“ Brand: Lush / Bar / Type: Massage Bar „
I'm reviewing my little shimmy shimmy glitter bar from LUSH . It costs £4.50 on the Lush site, but mine was a present in a box of Lush goodies. Contains, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate and Titanium Dioxide, Fair Trade Shea Butter, Perfume, Fair Trade Vanilla Absolute, Clary Sage Oil, Lavender Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, *Linalool, Coumarin *occurs naturally in essential oils _____________________________________________ I was quite excited at finding this in my wardrobe last week because I wasn't even aware of stashing it there. Nor even aware I had been given it. Blame the Christmas fuss . This is a little item in the shape of an oddly drawn heart. Roughly 6cms by 5cms and about 2-3cms thick . It is a pale cream/off white colour , but due to the glitter in the bar it has an irridescent finish to it. It isn't packaged in any way and mine is just loose in the box among the other items and sponge-like rice puffs packaging. _________________________________ ***USING and MY OPINION*** This was always going to be an odd one for me to review as I'm not into glitter on my skin and THIS is just what this item is designed to give you....glittering skin. Anyway I decided to bite the bullet by roping in little Holly-dolly to join me in my experiment and she and I donned shorts in readiness. I had decided that glittery arms for a day where I'd be working in the kitchen and cooking was definitely not on, so legs it was. First, this stuff smells wonderful. At first I was unsure of it because it smelled 'foody' , as in Vanilla. Strongly. But I left the bar beside me on coaster while I was answering emails and the fragrance emanating from the bar seemed to change. Maybe from being exposed in the open air away from the box, but I began to smell other things. There is Lavender in it, but in truth I really didn't get lavender as such, but clearly it was coming through mixed with the vanilla and cocoa butter smell and the overall effect was very pleasant , yet not headache inducing in the way some fragrances are. The size and shape were just right for my hand ,and the shape is such that you can use a narrow edge on small areas like the cheekbones, or use the broader flat or rounded sides for more coverage on a large area. Handling this feels really nice because of the cocoa butter, shea butter and oils in it. It's smooth and wonderful and glides over the skin easily. I did the front of my thighs with this and then did Holly's legs and the effect is delightful. The glitter is really REALLY miniscule and because it is irridescent the colours catch the light and change as you move around. Okay, so far so good and it gets full marks for it's smoothness and glitter effect. But does it last ? We used it around 10.30am and by the time Holly was being collected at 6pm she was just vaguely glittery if you looked carefully, while mine was more or less gone. But it WAS still quite noticeable up until just after lunch, so lasted reasonably well for about 2-3 hours. However it has to be said that this stuff transfers onto clothing and furnishings. Luckily I hadn't done the back of my legs so transfer to chairs wasn't too bad, but it was there none the less and between the glitter and the oiliness I wouldn't advise using it on legs as a rule. But for adding a touch of shimmer to bare shoulders on a night out or for lightly rubbing on arms to get just a light dusting when attending an event I think this is really pretty. My skin showed no reaction to using it and nor did Holly's ,which didn't surprise me really because the ingredients are very natural or described as "safe synthetics". The delicious sweet smell lasts on the skin for at least two hours and my skin felt amazingly moisturised after using this, which again, was what I expected, considering the content . Would I recommend it ? Yes, overall I think I would. It is most definitely limited regarding where and when you can use it, but if you buy it with that in mind then you'll get something that I think will last you for ages, can share with friends, and if stored well shouldn't degrade or go off. I have stored mine in a small tin that I found and I'll be passing it on to my niece who will get good use of it in a way I never will. I'm happy to award this 5 stars because it does precisely as promised and has no nasty content or side effects. Thank you for reading ~~~myloh.
