Advantages: soothing and relaxing bath
Well, this Christmas I received my first ever Lush project in the shape of a Lush Jingle Spells Bath Ballistic. I had read tons of reviews about Lush products so was very much looking forward to trying it out. However, on first glance I have to admit that I was decidedly underwhelmed as I thought the product looked distinctly unappealing! It is greyish pink in colour and is the size of a medium sized apple. It does have a few bits of glitter stuck on though in an attempt to appear festive. They do say that you should never judge a book by it's cover though - or in this case a bath ballistic by its appearance. Also I do have to admit that it does smell lovely although I find it quite difficult to determine exactly what the smell is! It does have a hint of something citrus but I think there are other influences as well.
The yellow paper bag that it comes in does smell rather nice as well and it is even suggested that you might re-use this by placing it in a sock drawer in order to get sweet smelling socks - I might just try that!
The really exciting thing occurs when you drop your ballistic in your warm bath. Within seconds there is a huge fizzy explosion as it floats on top of the water and very soon your bath is pink and cloudy with glitter floating on the surface. This was great to watch and I half wished that I had called my daughters before I placed it in the bath. It soon fizzes away to nothing and then you are ready for your bath!
Now I tend to like baths with lots of bubbles so I was not too sure about stepping into a bath of pink/ purple water with a lot of glittery stars floating on the surface. However, it did smell lovely and I liked the feel on my skin. It was most relaxing and soothing and made me feel that I did not want to get out of the bath at all. In fact I think I could have almost fallen asleep if I had not received a visit from my daughters who were both fascinated by the unusual appearance of my bath. They thought that it looked lovely and that the glittering stars were beautiful. They then proceeded to try and catch all of these stars - so much for a relaxing bath! I somehow feel that perhaps the ballistic was wasted on me and that my daughters would have had so much fun if I had put it in their bath instead!
After my bath my skin felt super soft and tingling. Overall using the bath ballistic did make having a bath a most enjoyable and relaxing experience. Having not used one of these before, I was quite surprised to realise that the entire ballistic was going to be used up in just one bath, but when you think about it, it's obvious really. I also noticed that even a few hours later I could still smell the effects of my bath on my skin so the impact is really lingering!
Having just visited the Lush Cosmetics website, I have read that the Jingle Spells bath ballistic is really suitable for hangovers and that it contains essential oils from juniper berries, tangerine and fennel and these 'help to cleanse, restore your vitality and inject a bit of life back when you feel like death'. I didn't actually feel like that but I definitely did appreciate the effects of the bath.
I am slightly shocked to discover though, that just one of these bath ballistics from Lush Cosmetics costs £2.75 which does feel slightly extravagant for just one bath. About the same price for my usual bubble bath will do at least twenty baths for the same money. Therefore I think I will reserve my next bath ballistic - and there are many to choose from - for a special treat!
Summary: An occasional treat - especially at Christmas
