“ Brand: Lush / Bar / Type: Massage Bar „
I have been a fan of lush products for many years but have tended to stick with the bath ballistics and bath melts. Buying a massage bar felt a little bit saucy and naughty so I kept clear of that area of the shop. My boyfriend bought me one of these massage bars for Christmas 2009 and I instantly fell in love with it. I was able to purchase a few of them in the sale and still have two legs and an arm left of the gingerbread shape! The bar has a wonderful Christmas smell with Ginger, cinnamon and mixed spice. Just leaving the bar in a warm room gets a lovely smell going on! Lush suggest that the bar is best used with two people and we did try that out. Call me a prude, but things got very oily and messy! We both smelled lovely by the end of it but it seems more a "treat night" thing than part of our regular regime! However, I have discovered other uses for the bar! If you go into the lush store, while the majority of staff are a bit too squeaky and excitable, you can often find a more grounded, knowledgeable person who may have tips and ideas on different ways to use products. From my friendly local lush manager I discovered that the bars act as a very good treat moisturiser or work well within the bath. I will often grate a few bits of the bar into a hot bath and slip into the wonderfully fragranced bath or once out of my bath I will rub the bar (or get the other half to do it) over me and I am left with a lovely spicy fragranced but also some very soft moisturiser skin. It's such a shame they haven't brought this back, but the lush website has a retro section which often brings back old products exclusively online. I'm keeping my eyes peeled!
I love Lush and take great pleasure in treating myself to their yummy bath and body products. Each year there are several new releases and a special run of limited edition Christmas items. This Sexy Boy massage bar was available as part of the Christmas 2009 range, and is no longer available to buy from Lush. If you are on the hunt for one you could track it down online on the Lush forums, or eBay etc. Lush's massage bars are actually one of my surprise favourites, as they are a lot more practical than I had first imagined. I have a whole collection of them and they last for ages which makes them good value for money. The idea of massage bars is to act as a solid packaging-free product that is heat responsive and melts down to form a gorgeous light lotion to massage with. You can use these in the place of ordinary massage oils for a Lush massage experience! To prepare, you simply hold the massage bar between your hands and rub gently to allow the heat of your skin to warm the bar. The bar will then start to melt a little and give your hands a lovely smooth coating of oils to be used for the massage. If the bar feels hard to begin with and you are having trouble melting it with your hands, I sometimes find it helps to place the bar inside a Lush massage bar tin and place this on a radiator for a couple of minutes to help speed up the process. Of course the tin will heat up too so be careful and don't burn yourself! Alternatively if you prefer to go for a hot oil massage, you can cut off a small block of the massage bar and heat it in a microwave-able tub for a few seconds to heat the bar into a hot oil form - one of my friends absolutely swears by this method. Sexy Boy looks cute rather than sexy, and has the shape of a classic gingerbread man complete with smiley face and little indented buttons. The bar has a pale creamy beige colour. I find that this particular massage bar is very responsive to body heat and will melt quickly and easily. He has become somewhat flattened through usage and is now very skinny and in danger of breaking! When Sexy Boy is cold he has a solid feel with a smooth creamy texture. But when you warm him up it creates a lovely light oil that is almost clear and does not leave any marks or discolouration on the skin. This is more oily than creamy, but it is not sticky or greasy. Now you can get ready to give (or receive) your massage! Sexy Boy has a slippery oily feel that allows you to give smooth and steady flowing movements without breaking the continuation of touch, or grinding to a halt by drying out. You will only need a small amount even for a full body massage, as it spreads incredibly well and stays coating the skin for a while before being absorbed. While the massage is in progress the oil stays warm and retains heat transferred through the hands. This helps to keep the massage bar in liquid form and is really excellent to work with. Because it has a light feeling you can use this on all areas of the body, including back, neck, chest, and it even works well on my boyfriend's hairy legs thanks to the light fluid texture! If you prefer you can spread the massage bar directly onto the skin, but this would not be appropriate for delicate or hair-covered areas so it is best to apply to the hands first. I must say this is one of my favourite massage bars and I am incredibly disappointed that it was only a limited edition item. I only bought one of these last year and I save it for occasional use as it is just divine. The feeling on the skin is absolutely dreamy and very comforting and relaxing to be massaged with. It does feel oily for quite some time and I would recommend waiting for a brief while after massage before dressing again. It has not marked any of my clothes but fabrics do cling to it which can make it awkward to dress. If you don't have the time to wait for it to soak in fully, then you can dab off any excess with a warm towel. Afterwards my skin feels absolutely transformed and is given an intensive level of hydration. In combination with the effects of massage, this massage bar leaves my skin feeling firmer, nourished, and moisturised. I am left with lovely soft smooth skin for the entire following day. The massage bar has a cocoa butter base which helps to condition the skin and is the base for many moisturising products. Wait there's more! I haven't even mentioned the smell yet. If you've ever walked down a high street with a Lush store on it then you know that you can smell them as you are approaching from a far off distance! Lush are well known for their yummy smelling goodies and this one is delicious in my opinion. It has a cocoa-y, vanilla-y, white chocolate smell that is light, creamy and good enough to eat! The scent is immediately noticeable when using the bar for massage and makes for a very indulgent experience. The scent lasts on skin for hours and hours afterwards, I can still smell it on myself the following day after a night's sleep. The scent of the bar has not faded with time or use even though mine is almost a year old now. As well as using this as a massage bar, you can also use the bar as a solid body lotion. To do this, simply rub the massage bar directly onto your skin and rub the residue in with your fingertips. Once again, you will have to leave it for some time before the oils have fully sunk into the skin but it is well worth it for a deep conditioning moisture treatment or for very dry areas of skin. Remember that a little goes a long way and you can get a lot of uses out of this massage bar. As my massage bars near their end I find they become harder to work with as they often break up into small fragments when rubbing to heat up. In this case I often save the small broken chunks and use them in a hot bath in place of a bath melt, as they produce a luxurious moisturising oil which is great for the skin and leaves you smelling gorgeous. For my final word, I will just say that this is a heavenly product that is perfect for an indulgent treat. I always feel fully relaxed after receiving a massage from my Sexy Boy! It's a big shame that this wasn't re-released again this Christmas, but count yourself lucky if you managed to snag one last year. Lush are against animal testing - please keep your beauty cruelty free!