I always receive a tonne of gorgeous fragranced gifts at Christmas, and this year was no exception. One of the gifts that I received was a Snow Fairy Gift Set from Lush. One of the items contained within the Snow Fairy Gift Set was this Shimmy Shimmy Glitter Bar. Quite often with gift sets you normally get smaller versions of the actual products, however the bar in my gift set is the full size bar at 30g. The Shimmy Shimmy Glitter Bar retails in Lush for £4.25. The Shimmy Shimmy Glitter Bar is a heart shaped vanilla scented massage bar or body bar which you rub across your skin to then leave behind a delicate trace of gold glitter, shimmer and sparkle, and a gorgeous sweet vanilla scent. The bar contains cocoa butter and shea butter which melt at body temperature and then sink softly into your skin and hold the glitter lightly in place on the surface of your skin. I just literally rub the bar directly over whichever area of my body that I want to highlight with the iridescent gold glitter, normally my shoulders, arms and chest. I just need to stroke this gently over my skin and the heat from my skin then allows the bar to melt slightly onto my skin and allows the glitter to 'stick' to my skin. The glitter in the bar is an iridescent gold colour, it looks lovely on my very pale and freckly skin, and I would also imagine that it would also look good with a tan. I find that I don't get an awful lot of glitter transferred from the glitter bar, but I certainly get enough to give my skin a beautiful shimmer without being too over the top. The gorgeous sweet vanilla fragrance is subtle, but it's enough to be noticed if I sniff my skin, and it's not too much that it overpowers any other fragranced products that I may be wearing, the vanilla fragrance lingers on my skin for hours too. This sounds all well and good so far, however I have found some drawbacks to the glitter bar. The glitter does very easily transfer off onto other items, if I cover up with a pashmina or a cardigan then I find that most of the glitter will rub off before I get to my night out. Also if I'm not careful then the glitter bar can actually scratch my skin when I'm stroking it across my skin, some of the flecks of glitter are definitely very sharp. Finally the bar is actually a bit too greasy on my skin if I use to much of it, if I've rubbed a bit more over my skin to try and leave more glitter on my skin then I find that my skin has a definite greasy feel to it, less is definitely more when using this bar. Although I received the Shimmy Shimmy Glitter Bar in a Christmas gift set, it is a regular Lush product, and is therefore available year round. I'm not actually sure that I'd repurchase it though as I think that there are better products available which leave a shimmery and glittery finish on my skin.
Lush is a store which makes beauty products to serve just about every beauty need in fun and fabulous ways. Their products are unique, colourful and smell delicious and they make the process of getting ready and looking after your self more fun and enjoyable. After a recent splurge in Lush, I decided it was time to purpose a new massage bar. Those who know me, know that glitter and vanilla are amongst two of my favourite things so I nearly burst when I laid eyes on the shimmertastic Shimmy Shimmy Sparkle Massage Bar. What is the purpose of a Massage Bar? The Massage Bars have been created to serve a dual purpose. They can either be used as a massage oil or a special body moisturiser. Each massage bar created by Lush comes in a different shape, size and colour and they each serve a specific purpose but each one promises to leave your skin softer and in a better condition. The thing that makes the massage bars so very special is that they come in a solid form but they begin to melt when you hold the product. What is the purpose of Shimmy Shimmy? Shimmy Shimmy has been designed to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The extra special bit is that is coats your skin with a subtle shimmer that gives your skin a glowing radiance. And in addition to that, it has a sweet vanilla fragrance with a relaxing herbal edge. How does it work? The key to this product, and all the other massage bars, is that is contains Cocoa Butter. It is this ingredient which melts when it reaches body temperature and allows this product to work its magic. It is incredibly moisturising and is absorbed quickly by the skin leaving it hydrated and soft. It also nourishes the skin and leaves it in a better condition. Also included