Lush Flying Fox Shower Gel
Advantages: Great long-lasting scent
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
After falling in love with the scent of the ‘Godiva’ shampoo bar I decided to go into Lush to find a similar smelling product in the form of a shower gel. After rummaging through the array of brightly coloured bottles I came across ‘Flying Fox’ (‘a lascivious, licentious, vivacious and insatiable Sex-Appeal Honey Shower Gel with masses of Jasmine’). After smelling it I was converted; it had the musky, exotic smell of ‘Godiva’ and was absolutely gorgeous.
The scent of ‘Flying Fox’ is completely distinguishable and lovely. The most powerful smell you get is jasmine, a sweet, spicy and sexy scent that lingers long after you have used it. ‘Flying Fox’ also contains a subtle aroma of honey which gives it a sweet smell. There is also a distinct wiff of Ylang Ylang, which gives it a warm and alluring appeal. When you first use the shower gel you may think ‘Wow, this is too strong’, but after it is washed off you’re left with a subtle, lingering fragrance. You can use ‘Flying Fox’ all year round, but it is especially effective in the summer as the scent is quite exotic and reminds me of the Middle-East.
‘Flying Fox’ is great for giving moisture to normal to dry skins. The honey is also really good for soothing skin and is ideal for taking on holiday when your skin has suffered too much sun. It is also a really good cleanser. Simply squirt onto a sponge and use all over to get rich foam. If you are going out and want a really long lasting scent, slather all over your skin, leave on for five minutes and wash off; I swear you will have a trail of jasmine following you all night. The actual product is very concentrated and made from natural ingredients, with no chemical fillers like you would find in other shower gels, so you only need a small amount each time you use it. I usually get the 100g and it lasts me 3-4 weeks.
Okay, the packaging may not be the most extravagant you have ever seen but this may have something to do with the ethos of Lush; no frills, just great products. ‘Flying Fox’ comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a black label with its name, description (‘The Sex-Appeal Honey Shower Gel’) and ingredients (see below). The bottle also contains a label telling you who has made the gel, the date they did so and when it should be used by. It is important to use ‘Flying Fox’ by its used-by date as the natural ingredients become less efficient over time. The colour of the actual gel is a striking orange which makes it striking and distinguishable in the bathroom.
The ingredients are natural and great for people with sensitive skin.
Honey (Mel), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Chinese Angelica, Burdock Root and Jasmine Flower Infusion (Angelica sinensis, Arctium lappa and Jasminum officinale), Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Hungarian Honey (Mel), Greek Honey (Mel), English Honey (Mel),English Honey (Mel), Perfume, Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale), Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata), Cypress Oil (Cupressus sempervirens), Palmarosa Oil (Cymbopogon martini), *Benzyl Alcohol, *Geraniol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.
* Occurs naturally in essential oils
'Flying Fox' comes in three sizes. 100g is £3.50, 200g is £6.95 and 500g is £12.50. This is quite expensive for shower gel, but it is really concentrated and lasts ages. You can purchase this product and Lush stores nationwide or at www.lush.co.uk.
Summary: A long-lasting, moisturising, shamelessly sultery shower gel
