Advantages: Lathers up well
Disadvantages: Scent too sickly sweet
Over the years I have received numerous Lush gift sets and a lot seem to contain one of Lush's most popular soaps, Rock Star. Rock Star is a candy pink plain coloured bar which compared to other soaps looks quite plain and boring. For me this soap really isn't one of my favourites and I certainly wouldn't go out a buy it myself. However, it would be rude not to use it when received in a gift set!!
Rock Star for me reminds me of Creamy Candy bubble bar. It has that instant sweet like scent which hits you immediately without any warning. However, this scent for me is a bit too sweet and sickly. To be fair the sweet like scent does calm down once in the shower and does become a bit more delicate but for me the initial scent of it is quite off putting.
Rock Stars sweet scent comes mostly from vanilla absolute (as well as Lush's "secret" perfume!). Vanilla is an incredibly popular fragrance and in absolute form is the highest concentration of the vanilla aroma and Lush have a tendency to use a lot of it. Vanilla isn't just used as a fragrance though. It acts as a humectant which acts as a skin barrier, preventing moisture loss.
Despite Rock Star's incredibly sweet scent it does a good job of moisturising the skin. This is owed to its rapeseed and coconut base. Lush use this base instead of palm oil as it is more environmentally friendly and it does a great job of making a good soap! Glycerine is the key product which is great for moisturising but its also quite delicate making it ideal for sensitive skins.
Despite Rock Star's sickly sweet fragrance (my personal opinion!) it does provide a great, soft pink lather due to sodium stearate, titanium dioxide as they are key ingredients to give a product great lathering potential! Rock Star gives a velvet soft lather which I have to say is gorgeous and despite the sickly scent which does eventually calm down I have managed to have a great shower with Rock Star but I certainly couldn't shower with this soap everyday.
For me, this soap despite leaving my skin nicely soft and smooth after use (I still have to use a body lotion/ moisturiser) is not one that I would buy myself. It's a very girly soap which I'm not a fan of purely due to the large amounts of vanilla absolute used. The scent comes over sweet and artificial and is certainly not an aroma with depth. However, the positive side is that it lathers up well, a 100g bar will actually last quite sometime as it isn't fast melting and it's not too expensive compared to other Lush soaps.
What Lush says:
" Pink vanilla soap for bodies and hands.
The creamy vanilla sweetie one. Here's a soap for all of us who know we ought to be attracted to sophisticated beiges and navy blues, but can't help grabbing everything pink! The Rock Star soap smells just like Creamy Candy Bath, so now you can shower and bathe with our sweet vanilla perfume."