is the fantastically moisturising Shea butter which is one of nature's greatest moisturisers. This product is also quickly absorbed and gives a deep and long lasting hydration to the skin. It comes packed with vitamins which improve the health of the skin and the Shea Butter included in this product is Fair Trade, so you'll be helping others too. As this substance comes from a nut source, this product will not be suitable for use on those with nut allergies. The aroma of the product is created using sweet Vanilla that gives this product a depth and warmth that is truly scrumptious to all Vanilla fans. This fragrance is mixed together with Clary and Lavender Oil that give the product a herbal aroma that I would prefer wasn't there but only because I love Vanilla so much! The Clary is said to stimulate the senses and leaves you feeling calm and awakened while the Lavender is there to relax you. Some Pink Glitter is added to give a shimmer to the skin and the colour of this glitter adds a warmth to the body and gives a lovely radiance and glow. How do you use the product? The product can be a little tricky to get the hang of the first time you use it and I used to find myself getting into a right mess with them. The product works best on clean and dry skin and you need to work fast because the product begins to melt within a few seconds of holding it. I tend to use them in the bathroom where there is less chance of me touching a material. Once it starts to melt I smooth it over my skin until there is a layer of oil covering the area and then I massage it into my skin. You need to make sure that you allow the oil to fully absorb before going anyway near any material that could be stained. When you are not using the product, you need to store the bar somewhere cool and dry so that it doesn't melt. Lush sells little tins that are handy for this purpose. I wouldn't advise using this product on the face as it is very oily so it's best kept for use on the body. Design and Price This massage bar is carved into the shape of a delicate heart and it is pale white in colour and very smooth in texture. One side is completely flat and this is the side that I smooth onto my skin, while the other side is the curved heart. It looks shiny and iridescent especially when held under the light. You will be looking to pay around £4 for 30 grams of the product and it can be bought from your local Lush store or from its online website. My thoughts The size of this massage bar is perfect for me and it fits easily into my hand. The shape of the heart allows me to grip the product probably when I am using it which is handy as the product can get a little bit slippery as it starts to melt. The product really softens my skin and although it leaves it feeling greasy initially, the feeling subsides once the oil has been fully absorbed, which doesn't take too long. It leaves my skin feeling seriously smooth and it is great at moisturising the dry skin on my legs. The glitter within the bar makes this product very occasionally a little rough on the skin but it doesn't make that much different to the texture. The shimmering bits are pink and gold and as they are so tiny, they just leave a bronzed and illuminating shine on the skin but it still makes this product unsuitable for day wear in my opinion. I only ever use this on a night out with the girls and although it isn't entirely classy, I am a glitteraholic so it suits me just fine. I find that once the oiliness has dried, the shimmer particles don't hang around for that long anyway. I tend to keep it for the areas which will be seen such as my legs and arms and use a normal moisturiser everywhere else. I was worried the glitter would cause some itchiness or irritation but it hasn't. As for the aroma, it is very calming and soothing. I love the scent of vanilla and I can also detect Lavender strongly, which I am not such a fan of. The smell lingers on my skin for a little while after use but then it fades away which I don't mind as I don't like smelling herbal! I wish it had just been left as pure vanilla because glitter and lavender as an idea don't mix in my opinion. All in all, if you don't like glitter then there are plenty of other massage bars that you could try. This one is for the girls and women who love to shimmer and shine. It's best suited for special occasions due to the glitter and the size of the product. It leaves your skin soft and smooth, smells relaxing and coats your skin which a dazzling glow. One for the glitter fans and party animals!
