“ Brand: Lush / Foam / Type: Bubble Bar / Subcategory: Bath Melt / Bath Foam „
While looking at the different bubble bars and ballistics that Lush had to offer, I came across the 'magic mushroom' bubble bar. This immediately caught my attention because of the cute, fun design and it is a lot different to a majority of Lush's bubble bars as most are round rather than having a particular shape whereas this is actually shaped like a mushroom - obviously it doesn't look particularly life like or anything but by looking at it you can tell that it is supposed to be a mushroom!
I paid around £3.50 for my bubble bar and the prices vary depending on how much your particular one weighs, mine was a decent size and when I first got it it was slightly smaller than the palm of my hand. When I was picking my bubble bar I chose one that was designed the nicest as the design and shape can vary a little, some were quite deformed and squashed - not that this really matters but its worth mentioning and if you buy it online rather than in store it's worth knowing that you may not get a bubble bar completely identical to the pictures shown on the Lush website.
My mushroom when I first got it was basically two round circles on top of each other with the bottom circle being a little thinner so it looked like a mushroom stalk. The bottom is white and the top is red with white spots so it looks more like a cartoon super Mario style mushroom rather than a real one! The bubble bar is made from both synthetic and natural ingredients(including plenty of natural oils) so unlike most Lush products it is not pure natural ingredients which personally doesn't bother me.
The bubble bar is easy to use and I use it just like I use all of my other lush bubble bars- just crumble it under running water. I actually broke my mushroom apart with the white and red part separate, and used each one at different times. I got two uses out of each half, so four uses all in all for my £3.50 which I think is decent value but I wouldn't purchase it again as it is more of a novelty item than anything.
The bubble bar has a delicious smell, with the red half smelling like fresh, sweet strawberries and the bottom half having a rich, sweet vanilla fragrance - when a white and red part is used together it smells like strawberries and cream, which is a lovely scent and I find it very relaxing. I was actually expecting it to have a wacky kind of smell and actually smell like mushrooms - luckily it doesn't!
The bubble bar bubbles up really quickly and even with a very small amount the bath becomes full with big, foamy, frothy bubbles which become even frothier when I swish the water around. Because of this I find it important not to use too much as I don't like having really bubbly baths. Once I've put some of this into the water and it has bubbled up I lay back and relax, enjoying the smell. After my bath my skin always feels silky smooth but not moisturised, but not dry either. The smell does not linger on my skin for very long which I think is disappointing as I love the smell.
All in all this is a quirky, fun product but it is nothing special to be honest as it doesn't leave my skin feeling hydrated or anything and the only difference was that it felt a lot silkier and smoother. It does produce lots of bubbles though and it smells lovely, and it is also good value for money so I definitely recommend it and I am going to give it four out of five stars.
Magic Mushroom Lush Bubble Bar
This is one of Lush's bubble bars that was a limited release for a specific occasion like Valentine's day or similar. I bought one when they were around and actually took it with me on our last holiday to the USA.
This looks a bit like a Fairy Take picture of a mushroom in that it is a lovely strong reddish pink colour with white spots and the stem is a fat white one but it doesn't really stand on its stem as the top is heavy and the stem rounded at the bottom.
I do prefer the bubble bars to the bath bombs as I like the bubbly feel to the bath. The bar is actually quite a decent size and weighs about 3.5 oz. I never use a whole bar or bomb in my bath as I far too mean to use something that costs about two pounds in just one bath. I broke mine into three and made sure I got a bit of red and white in each bath.
Magic Mushroom's red top is scented with the same fragrance as Vanillary perfume and the white stem smells of strawberries. I made sure when I used it that I got a bit of each when I broke it up for my baths.
USING MY MUSHROOM
I always crumble my bars into the bath as the water is running in and this gives lots of creamy bubbles. I NEVER use a full bar as I find I get quite enough bubbles with about a third of a bar.
I used this bar while we were at Izatys in Minnesota and we had a huge, I do mean huge Jacuzzi bath in our main bedroom to one side. I decided to use the bubble bar while we were here and broke off about a quarter of the bar and popped it into the bath as it was filling.
Sadly the water here smelled so strongly of chlorine that I would have had to empty an entire bottle of essential oil into the bath to even make any difference at all so the smell of the bar was something I enjoyed as I was crumbling it in.
I also had the benefit of the scent as it was packed in our bag as it made my clothes smell nice when they were packed close to it which was a bonus.
As the bath filled I did get some bubbles and I thought initially that maybe using this was not a great idea as the water smelled so strong and the bath was so huge. However once I had the bath deep enough to switch on the jets it was a different thing altogether. The bath filled with thick foamy bubbles that would have flowed over the op had I left the jets on any longer. I was able to lie in the bath like a film star and have my photo taken being delicately and discreetly covered by bubbles.
