Lush Slammer Shower Gel
Advantages: Lovely scent, wakes you up, non-drying
Disadvantages: None for me
I bought some items from Lush online recently (a familiar beginning to many of my reviews!) and one of them was the Slammer shower gel. This product is described by Lush as a "shower gel and hangover rescue" which certainly appealed!
***What is Lush?***
Lush is a store that makes toiletries and cosmetics, using natural and organic ingredients where possible and minimising packaging where they can. It started out as a mail order company called Cosmetics to Go, but this failed and the new store, Lush, opened in Poole, Dorset. Later branches of the shop opened in London and beyond, and there are now Lush stores all over the world. As well as in store, you can also buy products from the website, www.lush.co.uk. There are similar websites for many different countries including the USA, Japan and Germany.
Lush buy ingredients only from companies that do not test on animals. All of their products are suitable for vegetarians and many are suitable for vegans.
Lush say: "We believe in happy people making happy soap, putting our faces on our products and making our mums proud.
"We believe in long candlelit baths, sharing showers, massage, filling the world with perfume and in the right to make mistakes, lose everything and start again."
***What is Retro?***
The Retro range is only available online or via mail order, as it is made up of products that have been discontinued from stores, but were deemed popular enough not to be discontinued completely. Retro products are often more expensive than the normal range of products, as they are made in smaller quantities, but there is some interesting stuff to be found among the products!
***Slammer shower gel***
Like a tequila slammer, this shower gel contains salt, lemons and limes designed to stimulate and wake you up in the morning. A combination of lime juice, lime oil and lime peel decoction help to refresh and cleanse. It is designed for those days when you've had a little too much to drink, or simply feel tired and want a boost.
I decided to take it on holiday with me, as I was going to Portugal and wanted something to help wake me up if I'd had a little too much to drink. I had the 100g bottle which was perfect for this purpose - this cost £4.20, while the larger 500g bottle cost £11.45. The larger one is better value, but I prefer the smaller bottles to test and see if I like the product first!
The shower gel comes in a clear plastic bottle which allows you to see how much you have left. Like other products in the Retro range, it has a white lid and a white label. The gel is a kind of burnt orange colour, and it smells lovely - very sharp and citrusy, refreshing and reviving. It does smell a little like a tequila slammer, but it doesn't make me feel queasy the morning after drinking too much - I'm sure real tequila would! Quite the opposite in fact - it helps to clear my head and make me feel a bit better.
The gel is of a medium consistency: not too runny and not too thick. Though Lush shower gels are expensive, I find them better value for money than the price would suggest, as I only need to use a very small amount at a time. I always use a shower puff to wash with and find that this helps the gel to lather up. The smell lasts well in the shower, though it doesn't particularly last a long time on the skin. This isn't a problem for me however, as I always use scented moisturiser after showering. Though the gel doesn't actually moisturise my skin, it doesn't dry it out either.
As mentioned above, this shower gel really helps to wake me up and clear my head when I'm feeling a bit groggy and/or have had a little too much to drink. It's lasted me ages for this reason, as since returning from Portugal I haven't used it very often - I've kept it for emergencies!
I definitely recommend this shower gel - perhaps it would make a good gift for students! It's fairly unique and probably one of my favourite Lush shower gels. Lovely!
