Lush Figs & Leaves Soap
Advantages: Exfoliating and nourishing
Since Christmas (the dreaded c word!!) I have been trying to use up my 10% gift vouchers that I received in my Lush gift boxes. I have tried to use them when I have bought quite a lot of stuff to get the most of the 10% rather than use it on just one item. One of my favourite soaps that Lush create is Figs and Leaves purely due to its soft, sweet floral fragrance which when you initially look at it the fragrance is quite surprising as you expect quite an earth aroma.
Figs and Leaves isn't one of Lush's soaps which stands out from the crowd. Compared to some of the soaps it shares its shelf with, the pink, the fruity and the glittery Figs and Leaves looks quite plain and boring with its leafy topping and its dingy cream colour but actually this bar should not be passed by without a second glance!
Figs and Leaves has a base of rapeseed oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil which has replaced the use of palm oil due to its instability. Glycerine is a great moisturiser due to it having humectant properties. Aloe vera extract has been used for centuries and is well known for its calming and soothing properties for the skin, leaving well balanced skin. Aloe vera gel is also used, obviously it has the same properties as the extract, it's just an extra ingredient to help soothe skin. Lush use a fig dedcoction (boiling figs in water) as it helps to exfoliate the skin and cleanse with its fruit enzymes. This bar is not just moisturising but it's also soothing and exfoliating which makes it one of Lush's best soaps In mu opinion.
Figs and Leaves has a wonderful floral aroma which is made up only a few ingredients. The fragrance for me is one of the main reasons why I buy this soap as it is so lovely and manages to stay put on your skin for hours after you have used it. Ylang ylang is one of the main fragrances which is notable due to being quite heavy but sweet, it has great uplifting properties which help relieve tension and stress. Ylang ylang is also great at softening the skin. Apart from Lush's secret perfume that they use they also add orange flower absolute in Figs and Leaves which gives the intense floral aroma to this soap. Although intense once it is combined with other ingredients it does soften slightly so you are not struck with a toxic aroma!
As I said above this soap isn't just any old soap it has great exfoliating properties thanks for the delicate fig seeds which help scrub off all those dead skin cells and unwanted dirt. It manages to exfoliate softly unlike some other exfoliating products on the market which end up being quite scratchy and take the top layer of your skin off! To top this soap off is the amount of lather that it produces. I use it on a sponge and immediately after rubbing it on the sponge a few times I am surrounded by mountains of a soft white lather which glides onto the skin leaving your skin feeling baby soft. Best of all is when you have finally dragged yourself away from the rich lather and gorgeous fragrance and have dried off your skin feels soft and after a few uses your skin is even softer and looks a bit healthier too! I find this soap great for me as it soothes the skin as well especially at the moment when my skin is so up and down due to pregnancy, it's hard to get a balance.
Figs and Leaves doesn't seem to be a fast melting soap which is obviously a good thing as you get quite a lot of use from just one bar making those pennies go a tad further. Its not one of Lush's most expensive soaps either which is obviously a good thing but I think it is one of the best soaps Lush make and possibly on the market.. Your body is buffed, exfoliated, cleansed, calmed and moisturised all in one go!
What Lush says:
"The pure, innocent ylang and orange blossom one. Figs are wonderfully nutritious and good for your body, and their little brown seeds make a good exfoliating medium. But it's the scent which draws people to it: floral, with an undertone of eastern exoticism and definitely one for the girls; but even boys have been drawn to its intoxicating aroma, too."