Although the scent was a bit lost I was majorly impressed with the amount of bubbly covering I got from just a quarter of this bar so we had three other baths enjoying this bar while we were in Izatys.
Usually a coloured bubble bar like this will give the bath water a bit of colour but this was not evident as the water is a darkish colour there anyway and then the bubbles that were created covered the water completely. I did notice the next day when I went to fill the bath that there was a definite pink tide mark around the bath which came off with a wipe before I filled the bath again.
The water felt a lot softer with this in the bath. I really struggled with the water in the states we visited this year as it was very strongly chlorinated and very hard which left my hair feeling like straw. This bubble bar did at least make me feel like I could enjoy a softer water in my bath. What i should have done was go and buy some bicarbonate of soda to put in the bath which might have helped.
So this produced a wealth of bubbles and although I could smell the strawberry aroma as I crumbled it into the water the scent was not strong enough to counter the chlorine so that was a bit disappointing but not something I can really blame on the bubble bar on this occasion.
OTHER GOOD POINTS
Lush boasts that they "believe in buying ingredients only from companies that do not commission tests on animals and instead choose to test their products on humans."
Part of the benefit of the essential oils is for the scent but they are also beneficial in other ways such as helping you relax and nourishing the skin. Bergamot Oil which is found in this bar is a natural antiseptic and this helps prevent acne, eczema and excessively oily skin. This lovely fresh oil has a slight citrus orangey scent. Jasmine absolute is useful as it helps skin to heal things as well as smelling divine. Geranium oil is known to help skin stay soft and is also used in aromatherapy to help with depression.
Other ingredients included for scent and beneficial qualities are: Olibanum Resinoid, Bergamot Oil, Geranium Oil, Vanilla Absolute, Jasmine Absolute, Tonka Absolute, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume, Colour 14700 are all there for the scent and the colour and may or may not be a problem but generally things which cause allergic reactions although all essential oils have to be treated with caution.
NOT SO GOOD
Skip this bit if you are not interested in ingredients but as they are a selling point for Lush I will put them here so you can decide for yourself if this is a product full of good stuff or if it has a few not so good ingredients. I know al lot of people are not bothered by ingredients Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Lauryl Betaine which are in a lot of Lush items but many people do have problems when using products with these in them. They can cause eczema so should be avoided if you suffer.
Sodium Bicarbonate and Cream of Tartar are both not harmful nor do these cause allergic reactions generally.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Cocamide DEA are all ingredients which can cause allergic reactions so you need to be aware of them.
In short then I would buy this again as I would like to see what it smells like in normal water without all the chlorine. it's a nice novelty for Valentine's Day or similar and makes a nice gift while being a bit of fun. It gave me a lovely bubble bath possibly the best bubble baths I have ever had and I did feel soft and smooth afterwards but I would prefer more scent I think.
The cost I believe was £2.45 so a fair price if you get more than one bath from it otherwise I think it is quite a lot for one bath.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
Lush is a company who offer various fresh and handmade beauty products. They believe in reducing packaging where possible and do not test their products on animals. Lush offer a varied range of bath, skin, body and perfume treats.
Magic Mushroom is a bubblebar which Lush release as part of their Valentines range. A bubble bar is basically a solid bar of bubble bath which should be crumbled under running water in order to produce lots of scented bubbles!
Magic Mushroom is a very cute little bubble bar. It has a white stem and a red with white polka dots top. It resembles a toadstool mushroom and is very girly in my opinion. This bubble bar contains various ingredients including sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar. The bubble bar has two different scents - the stem of the bubble bar is scented with a popular Lush scent 'Vanillary'. The top of the bubble bar has a strawberry scent.
Magic Mushroom is 100g in size which is pretty average for a bubble bar. Magic Mushroom is limited edition but is released in January each yet. It can currently be purchased from the Lush website priced at £2.45. Like many Valentines products, it may be reduced to half price instore tomorrow!
When my sister was placing an online order with Lush, I couldn't help but buy a few bits for myself. I love Lush bubble bars and like to try new products. Magic Mushroom caught my eye and whilst I cannot say mushrooms are very 'lovey dovey' it did look sweet and I bought it! In true Valentines Day style, I have reviewing it on the 14th of February and I used this bubble bar last night!
I normally split my bubble bars but wanted extra bubbles so used the whole bar in one go. This is an expensive way to bathe though as a treat, I didn't mind (just this once!). My bubble bar was presented in a clear plastic bag though they are 'loose' instore. It had a lovely firm texture and looked exactly the way a magic mushroom would!
