Lush Ocean Salt Face Scrub
Advantages: Easy to apply, works well, smells lovely.
Disadvantages: Can be a little harsh on my skin but then it is a salt scrub!
I am a huge fan of Lush, I have probably tried about 50% of their products at any one time when I visit one of their shops. I love that there is always something new being developed and my husband loves Lush for this too. A couple of months ago I said that we had to get through some of the half used products that we had before another visit and then finally the time came for another visit and so on our way home from a lovely holiday we visited the London Liverpool Street store. We picked up about £90 worth of stuff which isn't unusual for us actually and one of the items that we picked up was this 'Ocean Salt Face Scrub'. A 100g black pot filled with this is currently £6.75 but we received ours as part of the 'Uplifted Up Up and Away' gift set which was £24.95 for 6 different items making this just slightly cheaper than usual per item.
This face scrub comes in a standard twist top black pot and these are recyclable. If you take 5 clean pots back to a Lush store you can also receive a free fresh face mask and we always do this as we think it is a fantastic idea and it is always nice to get something for free!
This face scrub is made up of sea salt, organic limes extracted in vodka, grapefruit infusion, lime essential oil, extra virgin coconut oil and several other ingredients. I do not profess to be a buff on all the big words but I know that this is designed to treat dry, coarse skin and is should help to moisturise skin too. I do recall seeing somewhere on the packaging before buying that this was like a tequila cocktail so figured it'd probably be quite cooling and refreshing for my face.
This is a scrub so naturally it is going to be coarse and a little tough on your skin. This is the purpose of a scrub and if this doesn't interest you then this is definitely not the product for you! I tend to use this scrub in the bath rather than the shower. I wet my face and give it a wipe for a flannel or similar cloth first and then I apply this salt scrub. I am gentle when rubbing this on my face but still I end up with a red face after I have used this. I tend to scrub my face and then leave this on my skin for a good 5 or 10 minutes before rinsing it off by splashing my face several times and then using a flannel or similar soft cloth to run down my face and remove all the excess from my skin.
When using this scrub I do find that my skin is softer and smoother from the instant I wash this off. I feel like my skin tightens a little when using this but not so much it feels uncomfortable. There is a lovely scent that comes off from this and in all I thoroughly enjoy using this salt scrub. My skin is red for about 30 minutes after using this but providing I keep up using this a couple of times a week my breakout spot patch has remained clear and healthy too.
I will say that my skin feels delightful after I have used this. In all I feel like my skin has had a little battering but it comes out all the better for it at the end. Keeping my salt scrub in the fridge definitely helps as it is lovely and cool when I apply it to my face and this is ideal to use an hour or two before I am going out for the evening as my skin recovers by then and I feel like my skin is clean and healthy even after I apply make-up.
In all I will give this 5/5. Yes it is not gentle on the skin but the clue there is in the name 'salt scrub'. If it said 'moisturising face cream' then I'd be annoyed but I've used other Lush scrubs (body ones) in the past and expect them to be a bit scratchy on my face.
Summary: A fantastic salt scrub from Lush.