At the same time as I bought an Iridescent Glitterbug from Lush, I also bought a Shimmy Shimmy bar, that being the other glitter bar in the massage bar range. One reason for buying both together was so that I would have two different glitter bars to compare. Another was so that I could get a free massage bar tin for buying two bars! As it turned out I decided to keep each bar in a separate tin, as though they just about fit into one together, they were touching and I didn't want the glitter to mix. I've got plenty of tins though so this wasn't a problem. Shimmy Shimmy appears to be slightly bigger than Iridescent Glitterbug, although this may be an illusion as it is shaped slightly differently. The bar resembles an abstract heart - in fact it is the same shape as the new Silk Stockings and Black Stockings body tints. It is smaller than other massage bars in the Lush range, though this is reflected in the lower than average price of £3.65. Shimmy Shimmy is pale creamy-gold in colour and smells just like American Cream conditioner, which is great as I absolutely love this scent! As well as glitter, active ingredients include clary sage, which is stimulating, sensuous and evocative, and lavender oil which is antiseptic, antibacterial and relaxing. The bulk of the bar is made up of cocoa butter, which keeps it together, allows it to melt and has a moisturising effect. The bar is suitable for vegans. Most of Lush's massage bars are designed as intensive moisturisers - you melt them between your hands and rub the oils onto your skin. Glitter bars are a bit different. They are designed, as the name suggests, to add glitter to your skin, making you sparkle on a night out. Shimmy Shimmy is meant to give your skin a subtle shine, and Lush suggest that it can be used to "light up pale wintery skin". To use this product, you just pick the bar up and smooth it across your skin - chest, arms, legs, wherever you want a bit of shine. I think I expected the bar to provide a subtle shimmer along the lines of Glow Lotion by Soap and Glory, however this wasn't the case. Instead, the bar did give some glittery sparkle to the skin. The glitter was a gold-green colour and quite small, leading to quite a subtle effect. If you've tried the Iridescent Glitterbug, it was a considerable contrast as the latter product has larger glitter particles that are blue. The Glitterbug seems to give a 'cool' look for the skin while Shimmy Shimmy gives a 'warm' look. I found that the glitter didn't irritate my skin and it lasted hours until I chose to wash it off. The glitter didn't fall off of its own accord, which is good, although I did find that it tended to attach itself to clothes and other materials which came in direct contact with my skin. This is only to be expected with glitter, though! The bar was moisturising, too. As an experiment, I applied moisturiser to only one leg before using the Shimmy Shimmy bar on both legs. Neither leg felt drier or more moisturised than the other, suggesting it's fine to forego moisturiser if you're planning on using this product. The bar isn't something you would use every day, so it would most likely last for ages. You don't tend to use much per application, either. I really liked the effect this product had on my skin and it's lovely to use on a night out. Personally I feel this one would be more appropriate for summer, as it could enhance or give the impression of a tan, while I prefer the Iridescent Glitterbug for winter to emphasise my pale skin. They are both lovely glitter bars though and I would suggest choosing the one you like best, goes with your outfit or reflects your look or personality. The only reason to avoid it is if you don't like glitter, which is pretty much common sense anyway - if you do, it's worth giving this bar a try.
Lush Shimmy Shimmy: This is a lovely product which my partner bought for me from Lush for my birthday. I have used it a few times now and I have been able to pick up some positives and some negatives from this product. First of all this is a massage bar which makes your skin shimmer and smell rather sweet. If I was to describe it in one word this would be girly! When I have used this I have just been in the bath and I tend to rub it on my chest, arms and legs. It can be rough at first but i you leave it in your hands for a minute before it starts to melt which is the part where you can begin to pamper yourself! The only bad point would be that the glitter gets everywhere! These would be sold for no more than £5 and I would not expect more because the bar is only small and it does not last long if you use it quite a lot! I love the shape the most as it is a love heart and is quite romantic. This makes your skin so smooth and soft after you have applied it. It is so wonderful I will definitely rate this five out of five! RECOMMENDED!