The main reason for me purchasing this bubble bar was the promise of the Vanillary scent. I adore Vanillary and often buy the solid perfume stick in this scent. I knew I was in for a treat as I tore open the bag. In solid form, this bubble bar is packed full of scent and makes a lovely room freshener before being used! The stem smells gorgeous and the Vanillary smell is very evident. The top of the mushroom had a deliciously sweet strawberry aroma - simply perfect for those who love sweet smells!
<3Getting High On Magic Mushrooms!<3
Last night, I ran my bath and once it had started to fill up, I started to crumble this bubble bar under the tap. The bar crumbled easily to form a thick paste and bubbles started to form straight away. The bath water turned a bright red colour and the bubbles were tainted pink which I thought was amazing! A few bits of the bar didn't full dissolve so I swished them around in the water and this increased the amount of bubbles in my bath.
I was out the bathroom for around 5minutes (to get my jammies and my magazine) and I could detect the most delicious, rich strawberries and cream sort of aroma filtering out from my bathroom. It filled my hallway and my fiance could smell it in the bedroom too! When I returned, my bath wasn't overflowing with bubbles like many of the bubble bars offer. I did however, have several inches of thick and creamy bubbles - foamy bubbles which looked so appealing and I couldn't wait to dive in!
My bath water felt incredibly smooth and I felt very relaxed and pampered as the bubbles floated around me. The sweet aroma of Magic Mushroom wasn't sickly at all - I would say it was more calming and soothing if anything. I relaxed for a good 30minutes and the bubbles remained thick. When it came to washing down, I grabbed a handful of bubbles and smeared them across my skin. The bubbles created a light foam on my skin which felt soft and cleansing.
After drying off, my skin felt quick smooth. I wouldn't say that the bath water moisturised my skin but I do have really dry skin. It didn't irritate either but it did leave the surface of my skin feeling softened and I generally felt like I had experienced a luxurious treat in my bath. The scent of this bubble bar lingered for the duration of my bath and quite a bit of time after. The Vanillary scent remained prominent on my skin which was a treat to experience whilst relaxing in my jammies shortly afterwards.
Can I recommend Magic Mushroom? Without a doubt - its cute, smells amazing and left me feeling pampered. Lush definitely have a winner with this one and it would appeal to many. It does make a lovely little Valentines day gift for a loved one as its quite sweet and different to a box of chocolates. I will be buying it again next year and can highly recommend it.
Thanks for reading :)
I only bought this for one reason and that's because it reminded me of super Mario and at the time I had purchased a few games and some plush teddies as well so this influenced me too add the magic mushroom to my list a long with a few other items as well. The magic mushroom bubble bar is part of Lush's valentines day special products although the shape doesn't represent anything about valentines day unless your going to drug your partner with magic mushrooms. The shape and way this is made reminds me of a child's early art work which to me doesn't make it very appealing or maybe it was just how mine arrived in the post. This has a little white stalk, a red top with white spots This is 100g so it is quite large.
Lush can sometimes give the scent away with the colours of their items, this as you might of guessed already is strawberries and cream scent, I couldn't really identify the creamy scent in this at all and it just smelt of a kind of strawberry fruity smell, it wasn't bad but when your expecting a yummy desert flavour in your bath and it just smells of a mixed fruit it is a little disappointing. As this started to turn into bubbles I noticed a lot of the scent did disappear so this actually only smelt of fruitiness in it's solid state.
This is quite simply a hard lump of bubble bath, Lush try to create products so they don't have to have any packaging and making their products such as bubble bars and shampoo bars etc this means they can have them 'naked' in the shops this is where the item is simply on the shelf with no packaging and you can just pick the one you want and they will put it ina small bio degradable bag for you. So you can use this magic mushroom bubble bar in a few ways, some like to crush this is and put it all straight into the bath,I however like to save this up and use it as many times as I can to get my money's worth out if it, You need to crush these up no matter how you use it otherwise you'll have some weird solid funky lump bobbing up and down on the water with a bit of froth coming from it. So crush this up it is very easy to do with your hands, I do mine in a container and just put a small handful of this into my bath. I only use a little bit as this does produce a bath full of bubbles so you'll be overwhelmed with the full bubble bar in your bath. Once in your hot running water this will froth up and start foaming and forming into bubbles, I can get about 3 uses out of my bubble bars.
Adding magic mushroom to my bath did make the water feel oily and luxurious which anyone whose used this will know what I mean,it just made the bath seem a little better and replenishing for the skin. The aim of this bubble bar is not just for bubbles but contains ingredients to help you relax because after all that's why we have bubble baths.
