An item I'm glad I didn't buy myself

I had received a Lush gift set from my friend for Christmas and I've finally got around to start using some of the products from out of it. I'm not sure how much the gift set cost her but Santa's sack was available to buy in the Christmas season 2012 on it's own however as this was a gift I am unaware of how much this cost. I laughed a lot when I read what was in my gift set as the name "santas sack" as you can imagine made me very giggly.

When I opened my gift set however I didn't even know which one Santa's sack was until I took them all out the box and thought that this one has got to be it as it had rectangles facing upwards and string around the top. The overall product is mainly red but has an orange and a yellow and a small blue present and around the top of the "sack" is tired gold ribbon to hold all those presents in place

I don't usually use the lush bubble bars because I think liquids go a lot further then these do, but since it was a present I had to of course use it. I was surprised to see that mine had a blue present in it as I had only ever seen the red/orange ones but each sack is made differently and mine was slightly squashed in areas but it didn't bother me because it was going in the bath anyway!

Smelling this whole it smells of orange with an undertone of vanilla to it, it was a very pleasing sent and I couldn't wait to use it. Lush's description is:
"We've all been good enough to deserve a festive bath of softening bubbles with the scent of fizzy drinks. With tonka, neroli and tagetes this bubble bar is kind to the skin and a gift to the nose.
Even as an adult, there is nothing quite so exciting as Santa's sack, bulging with mystery delights for us - so this bubble bar will appeal to everyone."

I had used a few bubble bars before and always split them up but they never made many bubbles this this time I put the whole sack into my bath in hope it would really froth up. I couldn't of course just put this in my bath whole I had to crumple it up so it would create the bubbles, I found the sack crumpled loads but the yellow present was really hard to break up and went into my bath in chunks, I assumed this would just break up.

When I got in the bath, the bubbles were not as.. bubbly as I had hoped, considering I had used the full bubble bar. On top of the water when I had used just a third of the bar there would of been about 3 inches of bubbles covering the water, with using the full bar of this there was around 5 inches of bubbles on top of the water, some people might think this is a lot but I certainly had higher expectations so I was a little disappointed in that.

When I moved some bubbles out of the way the water was a vibrant orange colour and seeing the colour of the bath water is usually my favorite part of taking a Lush bath. I was pelased with the intensity of the colour that the Santas sack produced however I could still feel those parts of the presents that wouldn't dissolve which made it a little uncomfortable.

The water against my skin felt really soft and velvety but I could no longer detect any scent which was also disappointing for me. But I did just lay back and enjoy the bubbles and lovely water against my skin. After my bath I still didn't notice any scent on my skin but my skin did feel nice and smooth so it was a really good result in the end.

great seasonal product from Lush would recommend to all!

One thing money can't buy is a top boyfriend - one who listens to your likes and dislikes and goes beyond things he hates to do something nice for you. I have expressed my love for Lush products and my infrequent visits to the nearest store (which is one hour away from me) and he has told me on many occasion how he can't stand the shop as the smell makes him feel sick. So I was pleasantly surprised on Christmas morning opening one of my gifts from him that he had bought me a big box of varied bath bombs/melts - knowing what an awful experience he must of had going in there and knowing he actually takes notice of what I tell him!

I have just "broken" into my Lush box tonight and picked the first one I found under the sponge packaging - which was this foaming bath melt in the shape of a Santa sack complete with "present" shapes.

        **********

At first glance to me this looks like a dollop of ice cream with multi coloured flakes stuck in the top - but with a gold band wrapped around to make it look more like a santa sack - this is a nice touch and don;t think the product would look like its supposed to without it.

The overall sack is red in colour with the "presents" being orange and yellow.

At first sniff I can't describe the actual notes of how it smells but if you like Lush products in general this will be a winner - smells quite sweet and pleasant - not overpowering in the slightest. The description of the scent from Lush is that of spicy tonka and and neroll.

For use Lush advise you to crumble the sack section into the bath for masses of foam - this had me quite excited as some other products from Lush didnt foam as advertised so I was very excited to try this. For the presents you are advised to keep hold of them for your next bath time - so really in this you get two in one for your bath. Me being the greedy impatient girl I am couldnt wait until my next bath time to use all of it and used it all in the one bath.

The sack section crumbles with considerable force before it enters the warm water - and breaks up freely when you put it in the bath turning the water a deep orange colour... however the "presents" took a bit more doing and were very solid. Even boiling water struggled to break them up! I was very surprised to see just how many bubbles the sack created - and with me throthing the water up even more I can honestly say it looked like a great bubblebath, so much so I got kicked out after 20 minutes so my 6 year old daughter could jump in and enjoy it too! The bubbles lasted a good hour whilst my daughter was in there before they started to die out and in my experiance this was very surprising and I was so happy with the results.