I'm quite a big fan of Lush's massage bars as it makes it a fun way of having your body moisturised and it is always nice to get your partner to give you a good massage or at least try! Lush are constantly refreshing their selection of massage bars although it isn't as frequent as their bath products. Like most of their products they have a selection of limited edition items which make frequent appearances during the year, mostly around special times of the year such as Valentines, Christmas etc. One item which made its launch was Shimmy Shimmy for Christmas 2002. It is packed full of incredibly fine iridescent glitter which is meant to make you sparkle from head to toe. As most of the frequent Lush users will know Shimmy Shimmy was that popular Lush made it permanent meaning you could sparkle all year round should you want to! Shimmy Shimmy is quite a small massage bar in comparison to others. It is heart shaped and milk white in colour but you can easily see the iridescent glitter throughout the bar giving it quite a flecked appearance. This cute massage bar has quite a complex scent made up of vanilla, clary sage and lavender which although makes this bar smell quite sweet (pretty similar to American Cream Conditioner) but is has a rather musky scent which is due to the clary sage. This lovely combination means at this massage bar is also great to be used as a solid perfume so it was more than one use! I have been using Shimmy Shimmy for what seems like forever and after mastering the art of using such a heavily glitter based massage bar I have found that its best not to massage your whole body with it, just massage the areas in which you want the glitter to show (i.e. arms). Also by using smaller applications you won't get flecks of glitter appearing on everything you touch! And just remember a little goes a long way with this massage bar so don't be too heavy handed with it! So as I have now mastered the sparing application Shimmy Shimmy provides you with an elegant coat of tiny flecks of glitter giving a sophisticated appearance rather than looking like you've been attacked with thousands of pots of glitter! Shimmy Shimmy has a smooth texture so when you use it the glitter doesn't give any scratchiness unlike Lush's Iridescent Glitterbug which will no doubt rip your arms (and anywhere else you have used it on) to pieces. Shimmy Shimmy doesn't just supply you with an elegant sheen but thanks to its base of cocoa butter and shea butter it provides your skin with nourishing qualities so your skin never feels dry. So for this one little massage bar you manage to get a glitter applicator, solid perfume and a body lotion all rolled into one. It may not be for everyday use due to the glitter but when/ if you do use it, it provides three great qualities which you can't find in any other massage bar. Shimmy Shimmy melts quite easily when it makes contact with your skin so do use it sparingly. Because it melts quickly it is also absorbed into your skin within a matter of seconds and you're certainly not left with an oily or sticky residue which some massage bars and body lotions can leave. I have found that if I use this bar on a night out my skin still feels and looks nourished till the next morning. Best of all is that the glitter is quickly removed by having a shower or bath so it won't stay with you for days which is great if you have work the next day! What Lush say:- "Shimmy shimmy into Lush for vanilla scented glowing skin. It's shaped like abstract heart and smells rather beautifully of vanilla and lavender, with a hint of herbal clary sage. The Shimmy Shimmy bar perfumes and softens your skin. However, those are two added bonuses. The real attraction is the way it makes your skin shine. The glitter in Shimmy Shimmy is very subtle, but ever so effective, giving your skin a pinky-bronze glow that lights up pale, wintery skin". Ingredients:- Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Pink Sparkles (Polyethylene terephthalate), Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Perfume, Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia), Clary Sage Oil (Salvia sclarea), Lavender Oil (Lavandula angustifolia), Benzoin Resinoid (Styrax tonkinensis pierre), *Linalool, Coumarin Price:- £3.65 (each bar is 30g).
I'm really not a fan of glitter but I LOVE the American Cream scent. So,when I got this in a hatbox recently,I was a bit confused as to how I felt towards it. It's cute, shaped like a little, squint heart. It looks lovely,a creamy white with glitter. If you smell it,you'll smell the American Cream scent - which is basically vanilla milkshake. So,I relented. I love the smell too much to let the glitter annoy me! I started rubbing this in as I would with any other Lush massage bar - only it didn't start to melt or transfer on to my skin. All it done was coat me in glitter,it didn't moisturise me or give me a nice massage like the rest. However, the scent transferred. Which is good. So,basically - you smell like a milkshake and get glittery! Which is fantastic if you like glitter, rubbish if you don't. So,if the glitter annoys you, stick to the American Cream perfume. If you want a massage, use another massage bar. If you want to be sparkly and scented, use this but you'll probably have to use moisturiser with it.
This is a subtle glitter massage bar, that looks great whenever you use it especially when you have a tan. This one leaves you with a great golden shimmery glow and skin smelling of vanilla and lavender. This is gorgeous and I use it far more than the iridescent glitterbug as the sparkles are not so in your face. This leaves my skin smooth and smelling yummy, I find it is a great base for perfume - especially a sweet one like the Honey I washed the kids solid perfume - as it seems to accentuate the smell and makes it last a bit longer. I really do like this bar so much so I have gone through about four of them so far!!! I always take it on holiday with me because it looks really, really great on tanned skin. If you are going away to catch some late summer sun then take one of these with you - it will make your tan look ten times better!