Bergamot Oil is a natural antiseptic and helps with acne, eczema, oily skin and more, this also has a slight orangey scent to it helping to the fruit smell of the magic mushroom. Jasmine absolute is used to help to skin heal things such as stretch marks and scars. Geranium oil helps to skin to stay soft and supple and also has qualities such as helping with depression by keeping you relaxed. Vanilla absolute is to product the creamy scent in the magic mushroom, this works well with the Bergamot oil as they both help to calm and relax.
This is a relaxing bubble bar and I have purchased quite a few of these over the year and for something to contain so many helpful ingredients they shouldn't just restrict this to the valentine period, being a sufferer of an illness I do anything to keep me calm and to help me relax a little which in the end does stop me getting stressed out which does make situations worse, I also have trouble sleeping, I like to use bubble bars in a bath before bed because they help to em to sleep, this relaxed me so much I fell asleep in the bath for quite a length of time. When I got out my skin was smooth and moisturised
This is only available as far as I am aware around the valentine period so hopefully it will be released again this year as valentines day is closing in on us, this is £2.95 for 100g and it is well worth the money despite the smell not being noticeable to me the magic mushroom has a great purpose and it carries it out brilliantly and I am looking forward for this being back on the shelves.
My Lush stash is rather large and I tend to only use my Lush stash when I have at least a minimum of 30 minutes to let me relax in a nice, hot bath. Therefore, with a child, horses and a job those long lasting baths are hard to come by so when they do I take full advantage and out comes my Lush bag!
Last night I was able to have a very relaxing bath due to my daughter going to bed early and my other half out for the night. My choice of products was overwhelming but in the end I opted for Lush's Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar. Now it is a Valentines 2010 limited edition and I had been bought two of them by my other half and I was finally coming around to using my last half.
Magic Mushroom is a very legal high! It looks exactly the same as the picture, a perfectly formed fungi. It has a red cap with white spots and the stalk is white in colour. It certainly looks the part and being 100g you can actually get more than one bath out of it which is even better. As they were a limited edition they could either be bought within a Valentines gift set or on their own.
I chose the Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar mainly because of its two very distinct scents. The red cap has the wonderfully nostalgic aroma of Lush's Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel (one of my personal favourites) and in the white stalk Lush have used their signature creamy vanilla fragrance which is made out of vanilla absolute which is the highest concentration of the aroma. With the strawberry scent combined with the vanilla it blends together with give the overall aroma of strawberries and cream.
To use a bubble bar you simply crumble it under the running water in your bath and Magic Mushroom is no different. It is easy to crumble and actually has quite a silky but powdery feel to it but it will leave your fingers slightly pink and once the steam from the hot water reaches your hands as you are crumbling the bubble bar it suddenly becomes like your trying to crumble dough into the bath but it is easily washed off once you've rinsed your hands.
As soon as you've crumbled the Magic Mushroom the bath water changes colour to a vibrant red which although is lovely and bright I'm not the biggest fan of sitting in coloured water. However, taking my mind off the water is the lovely fragrance of sweet vanilla. Now, I'm not the biggest vanilla fan but when it is teamed with a wonderful strawberry scent the vanilla softens and I am not reminded with a horrible synthetic vanilla aroma. Despite also containing jasmine, bergamot and geranium oils you cannot smell these and I only realised they were even in the bubble bar when I read the ingredients.
Sitting in a bath of red water actually put me off somewhat and I actually felt quite uncomfortable in the bath and couldn't relax as much as I'd have liked. The plus point was that Magic Mushroom provides a good covering of a rich white lather which is silky smooth to the touch and this froths up as soon as the bubble bar is crumbled into the water but it doesn't last particularly long which was a shame.
My favourite part of the bubble bar is the fragrance, without doubt it is lovely and sweet without being overwhelming and it is subtle enough for you to enjoy the bath without choking on such a strong scent. The aroma also lasts once out of the bath for a little while but it will soon disappear once you've applied your body lotion which was expected. After using a Magic Mushroom my skin does feel a little softer and it certainly doesn't irritate my skin either.
Overall, I really like the bubble bar and as I've now finished my last one I am slightly disappointed that I can't get my hands on another. The only downside for me was the colour of the water, now if it had turned pink or even better stayed clear (I could even copy with milky water) but I felt really uncomfortable with the bright red water and I had images of scenes from Jaws running through my head. Therefore, as much as I like the fragrance and the rich frothy bubbles it produces I would be hard pushed to buy it again.

I went into LUSH after I received a copy of the LUSH times in the post. As soon as I saw that this product was from the valentines range, I had to go out and buy it, as it would only be out for a limited amount of time!
