Lush Karma Bath Melt
Advantages: It is a complete glitter fest and it softens your skin
Disadvantages: The glitter will get everywhere
It's no secret that I am a complete and utter glitter fiend. In my world, there is no such thing as too much glitter. Loving Lush as much as I do, you imagine my excitement when I discovered the glitter fest that is the Karma Bath Melt.
What does it do?
When melted into your lovely hot bath, this product is designed to moisturise your skin and make it feel soft and smooth. It promises to be a feast for the senses, with the aroma lifting your spirits and your eyes being dazzling by the sparkling mass of gold glitter. Lush describe this skin softening product as a pyramid of perfume.
How does it work?
The main ingredient in this product is Cocoa butter. This is a highly moisturising substance which nourishes the skin and leaves it in a better condition. It protects the skin by forming a barrier across it which enables it to retain moisture and the antioxidants within the substance prevent premature aging from occurring.
Almond oil is also included because of its fantastic moisturising properties. It contains fatty acids which are essential for the development of healthy skin cells and soothes irritations and any inflammation of the skin. Obviously due to the presence of this substance and the Cocoa Butter, this product will be unsuitable for those suffering from nut allergies.
Sweet Orange Oil is included in order to tone the skin, making it look firmer and younger. The aroma is said to lift the spirits and relieve feelings of stress. Lemongrass also tones the skin and it has antibacterial qualities which will kill any germs on your skin. Its earthy smell is said to banish feelings of depression and anxiety.
Also included is Lavendin Oil which is part of the Lavender family and helps to soothe the skin and relax the mind. Pine Oil is present in order to moisturise the skin and relieve feelings of itchiness while its aroma helps to remove feelings of fatigue and energise the mind. Patchouli is included which is a substance frequently found in perfumes. It gives a heavy aroma that is said to get rid of feeling of anxiety and life feeling of sadness.
How do you use the product?
The product is simple to use. You drop the bath melt into the bath tub in the path of the running hot tap. The product gets to work all by itself and will begin to dissolve into the water. You can either go and do something else while the bath water is running or you can sit and watch the water turn into a glittery lagoon. I bet you can guess which one I do!
What does it look?
When I ordered the product I was really hoping that it would be every bit as glittery as it seemed on the picture. And I wasn't disappointed. The bath melt comes in the form of a golden pyramid with a flat base and it is coated with gold flecks. I was even more excited to find discover that the glitter runs all the way through the pyramid.
The product costs around £3 for 30 grams of this shimmering delight. It can only be bought from the online website as I don't think they stock it in store.
If you don't like glitter, then this product will be a complete nightmare for you. But as for glitter lovers, it is a little piece of heaven. I put one of mine into my niece's bath when I was babysitting her. Her face was a picture when she saw all the glitter and I think she'll love me forever after giving her such a treat. Her mum wasn't so happy when I returned to her with a glittering child!
As the product dissolves into the water the flecks of gold become loose and literally fill your bath with glitter. As the other ingredients begin to dissolve, the water becomes cloudy and you can't see the glitter quite as much but it's still there, glittering away.
As the glitter is heavy, a lot of it sinks to the bottom after a while and so the flecks get stuck to the back of you quite a lot. When you get out of the bath, the glitter will be stuck to you so this is a product I use before night out with girls, definitely not before an important meeting!
The glitter really does get everywhere. It will get on your towels, on the floor and on your clothes. There is also a lot of glitter left in the bathtub after the water has drained away that needs to be cleaned out. Sometimes, that's a bit too much glitter even for me so I tend to use half a pyramid per bath.
The aroma is fairly heavy and is dominantly of Pachouli with some citrus blasts and it is the same fragrance that comes with the other products in the Karma collection. This is not the sort of smell that I tend to go for as I like sweet scents and although I wouldn't want a perfume that smelt like this, I don't mind it in a bath product. As for the aromatherapy benefits, I'm not sure if it is the aroma or the fact I was sitting in a bath of glitter but I certainly felt happier when I got out.
When you get out of the bath, apart from sparkling like an entire galaxy, your skin will feel softer and moisturised. It doesn't make my skin feel as nice as some of the other bath melts that I've tried but there is a definite improvement in the softness of my skin.
All in all, you have to really love glitter to love this product and it's not for the faint hearted. The scent is invigorating but not for everyone and it leaves your skin soft but not incredibly so. I am knocking one star off for the mess it creates, even though it's a really beautiful mess. This is a treat for occasional use which you will either love or hate. As you will have gathered by now, I love it!
Summary: A glitter bath melt to soften the skin and to awaken the senses