Ive tried many glittery creatures in the last few years looking for something easy & quick to apply that has a great effect and without doubt to date this shimmy shimmy bar is the best ive come across. This particular bar is gold sparkles with a faint hint of pink. It is a solid love heart shape made up of cocoa & Shea butter. According to the blurb in the Lush Mag its fabulous smell is a result of the combination of vanilla, clary sage and lavender oil I Originally bought this with the iridescent glitterbug to go on a girlie holiday to gran canaria. Both of these bars are fabulous for a bit of holiday glitter, though shimmy shimmy is my favorite. It looks great on tanned skin! Very easy to use, i used to put it on the bits of my body i wanted to sparkle after my shower. It looks especially great with black clothing As per the glitterbug it is easy to overdo it, especially when putting on in un-naturally lit hotel bathrooms. I would keep both the glitter bars in their yellow bags just so they don't glitter up everything in your toilet bag!
Glitter and the scent of Vanilla, Honey, Lavender, Strawberries and oranges = a girls best friend. Shimmy Shimmy is a massage bar made by Lush in the shape of a little lopsided heart. Small it may be but as soon as you rub it onto your arms or other body parts of which you want to shimmer and a burst of glitter settles on your skin. Giving you the desire to dance all night! Shimmy Shimmy shares the scent of some other Lush creations- American Cream Conditioner and Solid Perfume Flosty Gritter Bubble Bar Slice Twinkle Bath Ballistic (christmas special) This Glitterbug Massage bar looks amazing on tanned skin as it leaves a pinky-bronze tint to it, which is great for winter. It also softens skin. This product works well in winter when skin isn't at its best and of course its the season of the season of parties. Some people seem wary of using products like this because they imagine that the tiny iridescent sparkles will stay on their skin unless they wash them off. I found that this wasn't the case; the glitter came of very easily when i was in bed after use. Try this product once and you will fall in love with it!
About a year ago I was on a night out and noticed my friend was looking really glittery and it looked fab. I commented on it and she said it was a bar she had bought from Lush that you simply rub all over yourself and it covers you in glitter and that she'd actually had it on from the night before and hadn't been able to get it all off. I instantly wanted some as I thought would be great if it's long lasting like she said, and it really did look good on her. Off I trotted to Lush and saw they actually sold two of these glitter bars, one is this one; Shimmy Shimmy and the other is the Glitterbug. I, doing what I too often do when forced to make a difficult decision, bought both. This review however is obviously concentrating on the Shimmy Shimmy version (but you just know there's going to be a Glitterbug review somewhere along the line don't you!) The first thing I noticed when taking a whiff, was how sweet it smelled. I really loved the scent, which I think comes from the mixture of the cocoa butter and the vanilla absolute. It really does smell very sweet but in a nice way, if you like vanilla you will love this, and similarly if you like cocoa butter you will too. I asked the boyfriend what he thinks it smells of and he insists mint, there's no mint in it so I think perhaps he's just thinking of a sweet smelling spearmint sort of smell. Now the website, and various other reviews, state that it has pink glitter sparkles in it, although I have to say, that mine at the very least, as far as my eye can see has very find golden glittery sparkles in it. They aren't big particles; they are tiny which create the shimmering effect, rather than a glittery effect as such. The website does class it as "the pinky golden one" and say that it gives the skin a pinky-bronze glow, so perhaps I'm not going completely insane in thinking it's a gold shimmer! Shimmy Shimmy is classed as a massage bar so that is wear you will find it either on the website or in the shops, however, I personally (don't have a boyfriend willing to dish out massages) just use this as a tool for creating a shimmery look on my body. For this use there are really two ways you can use it. You can rub it all over for an all over shimmery glittery look or you can use this as essentially a 'highlighter' for the body. Want to look slimmer (stupid question I know)? Then apply this to places such as your collar bones, or in a sort of thin stripe down the centre of your legs/arms etc which will make which ever area look slimmer. Want to boost your assets (again stupid question I know)? Apply some of this to your cleavage and it will enhance it. Apply it where you want to draw attention to, and the bits you want forgotten will fade into the background. Or like I say, use it all over for full on shimmer that will catch the light as you move. To apply I simply rubbed the bar all over my body and it went on really smoothly, it didn't feel at all scratchy and it didn't drag my skin. I was left with gorgeously shimmery skin, that felt smooth and soft and also smelt delicious. I found that it was long lasting throughout the night it remained on my skin, although a certain amount does transfer so be prepared to have your boyfriends whinging at you "making them all glittery" (they love it really!) but although my friend said she had struggled to wash it off, I found that it came off really easily every time in the shower the next morning. Lush say; "The glitter in Shimmy Shimmy is oh so very subtle but ever so effective giving your skin a pinky-bronze glow that lights up pale, wintry skin". They are spot