As you can see from the image, it looks quite like a mushroom: its got a white, round ball at the bottom with a much larger, red, half circular "hat" on the top, with a few white spots - just like a toadstool! The white part smells faintly of LUSH's signature vanilla and the red part smells strongly of strawberries, similar to that of Yummy Yummy Yummy shower cream - altogether you get a beautiful, sweet fragrance of strawberries and cream. Normally, once you have smelt something quite sweet for a while, it begins to smell sickly; this product always smells good and never smells sickly. (like creamy candy)
When I used this in my bath, faint, fruity aromas began rising in the steam and the bath water turned a creamy, reddy, pink-ish colour, which I quite liked, being a girly girl. I have to say, there was a sufficient amount of bubbles, but not quit enough to suit my personal needs, but I do admit that I only used about 1/3 of the bar, when I should have perhaps used the whole thing, to get the full benefit - maybe this would have also made the fragrance a bit stronger as well. When I got out the bath, there was a slight scent that lingered on my body, all for about half an hour. This is not nearly half as much as what other bubble bars smell like on my skin. I also found out that the white part made more bubbles then the red part, but rather than have a "plain" bath, I wanted a bath with a bit of colour, so I crumbled a bit of red in it too.
I think that £2.50 is quite reasonably good for value, considering the mix of delicious fragrances and colours, also being a novelty and part of a limited edition.
Magic Mushroom is a Lush bubble bar that has been around as part of their Valentines range for the last couple of years. It's only available for a limited period either side of Valentines day each year, and unfortunately although I've always wanted to try it, I've managed to miss it the last few times it's been around. This year my boyfriend took me on an early Valentines break to Edinburgh and while we were there we popped in and I picked up one of these.
The bubble bar is shaped like a little toadstool and is pinky red with a white stalk and white spots. As with all Lush products this is handmade, so you might find that it looks a little rough around the edges. I'll admit, having only seen pictures of these in the past, think that the ones in store didn't really resemble mushrooms and just looked like random lumps. My boyfriend, however, who had until that point never set foot in a Lush store, described them as 'Mario mushrooms' so I guess it must just be me.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, Lush themselves admit that they have no idea what mushrooms have to do with Valentine's day!
Firstly, for anyone who isn't familiar with the concept of bubble bars, I think the easiest way to describe them would be solid bubble bath. You simply crumble the bar under running water and it will dissolve into a mountain of frothy bubbles.
This one is strawberries and cream scented, or so they say. I thought it had a sweet, yet fruity scent to it, but it's not one I would have identified as strawberries - although it's close. In fairness I have had a cold on top of everything else, so it could be that my sense of smell's not quite right at the moment! The bar contains Olibanum oil, bergamot oil, geranium oil, vanilla absolute, Jasmine absolute and Tonka absolute amongst other things.
You can, should you wish, break your bubble bar into pieces, but I chose to put the whole thing in at once. As soon as the water started running, lots of white frothy bubbles started to emerge and the bath water turned a delicious shade of red - at least that's one valentine's themed thing about it! The smell was lovely too and I couldn't wait to jump in.
As soon as I got into the bath I could feel the oils from the product on my skin. It's hard to describe unless you've used a Lush bubble bar before, but rather than feeling greasy (which is what you might think on hearing the word oils), the water actually feels very soft and luxurious against the skin. It really does feel like something special, and I think it's a much nicer experience than with a regular bubble bath from the supermarket. I should also add that I don't find the oils to make the bath slippy or leave any residue afterwards.
The bubbles from this bubble bar lasted the entire duration of my bath, which is excellent as I must admit I'm one of those people who likes to soak in there until my skin looks like a prune! Unfortunately the scent didn't seem to linger, and I didn't really notice it after the first few minutes of being in the bath which is unusual for a Lush product and a bit of a shame really.
The best thing about the magic mushroom bubble bar by far is the way it makes your skin feel after using it. I normally have very dry skin that can be quite rough and flaky at times. After using this, my skin felt absolutely beautiful. It was very soft and smooth and hydrated too - I even noticed an improvement to the rough patches on my elbows and knees. It was almost as though I had applied a very light body lotion - I was very impressed! Unfortunately the smell didn't seem to linger on my skin.
One of these bars will set you back £2.30 from Lush stores. I do think bubble bars are expensive for just one bath and so I only buy them as a treat - they're not something I use daily. If you break them into pieces you will get more uses from them which justifies the price a bit more.
Overall, I'd have to say I was quite pleased with this bubble bar, it's just a shame that the scent wasn't stronger. As Valentine's day has now passed this will only be in the shops for a limited time so if you want one I'd recommend getting down to your nearest Lush store fast!