One of those Lush items which is still sitting in my bathroom from a few months ago and gathering dust in a corner. I buy a lot of odds and ends from Lush stores because they are cheap, cheerful and brighten up my bathroom. Plus, the staff are always friendly and sometimes shout me freebies from behind the counter! Mr Sexy Boy just had to be bought, who wouldn't with a name like that! He is shaped like a gingerbread shaped man and used as a massage bar. Now I have bought a few massage bars from here before and I am still unsure if I use them correctly. I treat them a bit like soap, rubbing the bar into moist skin then leaving for a few minutes before rinsing off. This chap cost a few pounds and was quite chunky, so I could see him lasting a while. When I first used him, I was not sure what to expect from teh results. I did rate the smell, which was fresh and citrus infused. I put this down to the lime extract. Massaging into the skin felt good with a soft rubbery like feeling making me quite relaxed in the bath. The cocoa butter left my skin soothed and shiny feeling, though this did subside not long afterwards. The bar was a pleasing and not overwhelming purchase. It was a treat to use before bedtime, but I would rank it above some of their other massage bars. I have used one called King Of Skin, if I recall, which delivered much more silky results. On the plus side, this smells potent and the shape is cute. In terms of price, it is fair, but maybe they could have put some little coloured bits on his face, like they do with the Think Pink bath bombs.
I only went to Lush to get some solid deodorant to try... instead I spent £20 in order to get a lucky dip gift bag! Oh well... one of the products in my free bag was this Sexy Boy massage bar. Now Lush make a point of saying that massage bars work best with two people. That's all very well, but I don't have a significant other so it was left to me to try this one out myself. At least then I could tell people that I spent Friday night in with my sexy boy ;-) This bar is very cute and looks a little like a gingerbread man. He is a sort of pale cream/brown colour and has a smiley face. He smells like a cross between gingerbread, a biscuit and a spicy cake, which at first is delicious, rich and very festive. I started off by rubbing the bar between my hands, but got too impatient so started rubbing the bar directly onto my skin. This actually worked well especially on my legs, which often get very dry. Actually, this bar is ideal when there's just you using it - the shape makes it very easy to hold even when it gets slippy! I found the bar moisturised my skin very well, but left it slightly greasy - apparently this is normal though, and you are supposed to use a towel to absorb it if it gets too much - I did this and it was a lot better. The big downside for me was the smell. At first I found it very luxurious and spicy, but after covering myself in it I actually began to feel quite sick. The smell is very strong and rich, a unisex smell (ideal when you're a couple I guess) but for me it was too much - not surprising really as the sort of scent I usually go for is Snow Fairy, American Cream or something similar! This massage bar is a Christmas special so is no longer available (you might get one in your lucky dip bag like me), but could come back next year. I won't be buying one. It did work well, but the smell was just too much. I will try and use this until it's finished, as I don't like waste. I would like to try some of the other massage bars, though.
It's hard to describe this massage bar,but boy,is he sexy! The best way to describe the scent is that it smells a bit like a really lovely, foreign chocolate with a touch of spice. The smell of it is so fantatsic, yet very subtle. It quickly caught my eye in the Lush times as it's shaped like a gingerbread man, which is cool,as I like nicely shaped things. It's a lovely, creamy white colour with a suggestion of brown. It melts really easily on to your skin and rubs in easily, not leaving grease marks or anything on clothing or sheets. I used it before bed and couldn't stop sniffing my arms, the smell was delicious. I also noticed that I was really relaxed and fell asleep almost straight away,a very rare occurance,so it's a very relaxing, sleepy smell. The only bad thing about this is that it's a Christmas product - so,if my current one runs out (or yours,if you buy one!) then you may not be able to find another until next Christmas! So,stock up on these whilst they're available!
