Advantages: Smells lovely and leaves my skin moist and smelling gorgeous
Disadvantages: The price and the dirty bath
Lush tag line for this is " Once, twice, three times a cheery cherry bath."
WHY DID YOU BUY THIS?
I bought this from my favourite Lush shop in Derby as I was told that this was one of the best sellers in Japan because of its cherry scent. I was also attracted as I wanted to try one of the bath melts and this was the biggest and in my view represented the best value as you could get three baths from the one melt and it wasn't three times the price of the other bath melts on offer.
This bath melt is half a circle divided in three slices and each 'slice' has an embossed twin cherry picture on it. The scent is shamelessly cherry rather than cherry blossom. It weighs 65g and costs £3.95 so not a cheap bath option but few of Lush's bath treats are cheap so you kind of expect that. This bar is a deep pink colour, a kind of vermillion or cadmium red pink rather than baby pink. I suppose cherry pink might be what Lush was aiming for.
When you touch this it feels silky and slightly creamy on the outside. It is very easy to break the bar into three with your hands but if you find it hard then a knife should do the trick. I think if I bought it again rather than following Lush's guide lines and breaking the bar into three I would cut it in half and then half again so that each bath cost £1 rather than £1.35ish.
Apart from trying to use good quality ingredients and making fun products Lush also write evocative descriptions to go with their creations. "You'll be blooming' happy when you step in (and eventually spring out of) this almond oil, passion fruit and cheery bath."
They also like to share the reason or story behind the creation of each product and for this one Lush wrote on their website:
"When Helen invented this bar she was pleased to finally have a chance to make something into a mould decorated with cherries. She has loved little images of cherries since her days at nursery school, when the peg she hung her coat on had a picture of a cherry above it and her show bag was embroidered with a cherry too."
I thought that was such a sweet story that someone had been so proud of their coat peg pucture at Nursery that they remembered it all through to adulthood with fondness.
When you buy this it comes with no excess packaging, they pop it in a little recyclable paper bag and that is all. The bar is preservative free so has a limited life time if you want to enjoy it at its best. The product is vegan friendly for those Vegans and of course no animals are harmed at all in its manufacture.
I broke mine into three segments along the pre-drawn lines and popped just one section in my bath. The smell immediately began to rise as the bath filled with warm water and the pink segment started to melt. The smell was fruity yet creamy and very cherry like although passion fruit is another of the main ingredients this was not as strongly passion fruit as I would have thought as passion fruit is quite distinctive.
The bath water turned the most wonderful creamy, powdery pink colour, a bit like a pink marshmallow or calamine lotion.
Once the bath was full and the right temperature for me to get into I slipped in and then lay back relaxed and breathed in the lovely creamy fruity aroma. It is not cherry like kirsch with a punch but more like cherry ice cream, delicate and creamy and sweet.
I enjoyed the feel of the bath water as despite all the wonderfully softening and moisturising cocoa butter and passion seed oil it didn't feel greasy at all while I was in the bath. I think the calamine powder must have helped create the powdery look to the bath water and this also made this a very skin calming bath.
When I finally got out of my cherry bath my skin felt really nice. It was not greasy at all but was soft and felt good, not tight at all. I dried myself off and let the bath water out. The bath was left with a lovely ring of pink around the water line and a powdery pink residue along the base of the bath.
The first time I used one my husband followed me into the bath and he let the water out. The next morning the bath was a shock. I had to rub quite hard to get the pink from around the water line and from the bottom of the bath. The next few times I used this I made certain that I rinsed out the bath and cleaned it straight after my bath. I have to say this is a bit of a disadvantage to using this as I really don't always feel like cleaning the bath after enjoying a relaxing bath, it somewhat spoils the pleasure.
The bathroom and our room next door smelled lovely for quite some time after my bath. As my husband followed me up to bed he commented on how nice the room smelled and he doesn't always notice these things as I use quite a few different scented products so it becomes a bit of a norm for him I suppose.
Apart from the exercise from cleaning the bath the actual time in the bath is very relaxing and the smell was lovely. It was nice and moisturising for my skin and the calamine was gentle and calming so any rashes I suffer from are also helped. From time to time I get really strange itchy skin and apart from antihistamine the only other thing that helps me is a bath with bicarbonate of soda and I did also try this and it also helped. This remedy is a bit more expensive that the bicarb but a lot nicer.
The only disadvantages I would say are the scum in the bath and the price which at over £1 per bath I think is quite a lot. However I do like this bar and will buy it again for a treat from time to time.

Summary: A cherry smelling bath that leaves you nice and soft but the bath rather pink and grubby