on about it being subtle but effective. The Glitterbug is much more 'glittery' whereas this is 'shimmery' - just as the names suggest! I haven't actually used this in the winter, but it would definitely help boost that pale, dull, skin that I know at least I get over here in the winter. I personally bought this just before holiday and used it whilst I was there so my experiences are based on that. On tanned skin, it really did look amazing, just adding a glow to my tan and really enhancing it. Not only did it look great on tanned skin but it was beneficial to use this product on it as it contains shea butter which contains vitamin E which helps prevent the harmful effects the sun can have on the skin and is also great for using to stop your sun tan peeling, and is great to treat sunburn too - perfect for holiday skin! Also shea butter is great for insect bites, and Shimmy Shimmy also includes lavender oil (don't worry it doesn't make the product smell bad - I can't normally stand lavender but this really just smells sweet) which is a mosquito repellent - both again excellent properties for something being used on holiday. Despite tanning deeply on holiday this year I didn't peel what so ever, even after coming home my tan simply faded instead of peeling off. Also noteable that despite staying in a hotel that was actually set in it's own jungle (hence lots of trees which usually equals lots of mosquito bites) I only got bitten once throughout the holiday and this bite subsided very quickly. So as I mentioned before, this is classed as a massage bar, and if you do have a willing partner (don't take that for granted!!) and if neither of you mind getting a bit glittery then this can be used to massage someone with. The inclusion of cocoa butter means it melts on contact with the skin and is a lot less messy than oil and would provide enough lubrication. The cocoa butter promotes feelings of relaxation and well being and actually boosts the immune system, the shea butter eases muscle fatigue, aches and tension, whilst clary sage is uplifting and can be used to ease nervous tension and depression and can bring long lasting inner tranquillity and lavender as you are most probably aware is hailed for its relaxation properties and has a calming effect that promotes a sense of stillness. With all these things combined it does sound perfect for massage so it is a multifunctional product. So, it makes you all lovely and shimmery, can boost your cleavage, thin down your body (Well at least it can trick the eye to think that), it smells gorgeous and it helps both summer and winter skin. Sounds pretty fantastic right? Well it doesn't end there, as with all Lush products, they are packed to the brim with natural products that have proven effects on the skin. This is no different, an amazing combination of cocoa butter, shea butter, vanilla absolute, clary sage oil and lavender oil, the positive effects it has on the skin are numerous. Cocoa butter is perhaps the most famous moisturiser; it is widely used, widely loved and hailed the "ultimate moisturiser" due to it being an excellent skin softener that actually performs a protective layer to hold moisture in the skin. It's widely renowned for helping stretch marks, although personally the jury is still out on that one, I'm not so sure anything can help stretch marks. It more realistically helps with skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis and is perfect for creating a barrier between sensitive skin and the environment. There is even some evidence that it could help prevent cancer because it contains CMP which inhibits the growth of cancerous cells and tumours. There is also some evidence that it may prevent heart disease and ease the symptoms of arthritis. Obviously I'm not a doctor and I can't claim this is a cure all but it's certainly nice to think that it MAY help those things as well as its other benefits. Shea butter contains vitamin A which makes it an excellent moisturiser which has accelerates the healing process in the skin. It helps in a whole variety of skin complaints such as; blemishes, wrinkles, eczema, dermatitis, sun burn, insect bites, allergies. All Lush products are natural but you can't get much more natural than shea butter which actually contains the same moisturisers as those produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin! It also contains vitamin E which is anti ageing, anti free radical (aids preventing the damaging effects of the sun and environment) and increases the blood supply to the skin. As far as I know the vanilla absolute is there just to give the product it's gorgeous scent, it is the most concentrated form of vanilla so it's often used in aroma based products like this. Clary Sage Oil relieves congested complexions, is regenerative, revitalizing and stimulating, yet balancing. Amongst the numerous benefits it offer is its remarkable cell regenerating properties which helps rejuvenate and strengthen the immune system. The Lavender oil doesn't really have many skin benefits other than its relaxing properties and it's use as a mosquito repellent. All in all this is a fantastic product. If you just want a massage bar I'd perhaps choose one without glitter, as you don't always want to look shimmery, but if you are buying this for the shimmery look then it really is fantastic. After using this several times you can't even tell it has been used. As it isn't a product you would use every day (I personally would use it on nights out etc) then I think this product will just last forever. At £3.25, this is affordable for all budgets and to be honest I really think it's a one off payment (unless you like to shimmer every day) so there really is no reason to not shimmer and sparkle the night away.