This product costs £2.50 and is worth it for all the bubbles. It weighs around 100g and just like all of lushes bubble bars this is no exception to producing copious amounts of bubbles. Definatelly a quirky item that is becoming a favourite for it's cute fairytale look. Sadly it is limited to the valentines period (although it's been out for 2 consecutive valentines so may reappear next year?!) so you need to stock up if this item appeals to you. Personally I feel that the mushroom isn't too much of a valentines approach and thus appeals to everyone!
Now the fragrence is very appealling and definately a light fruity smell. It contains all the essentials a bath product should have. There is vanilla to stimulate calmness and also bergamot oil for relaxation- Perfect!! When you initially smell it there is a gorgous sweet strawberry smell however, this is followed by a beautiful vanilla fragrance. Such a delicant fragrence.
My favourite way to add this to the bath (as with all bubble bars to ensure theyre worth the cost) is to grate it using a knife into fast flowing water i.e. using the shower head which is more powerful than the tap. The water from this bath product turns a nice subtle red, so there is definately no worry about stains to your beautiful bath! As the bath is running you can smell the vanilla however when you get into the bath I the scent is very light. So if you like the scent to linger on the skin you would need a whole bubble bar if not more.
Certainly worth a go if you love lush, however if new to their products id say try one of the more popular/ longer lasting fragrenced items first
My last birthday was celebrated with a big 70´s hippie party - the full works with Woodstock sound, bbq´s and Magic Mushrooms. These were of course of the legal kind and came from Lush. My housemate gave me 3 of these as a birthday present and I can tell you that I was very pleased with them. The bubble bars looked really cute; they have the shape and appearance of fly agaric - a red and white mushroom that looks nice but is highly poisonous. Taking them out of the wrapping I was instantly in love with the yummy strawberry scent and could not wait to have a bath the very next day.
---- My experience with Lush Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar ----
To my shame I have to admit that this was my first Lush product and my first bubble bar in quite a while. I remembered using the ones my mum bought when I was younger and you always needed a whole one to create enough bubbles and colour the water. Asking my friend if this was indeed the case with my Magic Mushroom she just laughed and explained to me that I only had to crumble a bit of the bar under running water and wait for the lovely bubbles to appear. I tried it right the next day after my birthday party and absolutely loved it.
A small bit of the bar was enough to colour the water in the bath tub light rose and the whole bathroom smelled of strawberries. The fragrance is very natural and not sickly sweet as you sometimes get it with artificial berry flavours. It actually stayed with me for quite a while and smelled great in combination with my coconut body lotion - a bit like a strawberry colada.
2.25 (I asked my housemate how much they cost) pounds per Mushroom seems rather high but one will last you for several baths. I think one lasted roughly for 3 or 4 baths but I like loads of bubbles so if you are a bit sparing than me it will last you for longer.
I did not experience any skin irritations while using the bubble bar and the coloured water did not stain my white towel and bath rug.
---- Would I buy it again? ----
As a student I have to live on a rather tight budget and luxuries like bubble bars are unfortunately not very high on my priority list. As this was a present I absolutely enjoyed using it without feeling bad about spending money for "unnecessary" things. Please don´t get me wrong, I absolutely loved my Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar and enjoyed several very relaxing baths. The strawberry scent is great and makes for a perfect treat after a long and stressful day.
Lush Bubble bars are great for an occasional treat and make a great present if you are looking for something small yet cute. Have a look at your nearest Lush store and pick up one of them for this extra bit of (legal) happiness. There is really nothing to complain about this product and I did not encounter any problems while using it.
Highly recommendable if you like to spoil yourself or your friends!
Thank you for reading and rating my review!
I love Lush's bubble bars, and they're my favourite product of theirs. Magic Mushroom was a bubble bar which Lush produced as a Limted edition product for Valentines Days 2010. It cost in the region of £2.50, which is about the average price for a bubble bar, if anything slightly cheaper than Lush's main selection.
The bubble bar was shaped like a mushroom, with a white stalk, red top and white dots on it's top. It shared it's scent with their strawberry shower gel 'Yummy Yummy Yummy', although I felt that the scent was slightly nicer in this bubble bar as it was more even than the shower gel, which had a habit of seperating.
To use a bubble bar you simply crumble it under runnning water and slosh it about a little. It will change the colour of your bath water and create a mound of bubbles. I usually find that I can get 2-3 baths from an average sized bubble bar. Bubble wise you could probably get many more, but I think you do have to use a reasonable amount of the bubble bar to get the benefit of the essential oils.
I found that the bubble bar left me feeling very relaxed. The bubble lasted for the whole bath and the scent stayed in the bathroom long after the bath. My water was a shade of pink, but it didnt stain the tub once I'd exitted.