        **********

After lasting 20 minutes in there and my daughter being in there 45 minutes we both came out smelling exactly as the product smelled before it went in the bath water - although the scent had died down on our skin it was very pleasant and made you feel very clean, refreshed and relaxed afterwards. The scent has now left my skin completely (but I am blaming this on the fact my munchkin kicked me out early!) but 4 hours on and you can still smell it on my daughter... To tell you how relaxing this stuff is I will say my daughter has trouble going to sleep and wanting to stay up when she knows she doesn't have school the next morning but after a bath of this it has calmed her right down and she has turned off like a light switch tonight. By letting my daughter have a bath using this stuff I am very pleased that Lush use little preservatives in their products (which will likely be kinder on her young skin and do less harm than her own bubblebaths!) and I also think its important that Lush are against animal testing and use fresh ingredients in their products (a nice touch is that they put stickers on everything telling you which member of staff created the product, on which date and the best before date). In terms of how my skin feels, there isn't any advertisment on this making your skin softer but I have noticed a difference in both of us and it does feel more moisturised than normal which I havent found with some other bath foams.

I do love this one and would love to buy it again but as the name states it is a seasonal product and I do not expect to see it again until around Christmas this year! Never mind I will stock up then!

Sadly as this was a gift I couldn't tell you how much this was and I can't find it on the Lush website but if its like the other foaming products it will likely be around the £5 mark.

A lovely fruity smelling bubble bar in a novel shape from Lush

          Lush Santa's Sack

I was very taken with the look of this one of the latest Christmas novelty bubble bars brought out for 2012 and bought it a few weeks ago. I have been using it the last few nights getting in the mood for the big day and thought I would share my experiences.

Lush create many animal friendly, eco friendly and fun bath and skin products which smell wonderful. I just love my local shop in the Westfield centre in Derby as the staff are just so friendly and desperate to share their products with everyone. No one is ever made to feel unwelcome in fact quite the opposite they love to chat to you about Lush stuff or other things such as my recent holiday.

Lush bubble bars usually do me more than one bath and this is no exception. I managed to have at least three baths from the outer 'sack' part of the bar and still have the parcels with a couple of baths ready used once each and still more uses to come.

          THE BAR:
This bar is not that big but is different from other bars in that it is a mix of ready to crumble bubble bar which is the sack and then two re usable bubble bars which are the gifts inside the sack. The price is £4.15 so even dividing the bar into three for the sack and then a couple each for the gifts means that each bath costs around 60p which is not cheap but luxury and treats never are cheap are they?
It is a really deep orange red colour and then there is a gold string around the sack. The two gifts sticking out are yellow/cream and a slightly darker reddish colour. Each one is slightly different as they are handmade. Some are darker and others are more squashed looking so they vary a bit so check out which you fancy when choosing from the pile on display.

          SMELL:
Or the scent is a sweetly orange like scent combined with tonka which gives a vanilla sort of addition to the smell. According to Lush description:
"We've all been good enough to deserve a festive bath of softening bubbles with the scent of fizzy drinks. With tonka, neroli and tagetes this bubble bar is kind to the skin and a gift to the nose.
Even as an adult, there is nothing quite so exciting as Santa's sack, bulging with mystery delights for us - so this bubble bar will appeal to everyone."
          ."
It is certainly a lovely looking bubble bar and I can't imagine anyone not finding this a really nice novelty gift.

          INTO THE BATH THEN:
I crumbled a third of the 'sack' part of the bar under the running hot tap as the bath is filling as that way you get a good number of creamy bubbles and the bar dissolves more quickly. As the bath is filling I can smell the sweet fruity sweet mandarin sort of scent with a creamy note too. It is supposed to smell of cola but I really can't agree with that it is really more of creamy orange/mandarin smell to me. The bath turned a glorious orange/pink colour, quite a deep colour and I got lots of bubbles from my third of a bar so in my opinion you don't need to use a full bar in one bath to get a good bubble bath that smells really nice too.

Not only did my bath smell good and look welcoming but the room was filled with the lovely fruity aroma too.

I lowered myself through the layer of creamy bubbles and into the almost orange clear not cloudy water. I then laid back and just soaked for a few minutes absorbing the luscious fruity sort smell and the luxuriating in the wonderfully soft and creamy bath water.

Okay that's enough relaxing so now I smooth the bubbles all over me and then lie back again. As I have a bath or shower in the morning and have not done anything too strenuous I am not that dirty so only use a little soap on my armpits and leg pits as my husband would say to the children when they were younger. This is my night time relaxation bath and I am in here for enjoyment rather than to get clean.

After about ten minutes soaking I get out reluctantly and wrap myself in my cosy towel. The bath still has bubbles and the water is very coloured still. As I let the water out I swish around the bath with clean water just to make sure the bath doesn't get stained and to make it less slippery for the next person following me, especially as our bath is also our shower.