Us girls love a bit of glitter, whether we admit to it or not, and Lush have been quick to cash in on this. They have a huge range of glittery bath ballistics, with more still coming out at Christmas, and now they have a new, fabby glittery product. Lushs Glitterbugs are a range of little bars of solid moisturiser with different coloured glitter through. Fantastic both for partying and keeping skin silky soft and smooth, they are yet another fantabulous and innovative Lush products. Described as a massage bar, which it really isnt in the traditional sense, heres the deal on the Shimmy Shimmy Glitterbug Ingredients Cocoa butter, pink glitter, Shea butter, perfume, vanilla absolute, clary sage oil, lavender oil, benzoic resinoid. As usual for Lush, this glitterbug is low on artificial ingredients. The cocoa butter and shea butter are there for moisturising, and of course the glitter there to make you shine! The resin would probably be used to bind the item together, and the vanilla, clary sage and lavender give the bug its sweet scent. What it looks like Shimmy Shimmy Glitterbug is a little 30g lump shaped as a lop-sided white heart shaped soap. You can see the lovely pink sparkly stuff all through it. Its all very cute and girly! The scent Shimmy Shimmy has a gorgeous delicate scent that is sweet and fruity with just a hint of floral tones to it. The vanilla is the strongest scent, and Im addicted to this stuff as Im a huge fan of the smell of vanilla. The smell is detectable but subtle on the skin, its nice and sweet but not too overpowering. If you are wearing it out and about (and lets face it you will be unless your boss can tolerate mass amounts of glitter in the workplace), you might want to consider applying it fairly lightly if your wearing perfume, you wouldnt want to clash! However, you might find that Shimmy Shimmy goes quite well with sweet, fruity smelling perfumes, and anything that smells slightly of vanilla or coconut. Applying it Basically you glide the dry Glitterbug over your arms, cleavage and anywhere else you want glitter! You might consider avoiding your face as the moisturising elements in the Glitterbug are probably a bit heavy for your facial skin. It feels lovely to apply, the bug glides smoothly over your skin and leaves it feeling silky soft and wonderfully glittery! Wearing it One problem with Shimmy Shimmy is that the glitter sticks to your skin forever. Use it once and you will still be finding glitter on your arms six or seven baths later. Some people love this, but your boss might wonder why you are wearing pink glitter all over your arms when you go into work! The glitter might also attach itself to your clothes, your friends or your boyfriend the latter tend to get rather upset when their manly arms are covered in pink glitter. Just tell them its a little reminder of you. Aside from this, Shimmy Shimmy is great to wear. The glitter is fairly subtle and not too over the top unless you use up a whole bar on yourself, and better still, it makes your skin as soft as silk for the entire evening. Bonus! The price At £2.90 for 30grams, Shimmy Shimmy is one of Lushs more reasonable products. Unless you want to be a glitter fiend every day of your life, the product will last you ages. In fact the chances are it will go out of date before you use it all up, so get Shimmying! All in all Shimmy Shimmy is a fantastic fun item for girlies (or girly boys!) Unlike a lot of Lush stuff its really good value for money, and as far as Im concerned we all need a bit of glitter in our lives!