After my bath my skin was lovely and soft, and the scent very subtley lingered on me. If you'd like to enhance the scent of this product try using it with Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel (soon to be discontinued), and Strawberry Feels Forever massage bar.

I loved this bubble bar, and wished it was still available. Fingers crossed it will make an appearance again next Valentines, as it's a favourite of mine.
I purchased this bubble bar on the basis that it smells like Yummy, Yummy, Yummy from the Lush range (though it is now discontinued). It is a strawberry and vanilla type of scent and is very pretty. This bubble bar is now discontinued but can be picked up from eBay or the Lush forum. It sold for £2.25 per bubble bar when it was available during the Valentine's period this year.
I know some people like to halve their Lush so that they get more value for money whereas I am more of a "chuck it all in" type of girl. This bubble bar is made for people who like to halve their bubble bars as the stalk of the mushroom easily comes apart from the mushroom part.
When I crumbled this one under the running water (whole), it turned the water a pinky red which was pretty and made me feel quite summer like. It bubbled very well and the scent although not overly strong was definately present. It is definately a summer scent. It makes me think of drinking a strawberry drink in the hot sunshine out in the countryside. I felt that the scent of this bubble bar was slightly better than the shower gel of the same scent. Sometimes the shower gel can smell a bit chemical like but this had the scent perfect. However, the scent doesn't linger on your skin for too long which was quite disappointing.
This bubble bar left the water with a very velvet type of feel. It made me feel very moisturised and my skin was very soft to touch after the bath.
This is the perfect bubble bar for summer. It leaves you feeling refreshed and energised. And it is definately a must if you liked Yummy, Yummy, Yummy.
Every month my hubbie goes to the scrap yard to weigh in some metal and I have to go with him, as I know that when he is flush he will take me to Merry Hill shopping centre and buy me a Lush product. He knows I love the shop and have to buy something from there and this time I just had to get a Lush Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar I just had to have it as it was so cute and it was only £2.50.
The bubble bar is just like a magic mushroom you see in childrens strories, a white stem with a red and white top it was so cute I didn't want to use it but just looked at it for ages until I decided to pop it in the bath.
The scent of the bubble bar is absoloutely georgeous it smells of vanilla and this is one of my favourite scents for a bath product, the scent is quite strong but nice and lingers on your skin once you have used the bath product. It also has citrus in it but this can hardly be detected as the vanilla scent is the strongest one that stands out.
You get a 100g little mushroom for your money and the scent is adorable, the musroom is poped into the bath once the water is nice and hot and it takes about 10 minutes to disolve properly but as it does it fizzes about the bath and produces bubbles, its not masses of creamy lather but it does bubble the bath nicely.
Sometimes with the Lush products you have to give the bath a good clean after using them as some lush bath procuts have flowers in them or glitter and other nice surprises, but this one is just a nice bubble bar that disolves and bubles the water with a nice vanilla scent to the room when you get in.
The bubble bar doesn't really moisturise your skin, but it does cleanse well as citrus is good for cleaning skin, so you get a good clean and the scent lingers on the skin leaving you feeling fresh and energized after the nice hot bubble bath. This is good for relaxing in the bath with as the scent of it lingers in the air as you enjoy your soak. You can still smell the vanilla scent after you have emptied the bath to so it stays in your bathroom for a while after using it.
If your looking for a nice Lush bath product then this one has to get a healthy 10 out of 10 from me, I love it. its good for sensative skin too as I have sensative skin and it didn't irriate me in amy way.
Children will think this is a nice fun bubble bath novelty and for a present its fun and trendy. if you happen to pass a Lush shop then pop in as for £2.50 you can get a really good fun bath product.
Have fun x
I bought one of these bubble bars back in February when it was released along with a series of Valentine's Day themed products. I'm not exactly sure what mushrooms have got to do with Valentine's Day, but I guess it was an early nod to Alice in Wonderland?!
Lush bubble bars are basically solid bubble bath, and if you haven't come across them before, then you just crumble under hot running water for lots of bubbles in your bath.
Anyway, this magic mushroom bubble bar is a great buy as a gift because it looks so cute! As you can see from the picture it's a proper 3D mushroom in red with white spots. You could also team it up with a few other fantasy, witchy style Lush products and put them in a nice basket for a thoughtful present. It's like a typical fairy tale style mushroom, not too different from the red mushrooms found in the Super Mario games.