          THE PRESENTS
These are re usable bubble bath bars but I do find I get less bubbles from these. Although they are a different colour the entire bar smells the same. I just put the 'present' in the water and then swished it around until I felt I had enough bubbles and scent then took the bar out and put it on the soap dish to save for its second use. You could use the whole thing in one bath if you wanted a more bubbly bath but I just enjoy the soft fragrant water and the bubbles just enough to make it a bit different.

          HOW DO I FEEL?
I feel lovely and warm and sweet smelling. I can still smell the fruity sweetness on me well after I am dry and in bed. My skin feels soft and quite moist but I do still put some lotion on my elbows, knees, hands and feet besides dealing with my face of course. I never wash my face in any of the bubble bath water as I wash it with face wash out of the bath before getting into the bath.

WHAT IS IN THIS LITTLE BAR?
          The goodies:
Sodium Bicarbonate and Cream of tartar, no problem here as we put these in food and they are added as they make the water nice and soft and so it feels creamy when you are in the bath.

Tonka Absolute - from the seeds of the Tonka tree this oil at room temperature is solid, brown and has a sweet, vanilla-like aroma.. Aromatherapists use tonka as antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory. It is also thought to treat joint problems. In this bubble bar it is mainly for the vanillary scent.

Neroli Oil - Has a gentle mandarin orange scent and is known for its relaxing properties in aromatherapy.

Tagete oil - from a plant similar to a marigold in Mexico and it is used in cooking in Peru. It is said to taste like a mixture of mint, coriander and basil and is included here for scent and is also antimicrobial and antifungal so helping to preserve products with less need for artificial preservatives.

Gardenia extract - this has a wonderful strong floral scent but is also a fine deep red colour too. It is also good for headaches and to treat irritability as well as being an anti inflammatory.

          Not so goodies:
These are less desirable sodium laureth sulfate is there to make the bubbles. This has been linked to cancer so if this bothers you then I suggest you investigate this further.

The Cocamide DEA is a viscosity, thickening and foam booster but once again there have been stories about links with cancer.

Lauryl betaine is a high foaming surfactant and seems to be a better one as it is biodegradable and apparently has a modest conditioning action.

Anyway the bar is a mixture of lovely and some questionable ingredients chiefly the surfactants which are deemed safe by the government but could cause you problems so just be aware. My step daughter cannot use these as they make her eczema really bad.

          SO WHAT DO I THINK?
So all in all what do I think? I love the smell of this rather unusual and very pretty colourful bubble bar. I do like the Lush bubble bars as they create lots of creamy bubbles that smell great and make me smell good afterwards. My skin which is a little sensitive to some things feels nice and soft after this and I haven't had any adverse effects from using this one at all..I feel I got really good value from this with around six or seven baths and this works out at a lot less than £1 a bath which is okay for a treat. It makes me smell good and also fills the bathroom and also our bedroom next door with the same lovely aroma.

So I would recommend if you are looking for a stocking gift this would be a lovely novelty for almost anyone I would say.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.

            Super festive product from Lush

My favourite store, Lush, always produce a number of exciting products at Christmas and this year was no exception. One of the most interesting products in their Christmas range was the Santa's Sack Bubble Bar.

This was designed to look like a sack, tied round with gold string, with parcels inside! The parcels can be removed and are reusable bubble bars, made from the same kind of mixture as the Rocket, Magic Wand and Bubblebeard bubble bar. The sack itself is made from'normal' bubble bar mixture.

Santa's Sack is made with tonka, neroli and tagetes oils and is designed to smell like cola: although I thought it smelled more like fizzy cola sweets than coke as such. I found the smell strangely appealing: I never thought I would want to bathe in cola! The bar is suitable for vegans, but it does contain sodium laureth sulfate: this is the ingredient that creates the bubbles, and it is found in the majority of foaming products such as shower gels, but it can cause skin irritation in some people so it's worth being aware of it.

The different kinds of bubble bar mixture should be used slightly differently. The sack itself should be crumbled into the water, a piece at a time, while the tap is running to allow the bubbles to develop. The reusable presents should be held under the tap while bubbles are produced. I find that the sack itself provides more bubbles than the presents, but I'm used to reusable bubble bars producing fewer bubbles.

The sack has a fizzy cola scent and turns the water a lovely red colour. The red present is similar, though not as strong, while the yellow gift doesn't add any colour to the bath and smells more like lemonade or orangeade than cola. I really enjoy using all parts of the bubble bar: it smells lovely and is cheery and fun to use. It does not irritate my skin, and I don't need to use much moisturiser afterwards.

Santa's Sack is a lovely, fun, novelty gift that is ideal to pop into a Christmas stocking. It's very reasonably priced and has a delicious scent. What's not to love?
