Advantages: smells delightful, versatile product, smells wonderful and the smell
Disadvantages: seasonal product
I was quite surprised when I got my gift, it was the Lush Snow Fairy gift set which was bought because as the note said - I am a bit of a Lush fanatic and I love the colour pink. How right that person was and how excited I was to receive the gift. Secret Santa's are usually a challenge to see who can find the wittiest and most sarcastic present to raise a few giggles and sniggers. Not this year, I almost squealed with delight.
One of my favourite Lush products ever is the Snow Fairy shower gel. I do also like the other two box contents which are the godmother soap which smells very similar to this shower gel and the iridescent Glitterbug massage bar.
This shower gel, like all Lush shower gels is sold in a clear plastic bottle with an easy to use black flip top lid which can be found on almost all of the shower gels. Surrounding this bottle is the easy to recognise black Lush Label which clearly denotes you have purchased 'Snow Fairy'' along with the Lush logo.
The shower gel inside the bottle is a bright candy pink colour and once you squeeze a little out onto the palm on your hand you can instantly recognise the sweet candy scent which has to be one of the sweetest things you will ever smell but in a nice way, it isn't overpowering like a vanilla scented product is, instead this shower gel is so sweet it reminds me of candy canes which you hang on your Christmas tree, only I suspect if you tried to taste it, it wouldn't taste as good. Also within this product are little pieces of glitter which sparkle in the light and is perfect for Christmas. When using this shower gel you will need to squeeze the bottle quite hard at first to produce a small blob like portion on the palm of your hand and the gel is quite thick in texture so you wont need as much as you would normally.
As with a lot of Lush shower gels, for me because the texture of these shower gels is quite thick you actually don't need to use very much at all because a little seems to cover quite a lot of the body so for that reason I am always happy to spend a little more, well that and the fact my husband doesn't like them means there is more for me. This shower gel also lathers really well within the shower and creates quite a few bubbles. Once I finished using the shower gel on my body only, I simply rinsed it off as I would usually do and got out of the shower. The sweet smell that I mentioned smelling was still really noticeable and definitely evident on my skin and I could literally smell it for the rest of the day, even when it did fade.
So what is contained within 'Snow Fairy'' to make the lovely sweet candy smell? Well for once there is not a long list of essential oils and ingredients to sit and work out what they mean for the skin and how they smell. Instead there is a very limited amount of ingredients to talk about. Like most shower gels there is an ingredient called Titanium Dioxide which helps shower gels and soap to create the lather and bubbles that we need to help clean our bodies. Benzyl Benzoate creates part of the sweet candy smell which I described easier within this review. However what the actual ingredient is that creates that smell is one which Lush is going to keep a secret. So all I can tell you is that it smells absolutely fantastic.
After my shower my skin was very soft and moisturised and the sweet candy scent was to me really nice and I could still smell it on my skin in the evening, after being at work all day. Also, rather than using it as just a shower gel, I have to admit that I have used it as bubble bath, when I've come home from work and am so tired all I want is a long hot soak and I really cannot be bothered to have a shower, using this shower gel as a bubble bath substitute works really well, lots of bubbles are created and the smell lingers throughout the house much better than when I use it in the shower.
So would I recommend this product? I absolutely would, as I said I am not someone who gets excited about Shower Gels but for me this is something I am glad I did buy, even if I did forget about it and it is something I will definitely buy again. It retails from Lush in three different sizes and naturally three different prices. The bottle I was given was the 100ml bottle which is the standard size within gift packages such as the one I received and that would retail at almost £3. There are much bigger bottles which I would buy usually to last me through the year and they come in a 250ml size which would cost £5.82 and a 500ml bottle which would cost £9.74 and when I first bought a 500ml bottle I did think the cost was very steep and almost put it back on the shelf, but what I did find is that because I don't use this shower gel everyday it does last a long time, it doesn't go off or go crusty round the edges, if it is kept cool and in a dark place it can last almost a year, which my bottle did and for me that is definitely worth its money, but if you just want a little treat then the smaller two bottles would probably suffice.
As I have said this is one of my absolute favourite Lush products which would definitely be found within my top 5 if I ever wrote a review about my favourite top ten Lush products and if you haven't tried it, sadly you might have missed it for this year because it is only ever available at Christmas time.
Summary: Lush Snow Fairy - it smells fab
