one is probably the best for people who like to have the moisturising benefits without the exfoliation being too harsh on their skin.
My Buffy (90g) lasted me for about 6 weeks, getting about 12 uses out of it altogether.
I have also noticed since using it, it is the ONLY product i have found that actually firms my thighs and backside where i have stretchmarks, without them having that 'crinkly' feeling.
Buffy is also ideal for use after leg-shaving and leaves them super smoothe and gets rid of all the old top layer of skin. The moisturusing properties are extremely soothing also.
Even after stepping out of the shower, there is no need for body lotion after using Buffy, since it moisturises so well. It is ideal if you are in a rush, but want to feel your best!
I recommend this if you have very dry skin, are looking for a good moisturiser without the use of body lotion, need to firm up your thighs or backside without all those synthetic creams, and are looking for gentle exfoliation.
I actually really can't say anything bad about this product, since it meets all my expectations and much more, however as I mentioned before, the scent is something you may want to check out first before you buy.