The 'bar' is not really a bar as such, and it's quite small for the price (which I think was around £2.25 but might have been more). However, I did get about three baths out of it - I was a bit stingy - so it's okay for the price. You'd buy it more for the novelty than anything else. The easiest way to split the mushroom is snapping it between top and stalk, since they are two separate parts, and then you can break those pieces up further if you want. It's nice to put some of the top in every time because the red turns the water a lovely dark pink/light red colour.
The bubble bar does smell really nice, luxurious and fresh like most Lush products, with a strong suggestion of vanilla. It's also really bubbly, despite me dividing the bar up into three, I was more than happy with the amount of bubbles. It's also lasted well; I used the final piece recently and it was a bit more crumbly than when I bought it, but other than that there was no difference.
There's one big disadvantage for me, and that's the ingredients. This bubble bar contains sodium laureth sulphate, which has been proven to be responsible for a number of skin complaints. Furthermore, it's derived from palm oil, which I have tried to stop buying due to the environmental and economical issues surrounding it. I did find that this made my skin a bit itchy, and this won't be my first choice of bubble bath sadly.
Magic Mushroom bubble bars were brought out by Lush as a limited edition product for Valentine's Day. Despite copius amounts of hinting, my boyfriend refused to step foot in a Lush store ("because of that smell"!!) and so I decided to buy one of these for myself!
As the picture shows, they are a fun toadstool shape, with the white part scented with vanilla, and the orangey red part scented with the same fragrance as Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel (which is strawberries and cream).
Priced at £2.25 per 100g product, I feel this is very good value for money. Despite being a limited edition, it was the cheapest bubble bar in the whole range, and considerably better value than some of their regular bubble bars (French Kiss at £3.85 per 100g, I'm looking at you!)
The bubble bars are designed to be used whole (apart from The Comforter and Fluffy Blue Skies, which are 200g and can be split to make 2 or 3 baths). However I have found the Magic Mushrooms can happily be split into 3 chunks and make 3 delicious baths. One third of the product still created oodles of beautiful bubbles, and the smell was wonderful. Also by breaking up the bar, you can choose the ratio of vanilla to strawberry- I tried one of the baths with only the white part, and it was vanillary bliss!
To use a bubble bar, you simply crumble it under running water in the bath tub. I give the water a good swish around as this seems to create even more lovely bubbles. They are like a bubble bath but in a solid form, so no need for wasteful packaging.
As with many Lush products, the bar contains a clever blend of essential oils which are fab for your skin. This one contains vanilla, bergamot and geranium oils, and not only does this create a really beautiful scent which lingers on the skin, but it is very moisturising and leaves my skin like silk when I finally have to drag myself out of the bath. I don't need to moisturise afterwards, which considering how dry and horrible my skin is, is really quite an achievement!
I am sad this one is a limited edition as it is a really lovely product. It is no longer available in the UK but I'm hoping this one will return to the shelves in future as it seemed very popular. I thoroughly recommend this product and if you get the chance to try it, then it is definitely worth £2.25!
I despise Valentine's Day with all my heart and soul but that still didn't stop me checking out Lush's Valentine's Day range. I chose the Magic Mushroom as I love Lush's bubble bars, it seemed a lot cheaper than others in the range at only £2.25, and it wasn't even that Valentine-y anyway - it reminded me more of Alice in Wonderland!
This bubble bar contains bergamot oil for relaxation, vanilla absolute for calm, geranium oil for skin balancing, jasmine absolute for toning and tonka absolute. The white part of the bar smells like vanilla and the top part smells like Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel, which is, as the name suggests, yummy, and strawberry-like.
I never use a whole bubble bar in one bath - there's just no point, you can get tons of bubbles just by using half or maybe a third of a bar, and then it's even better value for money. I decided to use the 'stem' of the bar the first time, and save the top of the mushroom for later.
As expected, the bath frothed up with loads of amazing bubbles! The water didn't change colour, but I didn't expect it to, as the stem is white. I had a great bath and my skin felt softer afterwards (though not so soft that I didn't need to use moisturiser). The vanilla scent wasn't as strong in the bath as it was in the solid bar, however I could still smell it, and it remained on my skin after the bath.
Another time I decided to try the top; however, when I saw how many bubbles were being created I only added half of it - meaning my bubble bar has lasted 3 baths! This time I could really smell the strawberry - I was really pleased with this as I love strawberry scents!
The top of the mushroom is red (with white spots) and I am pleased to say that the water turned a lovely red colour - not deep red like Ruby Red Slippers, but a bright orangey-red.
Would I recommend this bubble bar - Absolutely, it's one of the cheapest ones available, great value for money (especially when used for three baths), and creates loads of bubbles. Unfortunately, it's limited edition and you can't get it any more. Doh! I hope Lush bring this back next year because I'll definitely be buying it again!
