Lush Golden Wonder Bath Ballistic
Advantages: Contains gold glitter and stars, scent
Lush Golden Wonder is one of the products only available in Lush at Christmas time. However, I am writing this review as I have only just got round to using it after purchasing one in the sale on boxing day, and they are likely to be available again next Christmas.
I wanted this bath ballistic as soon as I saw it, but as usual the price put me off buying it. I think that bath ballistics are quite expensive, usually costing around £3 for one from Lush, and you can only get one use out of them. I much prefer the bubble bars as they can be chopped up so you can get more uses out of them and they also create lovely scents and make you bath appear pretty, like the bath ballistics do.
However, I eventually bought one on Boxing day when all of the Christmas related products in Lush were 50% off. I bought about £50 worth of products for £5, hence why I have only just got round to using this Golden Wonder one, as I have a lot to get through! What attracted me to this bath ballistic is the look of it. It is one of the bigger bath ballistics from Lush and it looked very pretty, as well as smelt gorgeous. I love citrus scents and in particular orange ones, which this ballistic contains.
As I bought this in a Lush store and not online, I didn't really know much about it, or what to expect from it, except for that it smelt nice. Sometimes the staff will come over to tell you what its like inside the ballistic (as they often contain a lot of surprises) and even use one in a bowl of water to show you, but I think they were too busy with it being boxing day that for once, none of the staff came over to tell me about the products I was looking at.
On the Lush website they describe the Golden Wonder as being like a pass the parcel gift: "each layer has something different to offer. This is not for a quick bath because it takes its time, this ballistic, its wonders to unfold."
~ My Experience ~
I ran my bath and as always, I got in it and then placed the ballistic in so that I can watch it fizz away around me. Some Lush ballistics can fizz away quite quickly, especially if they are only small. However, this one is quite big and took some time to fizz away completely. It actually broke up into two parts after about a minute of being in the water. The white sparkly ribbon part separated from the gold bottom half and both fizzed away quite slowly.
The water turned a lovely and quite sparkly gold colour. This didn't last very long though as suddenly shots of pink and blue appeared, which I wasn't expecting! These soon faded after around 5 minutes and the water turned a lovely blue/green colour, which is also when I noticed I had lots of little stars floating around. It really did make the bath appear very pretty and it was perfect for a night time bath.
As for the scent, I could really smell the orange straight away but I found that when the ballistic did completely dissolve (which took around 10 minutes) the scent kind of changed. It was still lovely but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it reminded me of, or what the scent could be. I have since been on the Lush website to see what they describe the scent as and it states it is 'Champagne Snow Showers' which is apparently one of Lush's most popular perfumes. They state that their long standing customers may recognise this, but for fairly new customers, which I consider myself to be, they describe the scent as a light fizzing champagne cocktail. I don't think it smells exactly like champagne but it is nice and I can still trace hints of the orange and lime oils in it, the scent just changes slightly after around ten minutes.
Now as for how it felt on my skin. Whilst I am in the bath it is hard to tell whether it has done a good job in making my skin feel soft and smooth. I have found this with all bath ballistics I have used from Lush, but it is different with the bubble bars as I can usually tell whilst I am in the bath. The Golden Wonder did make my skin feel soft when I got out, but not for very long. Therefore, I would say enjoy this ballistic as much as you can whilst in the bath, as the experience pretty much stops there. I don't believe the scent really lingered on my skin for too long either, but I am not sure if this is just because I had gotten used to the scent from being in the bath so long.
As I stated the ballistic does contain gold lustre and paper stars, but they went away when I emptied the bath and didn't leave a messy bath to clean, like some other Lush products do.
I hope this is available again next Christmas as I will certainly treat myself to one again, and this time I won't even wait until it's in the sale now that I know what it's like. I cannot remember its exact price but it was somewhere around £3. It does seem expensive considering you only get one use out of them, but it does make a nice treat.
Summary: If you like your bath to look pretty then this Golden Wonder won't disappoint!
